Shouldn't the primary function of government be to obsolete the utility of government by virtue of a better solution to the same problems? Government is overhead. Our wealth in every sense (all other things being equal) is inversely proportional to our overhead. Indeed our constitution is a wall baring the growth of government in dangerous directions. I'm only saying we should have used shrink wrap. Defense isn't the penultimate goal either; without a competent electorate you can't trust gov.
Why doesn't Ron Paul look for a way to encourage the academic sector to create a site where people could acquire a deep understanding of our economy. Where they can see where the tax revenue comes from and how government uses it, and how that has changed over time and by what legislation. This is the kind of thing that will allow us to hold the other congress members to the standard Ron Paul sets for himself. Give us the transparency we need to find him more able peers.
This sort of discussion can only make us more partisan. The problem is that the electorate does not have to tools to understand the choices that face our leadership. Where is the web site that can reveal all of the cash flows through our economy so that we can see how tax revenues combine and are divided among various spending programs? Your first job as leaders is to ensure that the electorate can function as it was intended. This is a job you have utterly neglected since this nation started.

Radio and television ads are a large percentage of expenditures. Dr Paul does travel light but in no way is alone on the road. He has to cover most of the food, hotels, rental cars, limos, airline tickets, rent on certain venues, private security detail (the secret service doesn't cover you much unless you are a big whig). There are also paid staff members. They also have the option of throwing money at other candidates for their campaigns. It all adds up quick.

Well I'm a former democrat now Independent. In fact, i really don't believe in political parties anymore because theres more concetration on defeating the other party than doing was best for the USA.
If the Republicans ever do get back to their old principles, there is also a stereotype of Republicans being rich, white, and racist, and uncaring for the lower classes. I don't believe these things myself! But these are what hardcore democrats believe, especially minorities.

Radio and television ads are a large percentage of expenditures. Dr Paul does travel light but in no way is alone on the road. He has to cover most of the food, hotels, rental cars, limos, airline tickets, rent on certain venues, private security detail (the secret service doesn't cover you much unless you are a big whig). There are also paid staff members. They also have the option of throwing money at other candidates for their campaigns. It all adds up quick.

This is called the "guilty by association" argument. Don Black also contributed in 2000 for Bush and also demonstrated in Florida re. the electronic vote count issue for Bush, while Paul did not vote for Bush then.
