@Haeronthegreat The horns achieve an extremely high standard in other, more important categories/aspects of performing this piece. (keeping pace with the rest of the orchestra in terms of emotional tone, energy level, emotional progression/continuity) The darker horn sound is replaced brilliantly by a beautiful horn sound with slightly muted emotions/expressiveness. (a fascinating alternative to your ideal horn sound)
@krby2821 They're using Viennese oboes. It's one of the quirks of the Vienna Phil. Oboes, horns and clarinets are different than any other orchestra in the world.

This man really doesn't understand Sibelius; nor does he do what's written in the score. The Karajan and Vänskä versions for me!

Great piece, I love this interpretation. Check out 2:00, Bernstein makes such a funny smile, I could not help laughing.

Vienna horns are the wrong sound for this music. Needs more darkness.

Always one of my favorite symphonies, but I never heard it performed so incredibly spectacular. Bernstein always works magic on whatever he does.
