Yet, how come everyone likes and acknowledges them, yet they went down the drain?

They got tired of badly organized touring.

From what I hear, they got angry that their managers were all rolling in money, driving Ferraris, and leaving them to play with broken equipment and cutting their frills. Since they were still under contract to Metal Blade and their manager, they left.

I'm not against Metal Blade, they have some successful acts and seem to be okay as a label. But it's hard to forgive them for how they treated The Crown.
