Given the structural integrity of Delrin you can refined your design to reduce excess weight in the lower so long as you have ribs to carry the weight of the entire system.
The threads of the upper were designed for Aluminium and I strongly advise against directly transfering them to plastic without modification. Bushmaster has had numerous problems with their "carbon 15" cracking.
That being said, there's nothing preventing you from developing a matching plastic "monolithic" upper.
@redram355 The weight savings wasn't as great as I'd imagined it would be. The aluminum lower is pretty light as it is. This gun still has a lot of metal in the upper (begging for a plastic upper.... I know...), the barrel, and the buffer tube.
I don't plan to market these lowers. I don't have an FFL07 and I like having a unique lower.

A plastic lower and no gas equipment...that thing is probably as light as a pistol.
Are you planning to market the aluminum version?
