play on brotha. you got the riddim. i know i'm not one to talk cause i'm just a beginner, but all these mofos that are hating don't know shit about music. they may be able to play some bad ass djembe, but they don't know the first thing about being a TRUE musician. they think "inside the box". the guitar wasn't intended to wail and sceam. it all just happened, and music wouldn't be where it is today if we didn't innovate our sound. even without that being said, that was real reggae to me!
Who cares!? If everyone played by the "rules", where would music be today? We'd still be singing Gregorian chants. Music is a listening art. If it sounds good, play it.
To larsonhicks: great feel, great musicality. Keep it up.
thank you for putting that out there. music IS ART, and art is creating. not staying within the confines of what has already been done.. and this guy played some good reggae riddims..
GREAT playing!! Love reggae beats!! I just brought a djembe and am learning to play off YouTube lessons :) I have a lot of friends who play..such an awesome instrument!!
Hey man - I wish I could help, but I wouldn't know where to start with step-by-step instructions. I'd just listen and watch carefully w/your drum in hand and figure it out. In my experience drumming is a lot more about "feel" than other instruments. I learn a lot from tabs for guitar, etc., but I've never found instructions for drums very helpful. Sorry!!
Awesome! Maybe I'll post some beats I used to play a lot in drum circles. I can imagine a beat like this getting really ugly in a drum circle. Not a strong enough driving bass beat.
Thanks! Let's see - I bought a 14 inch Remo djembe my sophomore year in highschool (1998). I played pretty regularly in bands, drum circles, etc. up through roughly 2006. Haven't played seriously in a while now. People call me to jam every now and then, but mostly my drums collect dust.
good touch dude!

this isn't a djembe rythm.
This is a reggae groove for drums...not percussions.

Actually my other djembe video has more of that kind of stuff.

I'll check it out :)
and you're right, I think most drum circles prefer a more present bass.
