This is an early recording done before the 1968 master (that was rehashed with orchestra and choir by Phil Spector for release on Let It Be). The song was being considered to go on a single with Lennon's "Hey Bulldog" and Harrison's "The Inner Light" (but McCartney's "Lady Madonna" went on instead). They basically didn't know what to do with the song and shelved it until Phil Spector butchered it. This was an experiment, and I think it's the best version by far.
Don't know where it came from but it's been my favorite version of my favorite Beatles song since it mysteriously appeared in my hard drive. It'd be interesting if it's not legitimate.
Also, people, this NOT the anthology 2, naked or past masters (wildlife) version. All these sound nothing alike (some are sped up/altered key signatures. dubbed, etc) so it's really hard to tell where it came from. Trying to know for sure where this came from has always been a mystery for me :/
The basic track is the version from the WWF record 'No one's gonna change our world', And then there's the intro ,'Great Richie', and all the backwards stuff I don't know why you put on, cause if it's a bootleg you've been really fooled.

@Vjean567 I think that "GamerErman2001" likes this song... who wouldn't... I know you do. What a special song from a special band. Life is good... lol... hahahahahhah
That's Yoko singing backing vocals during the choruses. Sadly, that instantly degrades a wonderul song. Like nails on a freakin' chalkboard. No wonder this version didn't make it on the original album.
@MrAndrewjs The Beatles (British) did this on their own music without any help from any Musicians & Song Writers. The Monkees (American Beatles) had help from other Song Writers & Musicians. Who is better?
they actually tried to communicate with other life forms by blasting this song into space via satellite transmitters. its a beatiful song and it inspired many to follow.
Aside from the fact that the Beatles only used LSD between Revolver and Pepper's and all but John had sworn off drugs all together by the time they went to India to visit the Maharishi. This song was recorded during the White Album sessions, where only marijuana was being used. Think of most of the most famous stuff from the latter half of their career- Revolution, Hey Jude, Let it Be, Blackbird, Come Together, Here Comes the Sun etc. Yes, that all reeks of acid doesn't it?
Wow. The studio effects kind of remind me of Tomorrow Never Knows. Awesome version of this. Much better than the "wall of sound" version off Let it Be. I still like the raw John-and-his-guitar version best though.
i didnt know what it was like to cry over music until the beatles entered my life... the first time i heard many of their songs, i started sobbing. love them so much...
Actually this version was recorded after the master take you find at Let it Be Albums (Naked and the 1970 one)... This version was even better... I wonder why they didn't include it as the official song...
They ran outside and asked a couple girls (of the many the Apple Scruffs) to come in and sing the high parts, then thanked them, and let them out. This was an oldie by the time it was included in the "Break Up Movie" Let It Be.
Needs bass :)

I totally agree. It's like she inhaled helium before trying to sing. I am SO glad they got rid of her singing in the final cut.

i liked their early stuff better before they started getting all trippy hippy and major LSD and stuff.
yourgirlll 2 years ago
@yourgirlll the old stuff was more energetic and rockish i guess, but their psychedelic stuff speaks of the enlightenment they received from LSD

LSD was not the source of their psychedelic influence. Know the difference between correlation and causality, thank you.
