  • Great recipe! I love tomatoes on the grill. They are extra good smoked on a plank also.

  • Would it be possible for you to do a knife care and sharpening tutorial? I bought a rather expensive knife for Christmas. It keeps getting kinks in it after I resharpen the blade using a whetstone. I'm trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong. Most appreciated. :o)

  • @aquia80 I do have these videos up. Check my sharpening stone and knife steel vids.

  • Excellent video. Learned a couple tricks. Rolling the basil, genius. That one I am using tomorrow. And the Roma tomatoes. Smart like it. And lastly the seeds out.

    Thanks so much.

  • squeeze out the seeds? u idiot! That is the best part of a grilled tomato.

  • @Jairzinho121

    Really? That's news to me.

It's best to remove the seeds/pulp to make room for the marinade.

  • @ChefTips i agree and the seeds are kinda bitter too arnt they?

  • @Jairzinho121 you idiot. Professional restaurant always takes out the seed because of the texture and such

  • @Jairzinho121 And since this is grilling, I guess the seed dont matter. But ChefTips is right, you need to make room for the marination, although the best way is probably save the juice and mix that with the balsamic vinegar.

  • @Jairzinho121 everyone have different style of cooking , don't be mean .

  • I am so hungry after watching this!!! Grilled tomatoes are one of my favorite things in the summer! Yum!! Keep up the delicious work, Chef!

  • How would you make these without an outdoor grill? Grillpan? Oven?

  • @arahneaqua

Hello. Try putting them in a saute pan over med/high heat and let them cook through.

    Cheers!

  • Just made the marinade, sliced the romas and patiently waiting out the hour...maybe I'll let them soak for 2. Can't wait to taste the results...will follow up a little later this evening. Planing on grilling up some burgers this evening with the grilled tomato and some mozzarella just like in your video...Yummmm!! Stay tuned! :-)

  • Dude, so helpful!

    love the dog!

  • @janellestrickler Thanks! Enjoy!

  • What is kosher salt?

    Great vids;)

  • @cowloverification

It is a course salt with a better flavor than table salt.

  • @ChefTips oh thanks:)

  • this seams so sophisticated even though it is such a simple recipe! made to impress ;) I will most certainly user this recipe

  • @1missbittersweet Hope you enjoy it!

  • Love tomatoes...and this looks great. The dog quick edit made me laugh...great job. Three questions: Why do you seed them? Why does it flare up? Could you do these on a panini grill indoors? Thanks again for a yummy well done video!

    cheers

    dave m

  • @calbear1313

Hello. I seed them to make room for the marinade. The tomatoes flare up because of the marinade hitting the flames below. You could do these on an indoor grill. Most indoor grills do not have an open flame. That means you will not have an indoor flare up. =]

    Cheers!

  • I like your use suggestions...although, could make a meal just on the tomatoes...with a sprinkle of cheese. Do you think they would work well on a pizza? Do you have recipes for grilling eggplant? Oh, and I love the camera pan to your dog wagging her/his tail. Made me lol. =D Great video!

  • @TruthSeeker1054

Oh yes! You could definitely hit these tomatoes with some cheese!

Grilling eggplant is pretty easy. Just drizzle with some olive oil. Sprinkle with s&p and some fresh chopped herbs.

    Cheers!

  • I just harvested some Cherokee Purple Heirloom tomatoes. I tasted one for the first time..and thought of this video..I stopped by againto watch it. OMG this would be AWESOME with those! They are pretty meaty.

  • @gardenvespers777 They sound delicious!

  • Puppy at 2:30

  • @123matt567 Thanks for the comment. Yes, we are going to make more of an effort to get more videos up. We're almost done with the repairs to our house following the fire last summer, so hopefully that won't be hanging over our heads anymore. Thanks! Jason

  • @Lexii4Teen

    Thank you! :D

  • Why do you squeeze out the seeds?

  • @tora604

Hi. Basically so that the marinade can sit in that space where the seeds were.

  • can you make a chicken under a brick vid?

  • @JamesD567

    Thanks for the idea!

    Cheers!

  • I wish I saw this before my grilling today!

But that's my favorite salad marinade :)

I know, but my general life gets in the way... =]

  • you're so cool jason, you should upload videos more often :D

  • @Hi3ronymus

    Thanks for the compliment!

  • Hard for me to think about grilling tomatoes without grilling some onions and sweet peppers too. The marinade seems substantial enough for onions and peppers. Got me thinking of a grilled salad with fresh buffalo mozarella. Most excellent Chef!

  • Who the hell disliked this video, if I see him, I will personally give beating of his lifetime.

  • @CJ2GAME

Thanks for having my back LOL! =]

  • wow! i wish i could have that huge grill at home!!! yummy!!!

  • Pls more vids not 1, per month

  • yum

  • Thanks for the tip Chef Jason!!

  • Im thinkin maybe use these as a primary ingrediant in a salsa than apply to a fajita ...perhaps just crazy enough to work.

  • Tomatoes are my favorite food. I like them all sorts of ways. I think these grilled ones would be perfect with Eggs Benedict, but they are pretty much an all purpose food.

  • @DarkstepGaming

Thanks! =D Will be working on more. It's been a long year trying to recover from house being rebuilt.

  • Thumbs up if you feel its not a Cheftips video with out the Garlic Shallot Puree.

  • @eyesofnova

    Ha ha! =]

  • does the balsamic sweeten up a little when grilling them? or does it retain its vinegar-y taste?

  • @ando1135

Hello. A nice balsamic will be a little sweet on it's own.

  • Looks like all the olive oil went up in flames. Also looks you made about 10X more marinade than needed. What happened to all that excess? I think I'd skip the extra virgin olive oil before grilling.

  • @vanscoyoc

Yeah, that's why I tell people not to worry about the flames. They flames go out quite fast. You could freeze the excess marinade for a future use. It is a cup and would work on 4 to 6 halved tomatoes.

  • What about that vicious Dog? Looks like he rules the Roost!!

  • @BH206L3

Ha ha! It's a she and most shes rule the Roost! =]

  • So chef.. about that dog.. did she roast up also? Just kidding nice recipe. Nice to see you and your dog again after your house was torched.

  • @Scootermagoo

  • @ChipNick87

    Thank you!

  • I love your postiive attitude. Those tomatoes look divine. What's NOT to love? Good tip to pack them compactly in the marinade. Don't worry about the backgournd "wood-cutting." I couldn't even really hear it. One of these days I will get a grill. Thanks for another good video.

  • @ckrtom2

Hope you get your grill soon! Thanks for commenting!

  • Grilled Tomatoes are the best, sauteed are also very good. Def need to try that marinade...

  • @FloridaCarClubcom

Thanks! It's a Costco grill that I bought a little over 4 years ago.
