  • @timaahh of course

  • Does anyone know if someone with astma can still play the sax?

  • so cool!!

  • Dude. Really. This sucks. I agree with those 37 people who hate it. I can play better than you and I am younger than you. You should remember from school. Don't puff your cheeks. F-

  • te felicito dominas muy bien el saxo tenor. Solo te recomendaria que no inflaras los "cachetes", hasta donde yo se, esto te ayuda a mantener mas el aire en un sopilido largo.

te escribe tenorista principiante :) exitos!!!

  • i love tenor i play it i've watched like 10 of these solos

  • Anyone know what horn he's using?

  • @jaimelespoptarts

That's a Conn 10m "artist" model. I'd guess made around the late 40's. Looks like an Otto link mpc *7ish and sounds like a fairly stiff reed of the Vandoren variety. But that's just a guess.

  • @cheloso1 Thanks! :)

  • Blow, Xavier!

  • thats a bundy saxophone i think

  • Never puff out ur chrecks!!!

  • @urbanninja0 I agree

  • wilę charlez'a 360

  • NICE!

  • porque infla los cachetes??? tiene una mala tecnica.

  • @guillo725 Respiração Circular, eu acho ! ;-)

  • Hy dont now how to play sax -.- he is stuped i am playing sax 1.5 year and i am better i have 134 medals and 15 trophy :P PP

  • @PlinkiReport no. just no.

  • @BboyShoGun11 wtf ??

  • @PlinkiReport No, you are nowhere hear him. Your tone is in no way honed as much as his. If that's you playing halo on your channel, you are on your way...but you have a very long way to go before you reach this dude's caliber. Practicing your longtones would definitely get you much closer. And I speak for both of the saxophonests on your halo cover. And if you want to promote your accomplishments, do it somewhere else..not on someone else's video comment section.

  • @djkoyama1 dude are you stuped that is no me I will later to do thats clip :P

I most have some notes for cover :P

are you see his Baloon when he blows into the saxophone

And it seems to me that he do not already diaphragm breathing lungs

  • @PlinkiReport First of all...I only understood half of what you said there. If you are talking about his cheeks puffing out...that's not something I do, but I've seen Parker and Coltrane do that too. As far as your question...no, I'm not stupid. But since you felt the need to leave a douche-bag comment that was not constructive in any way, go ahead and show us how you can do better.

  • @PlinkiReport 1:learn how to at least WRITE in English. 2: i personally watched the upload of you playing tenor and alto sax, and you're about average for how long you've been playing, which is nowhere near as good as this man.

  • @weerdo27 Omg! I am 7 class i have 5 from English

and i am saing that i am not playing that clip its a man Charlez 360 :P

I will have 14 years for 2 mounth :P If willl i have notes for shit music than can i play but dont have notes d

  • Comment removed

  • @bskkid4eva xDDD :D Good good good dog !

  • @weerdo27 He's trolling you dude.

  • 1:04...FAIL?

  • @sHwoWMAstEr76 Its called improvisation, He didnt fail he improvised. Your walking and you trip but you dont fall you improvise and keep walking. says alot about you if your a musician

  • Das ist sooo toll und so entspannend :-)

  • Mafia 2 Sound :D

  • My grandpa played saxophone so I really love the sound :)

  • im in the mgms band and this is what im gunna playif u from mgms plz thumbs up or tell me on my channel!

  • 3:30 you really got into it! Love it! 3:50 and 4:40 you are one with the sax! Your softer notes are also definitely better at the end too!

  • Not sure about the reed choice for such a soft piece, but the breath control is great. Maybe taking deeper breaths would help with the clarity with the softer notes as well. All in all, good work!

  • Whats the matter Jared? Subway got you down?

  • Comment removed

  • Hi Is that an early conn 30m Conqueror?

  • nice

  • ale tak się nie nadyma policzków..

  • Is that saxophone a Martin Dick Stabile?

  • Awesome job. What mouthpiece are you using, it sounds awesome! :D

  • @987EL987 looks like a silver otto link of some sort

  • @gjbsaxman94 Or maybe a Berg

  • @gjbsaxman94 or maybe a Berg Larsen

  • Great tone!

  • exelent performance

  • Open your eyes dude.

  • @xApclyptcx why would he need to open his eyes? There's no music, there's nothing but a grey wall and a camera around him. The dude is playing with soul...with feeling. Lot's of professionals play with their eyes closed. I've played with a few jazz bands and anytime someone was improving, they had their eyes closed. It actually helps to hear the chord changes better and to keep the rhythm in your head.

  • @matrix86 Maybe he is merely pointing out the fact that there is no point in wearing glasses with your eyes closes.

  • Maybe the dude yust wakes up an puts its glasses evry day ad when he came to the studio i am sure he wont say hey wait aim going to close my eyes for plaing so plase hold them a sec ok camra man

  • @xApclyptcx hahahaha

  • Deja de hacer escalas por un segundo man!

  • what kind of mouthpiece is that? sounds great!

  • I love how so many players use metal mouthpeices... There awesome... Right sax players!

  • Sound Fantastic!

  • hes sick

  • wat een oude sax!!

  • great performance, really enjoyed listeniing!!

  • I love the way saxes project like a bass yet have the agility of a woodwind. Superb saxophone, you deserve the title Saxophonist.

  • Love the way he keeps his eyes shut through the entire thing.

  • I agree Sax4Him, the man has some beautiful sound..

  • is dave guardala MB II???

  • very musical stuff, thanks, my ears are glad..

  • i still think that the other guy was still good

  • You play really great! Your sound is somewhat similar to that of Coltrane! And I like the phrases you find. In addition sax tone works perfectly, and frankly I'm jealous because my tenor was damaged and repaired, but since it blocks evil: (

    thank you for this video!

  • There has to be something with the cheeks. I'm going to try it. Excelent playing!!!!

  • Delicious tone. End of story.

  • This guy is great! To everyone under here saying stop puffin ur cheeks, SHUT UP! You cant play better than him, and probably not better than me! ANYWAYS this guy is fantastic! He enjoys what he does! Thats how I wanna be

  • stop puffing your cheeks man

  • Comment removed

  • @dakodaav11 dizzy gillespie puffed his cheeks... why does it matter??

  • @bookworm18901 because if you puff your cheeks there is air sitting in there, it makes a larger passage for the air to travel through, which makes it less direct, require more energy and more air. it is a bad habit that any saxophonist is taught not to do

  • @dakodaav11 It really doesn't matter. If you're accustomed to playing that way and it works, then there's no reason to change it. True, saxophonists are taught not to when they start, but maybe he was never taught that way. And cheek puffing is a technique that links to circular breathing, so you have to get used to it sooner or later.

  • @dakodaav11 Also, idk if you didn't watch the full video or what, but he doesn't puff his cheeks the whole time.

  • my favorite tenor video

  • Wow man that's a tone worth dying for! Awesome phrasing and altissimo :)

  • Sounds great ! Nice phrasing :-)

  • Nice, man!

  • es dave guardala mouthpiece MB II ??? and sax keilwerth???

  • Simply beautiful tone, beautiful warmth, and incredible expression! Love It!!!

  • este tipo es ueno creedeme yo toco y no es facil animos man de nekko

  • WOW! Nice!

  • cool, aber die backen sind glaube ich zu sehr aufgeblasen...oder is das ne andere technik?

  • @InvalideNr666 Yeah, that's true. I actually play with a bari neck strap on my tenor. It gives me quite a bit more support than the ribbon neck straps I've used before.

  • Cool, though the bari sax shoulder strap leaves me with a question mark.

  • @Vitruvian42 If you take a bari sax shoulder strap your nake doesn't hurt that much if you have to play a long time, and if you have problems with your back it's also better to play with a bari sax shoulder strap

    =)

  • cheek puffer!!!!!!!!!

  • Not sure when you uploaded this video but stick with the horn man I think you will be surprised.Interesting blow man

  • for me ... sax is for slow music ... more for sensual music :)

  • Bravo Xavier. Buenísimo el solo.

  • im pretty sure thats an otto link mouth piece. correct me if im wrong.

  • what key is that?

  • I never understood why some saxophones have a gloss and some don't. Someone mind explaining it to me?

  • @Pelatovin

Its differences in the lacquer. Some older horns have had theirs taken off, some have had it wear off. Some people also buy new horns without lacquer to get that bare brass look.

There is some nonsense belief that lacquer affects tone...it doesnt

  • @alirzb I see. Thanks for replying~

  • @alirzb .... yeah that is very ignorant. Silver Plated laquers, Gold, thick and thing laquers LARGELY effect the tone of the instrument.

  • @genesis344...Im so glad you are so naive!! Do a little research my man. It is literally impossible to prove this. Scientifically, there is nothing you can say to support this aside from some crap about "overtones". By ear, you can't say that the finish makes a difference...If you take "X" number of horns, each with a different finish, even if they are the same make/model, they will all sound different regardless of the finish because no two horns are truly alike.

  • @alirzb Go pick up a Gold Plate Mk. VI and a de-laq'ed Mk. VI and play them and you will notice a difference. Softer metals and lacquers. Different metals make a huge difference as do pad resonators. The way things reflect sound. Some lacquers even bond differently and have a matte finish that doesn't reflect sound. Whether you notice it is the difference. Some people apply lacquer differently and that can even change the sound. Now, generally the closer to the mouth of the player variables are

  • @genesis344

    Keep on trucking, kid.

You got a lot to learn. Resonators??? Hahaha seriously?? A "huge" difference?? The two MK VI's would play differently because they are different horns. I have played horns before/after getting their lacquer stripped and they played virtually the same..any minor differences were because of the set-up the instrument recieved after the horn was reassembled.

If you're looking for put pretty colours and finishes on your horn to sound better, go hit the shed.

  • @alirzb Pretty? My instrument is gorgeous because of how it sounds. It looks beat to hell. It has a lot of character. And differences between horns, sure they are going to play differently. Why do you think the reference 54's play like junk compared to the old Mark VI's? It's the same horn, made with different metals. And different finishes than they used to.

  • @genesis344 Ref's don't "play like junk". Neither the 54's or 36's. They are distinctly different from each other tonally because they are built that way. And they sound different from the Mark VI because Selmer understands that if they made them sound the same, nobody would buy the Ref.

And if you think that the finish and "character", something completely intangible and something forever changing, make for a good sound from a horn you have a lot to learn, if only on a technical level.

  • @alirzb Nobody would buy the ref if it played and sounded virtually the same as a Mark VI? You're kidding right?

  • @genesis344

No. I think it would be spurned as an "imitation" or a "poor man's horn" because there is no way they would market it over $5000, because in a direct competition between the two who would buy the new horn over the legendary, storied Mark VI?? Nobody.

There will always be the stigma of "You're not serious unless you're playing a Mark VI". I don't agree with this at all, but there will always be that belief kicking around the jazz scene, unfortunately.

  • @alirzb There is a reason I play a Conn my friend. Mark VI's are great horns but they are overrated.

  • @genesis344

    I play a 10M and a 97xxx Mark Vi, both tenors.

I love my 10M, it is a great jazz horn but I wouldn't dare bring it out for anything classical. Also, the intonation on my Mark VI is better in the screamissimo register.

yeah, I payed more for my VI because it was a VI, but it's worth it - it's about the horn, man.

  • @alirzb You know what has an AWESOME control of the altissimo register, Yamaha Custom Z's. They are so bright though. It's almost upsetting. My Conn is my do all horn, I am looking for a matching alto and soprano soon!

  • @genesis344

Ya those things slot into the high tones like crazzyyy. I dig em. Hoping to add an unlacquered, w/out High-F# tenor to the stable as soon as is possible.

Very nice horns for old style jazz I found, when I played with my vintage links.

  • @alirzb the more difference it makes in the tone of the instrument. Different mouthpieces, ligatures, necks, and reeds are the big contributors to the change of a horns sound. The lacquer makes and minute difference as does the mix of the metals in the body of the horn its self.

  • @genesis344

I used to believe that finish made a difference. Then I started listening to the people that know, playing more horns and using my head.

  • @Pelatovin the saxophone sounds better without all the gloss on it, though it looks better. much like a studio version of a guitar. its MADE for the studio because it has a better sound (again without the gloss) but its not as pretty. its all about sound when you record, but in public its about sound AND look. no one wants to get stuck playing a nasty instrument no matter how it sounds(to some reasonable degree)

  • Seamus Blake sound

  • I love the solo- I just can't stand the strap...

  • PLAY STARWARS CANTINA!!!11!!!!!12121!!!!!!

  • toooo perfect for my beat

  • Great tone and wonderful feeling for the music you play. You are my inspiration.

  • You are right...its not the best embouchure. I try to take in more mpc with my upper lip...ala Coltrane and Felipe Lamoglia and tons of others. Check Felipe Lamoglia live on youtube. He hipped me to use the upper lip on the tenor embouchure. My cheeks puff out because I'm really trying to eliminate tension and relaxing. (dont want to pinch my reed!) WHen play rubato ballad stuff it will happen and when play uptempo lines they usually dont puff out. Thanks for the views and positive comments!

  • @goodfried27

All I'm saying, I have never came across a professional with an embouchure like his. Not the best way to play your sax.

  • all of your lower notes are extremely airy, might be because of your puffy cheeks and embouchure. also watch ur releases. otherwise great technique and expression

  • @binra777 the airy feel is an affect . its called subtone. hes trying to do that. it takes a lot of practice

  • i think if he stopped puffing out his cheeks a little, it would help his already great sound :)

  • BEAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • olha a buchecha inferno

  • Pardon my spelling. Yeah I know, I've been playing for 6 years, learned from my dad and he's been playing professionally for 36 years. Puffy cheeks tend to make for a flatter sound, and honestly I think his bottom lip not being curled is idiotic.

  • @skateit812

Xavier has a fantastic sound, so I wouldn't really suggest making comments like that. Saxophone is very personal, and regardless of what other people say, there is not a particular jazz embouchure.....just whatever works and gives the tone that contributes to the jazz language

  • Your aumature is odd.

  • Comment removed

  • @skateit812 embouchure? it isn't perfect (puffy cheeks), but even guys like boots randolph did this.

  • wish I had this sound. I must OBTAIN it! it will satisfy thee elders!

  • is that a flutter tongue that he uses at 3:47 to 3:48? or is that just him struggling for a high note?

  • @tycoon121

3:47...I opened up my throat while playing a altissimo note. Coltrane, Lovano, Potter, and Brecker do it all the time.

  • @xpjazz Hi Xavier.

First of all, wonderful, wonderful playing - and amazing tone!

I just got my first Conn '48 yesterday, and like it!

Since I'm looking for a mouthpiece for this new axe, would you please reveal which you ae playing in this video.. I love the sound!!

  • @xpjazz cool thx a lot man. =D think i might it sometime

  • Very nice performance, beautiful sound. What mouthpiece do you play? Is that an Otto Link Forida 8* (or higher)?

  • Very nice performance, beautiful sound. Is that an Otto Link Florida 8* (or higher) mouthpiece you play on?

  • Very nice performance, beautiful sound. Is that an Otto Link Florida 8 (or higher) mouthpiece you play on?

  • I already am :D

  • Man,huge sound,and fantastic playing.

    From one player to another.

    All the best

    Mario

  • O som e a execução estão perfeitos. Qual a marca e a boquilha desse instrumento?

  • I GOING TO PLAY THAT SAME INSTRUMENT FOR MUSIC CLASS

  • @YUNGZAY843 OH MY GOSH SO AM I!!!!

  • @YUNGZAY843 lol so am i

  • @YUNGZAY843 SO AM I!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I wish I could get a tenor sax, but as of right now I have other necesities that must be taken care of first before I can even think about devoting my time to somthing such as this....but someday...

  • it's entrancing...

  • perfect !

  • Sounding good, I have been playing the Tenor Sax for about 6 months and loving it, the tone is fantastic. I look forward to playing like this!

  • The tenor sax is so cool. It takes you places that you never imagined that you could go. Great tone !

  • This was my second day on the Conn 10M. I actually borrowed the horn for the video. Dexter, Sal Nistico and many many other players played Conn tenors. I have now purchased a 10m very very close to the serial # in the video. The mouthpiece is a metal Otto Link refaced by Norbert Stachel in NYC.

  • the mouthpiece is a Colletto.It's right

  • is tenor sax easy

  • @acgrs8 its easier than some instruments, but as long as ur devoted to practicing daily, you'l do fine. people get good at guitar fast cause its an easy instrument to practice cause u just pick it up and can play for hours a day, so if u play your sax half as much as a guitar player plays his guitar, ul do much better than most people. practice makes perfect!

  • @Sublemon7 haha to master the guitar its actually harder than most instruments. playing chords is easy, I say master, simply because of the form of play. speed on a sax is so much more than guitar, because of the mechanism. difference between them is a guitar is a chordal/accompanist/solo instrument, while the sax is a solo instrument, best suited to accompaniment by big band. I used to play sax, and Now i'm doing a bachelors degree with guitar.

  • struggles, very complex instrument.

  • @ashrafilm

    not really man

  • sound great xavi, what happened to your balanced? -k muncy

  • Xavier is playing a con 10m (naked lady) tenor. That horn contributes to the dark sound.

  • @joetighe No wonder why that horn looks so familiar...

  • @joetighe

Actually, I believe that is incorrect. The naked lady models had an underslung octave key. The necks are very different.

The model being played in the video is a Beuscher True Tone. In addition, Beuschers are known to have a very dark tone.

To see pictures of these saxes, visit "USAhorn.com"

  • @JH5251 My 1940 Naked Lady doesn't have the underslung octave key. I can get the serial number off my baby if you'd like to look it up.

  • @joetighe I can attest to this. I have a gorgeous 1940 Naked Lady Tenor.

  • Gooodd

  • Love the sound and phrasing. Thanks for recording this!

  • love the combination of Latin feeling and bop phrasing...

  • con que boquilla estas tocando
