Would it be possible for you to do a knife care and sharpening tutorial? I bought a rather expensive knife for Christmas. It keeps getting kinks in it after I resharpen the blade using a whetstone. I'm trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong. Most appreciated. :o)
Excellent video. Learned a couple tricks. Rolling the basil, genius. That one I am using tomorrow. And the Roma tomatoes. Smart like it. And lastly the seeds out.
@Jairzinho121 And since this is grilling, I guess the seed dont matter. But ChefTips is right, you need to make room for the marination, although the best way is probably save the juice and mix that with the balsamic vinegar.
Just made the marinade, sliced the romas and patiently waiting out the hour...maybe I'll let them soak for 2. Can't wait to taste the results...will follow up a little later this evening. Planing on grilling up some burgers this evening with the grilled tomato and some mozzarella just like in your video...Yummmm!! Stay tuned! :-)
Love tomatoes...and this looks great. The dog quick edit made me laugh...great job. Three questions: Why do you seed them? Why does it flare up? Could you do these on a panini grill indoors? Thanks again for a yummy well done video!
Hello. I seed them to make room for the marinade. The tomatoes flare up because of the marinade hitting the flames below. You could do these on an indoor grill. Most indoor grills do not have an open flame. That means you will not have an indoor flare up. =]
I like your use suggestions...although, could make a meal just on the tomatoes...with a sprinkle of cheese. Do you think they would work well on a pizza? Do you have recipes for grilling eggplant? Oh, and I love the camera pan to your dog wagging her/his tail. Made me lol. =D Great video!
I just harvested some Cherokee Purple Heirloom tomatoes. I tasted one for the first time..and thought of this video..I stopped by againto watch it. OMG this would be AWESOME with those! They are pretty meaty.
Gah! Chef Jason can you make more videos more frequently? I was dying for another video after I saw your Breakfast Sandwich (Which was AWESOME, yeah i tried it :) ) ..... I understand if your busy with other stuff though :(
@123matt567 Thanks for the comment. Yes, we are going to make more of an effort to get more videos up. We're almost done with the repairs to our house following the fire last summer, so hopefully that won't be hanging over our heads anymore. Thanks! Jason
hahahahaa that "thanks for tubing in" at the end always amuses me. great vids Jason! :D God bless you for sharing these wonderful recipes and showing us how to cook!
Hard for me to think about grilling tomatoes without grilling some onions and sweet peppers too. The marinade seems substantial enough for onions and peppers. Got me thinking of a grilled salad with fresh buffalo mozarella. Most excellent Chef!
Tomatoes are my favorite food. I like them all sorts of ways. I think these grilled ones would be perfect with Eggs Benedict, but they are pretty much an all purpose food.
Looks like all the olive oil went up in flames. Also looks you made about 10X more marinade than needed. What happened to all that excess? I think I'd skip the extra virgin olive oil before grilling.
Yeah, that's why I tell people not to worry about the flames. They flames go out quite fast. You could freeze the excess marinade for a future use. It is a cup and would work on 4 to 6 halved tomatoes.
I love your postiive attitude. Those tomatoes look divine. What's NOT to love? Good tip to pack them compactly in the marinade. Don't worry about the backgournd "wood-cutting." I couldn't even really hear it. One of these days I will get a grill. Thanks for another good video.
Had grilled peppersteak with fried paperika, fried onions and friend mushrooms all under an astonishing red wine sauce. Marvelous! I really should use grilled tomatoes next time :D
Great recipe! I love tomatoes on the grill. They are extra good smoked on a plank also.

squeeze out the seeds? u idiot! That is the best part of a grilled tomato.

Really? That's news to me.
It's best to remove the seeds/pulp to make room for the marinade.

@ChefTips i agree and the seeds are kinda bitter too arnt they?

@Jairzinho121 you idiot. Professional restaurant always takes out the seed because of the texture and such
