@felicia7107 Well, I only wear my hip piece with a pareo, but I just pin it to my underwear, that way it's pinned down to both my pareo and underwear and won't move up my waist. Idk how you'd do it wearing a more skirt though 0.0 my tassel belt is sewn on to my more
Completely love this video and Corinne's technique, I am a former Hawaiian & Tahitian dancer, stopped dancing when I moved here to the U.S. from Mexico, do you know of any places or schools in NJ that offer classes to get back to do what I really love, it being Hawaiian and Tahitian dancing? Thank you.
@pikara85 I would check out Mele.com. You can also search under google "mele.com halaus" from there you should be able to see each halau/dance group worldwide. hope that helps. there's many listings so hope you'll find a group.
I was born in the U.S. Virgin Islands (I live in Massachusetts now) and I've completely fallen in love with Tahitian. I've been taking classes to improve my technique and now I'm so excited to be dancing for my fellow junior classmates next year and introduce them to Tahitian dancing. I think that it doesn't matter where you come from unless you're doing the thing that you love and in this case, Corinne does what she loves. :)
i went to tahiti too this past summer for the heiva....wasnt it effin amazing? shit its like a tahitian dancer's dream...preforming on that stage was unlike anything i've ever experienced.
it was. unless americans were asked to dance with a tahitian group. im pretty just this is just fareireiraa in toata. that took place RIGHT after heiva i tahiti
no. i dance with otea api and we were invited to dance with the tahitian group temaeva in the actualy heiva. the stage you see and everythin is what was used in heiva i tahiti. you could try looking up heikura nui, o tahiti e, tamariki poerani, te maeva to see the heiva. im not sure if any will show up because the video passes with really expensive to get shots and i still havent seen any videos or the heiva.
ooh, cool=) It's nice to see non-tahitians participating in the Heiva I Tahiti Nui^^ Yea, I'll do that^^ My favorite groups, besides Nonosina of Anaheim CA, and Urahutia pro. in Hawaii, are the famous ones from Tahiti; Les Grands Ballets Of Tahiti and O'TAHITI'E;)
les grands ballets are good. theyre more modern now and they arent a competing group. yeah theres alot of controversy with americans dancing in heiva i tahiti tho :/
yeahhh. it sucks! it was SOOO amazing dancing in the heiva tho. i cant even put into words what my experience was. even though its because "americans were in the group" it was still such an honor
y does it suck? I personally think the american groups are awesome and it is great that they were allowed to dance during the celebration. this group especially did GREAT. it should be an honor for tahitians to see others dance their traditional dances. kinda makes them have to step up their game!
i wasnt sayin this video sucks. i was replying to Gille87 we were having a convo. about controversy in tahiti against americans dancing in the heiva in tahitian groups cause american groups were not allowed to dance unless they were asked by a tahitian group. this video was not part of heiva i tahiti tho. this is fareireiraa which took place righ after the heiva.
i dont understand what the difference between american dancers and french dancers. french people arent tahitian and yet so many of them dance with out so much controversy..alot of americans currently live in tahiti too so wats the difference?
@ulam8889: true french arent tahitian, but Tahiti is part of France, so is not a problem for french people to dance in Heiva in Tahiti. Personaly its ridiculous NOT to let any foreigner to dance in Heiva Tahiti. It would be such an Honor for Tahiti
as a Tahitian/American I believe Tahiti has a right to do what they do. Here in the states there are so many Heiva's and Tahiti Fetes that anyone can compete in. If Tahiti opened it up like that it would just be the same, and be taken over by foreigners. After all let the Tahitian's be able to do what they want as its their(mine also) culture.
yes they have the right to do whatever they want on their Heiva, but this particular Heiva is NOT like the other's many Heiva around the world. This ONE is (THE HEIVA),so i dont think it would be just the same as others Heiva,if they opened it up like that. LET THE FOREIGNER COME IN AND LET'S THE PARTY BEGIN.
@MrKg1971 I know a lot of dancers from the US, that has gone over and been able to participate, not as a single solo, but rather just join a group that are competing, and dance for them at the Heiva...as long as u got the right contacts, which goes for most things in life...
can you tell me the name of thesong or how can I find it please

Le spectacle devait être très beau mais c'est super mal filmé, la caméra part dans tous les sens!
sylvidra1967 6 months ago
and how do you keep your hip piece in place? Mine always bounces off my skirt and up to my waist which obviously means zero movement...lol

how do u know theyre not tahitians?
ulam8889 2 years ago 2
b'cuz I know that Corrine dances for Hitia O Te Ra, and that group is from mainland, USA...
and the actual Heiva I Tahiti is seemingly only for Tahitian people, and French doesn't count I guess since Tahiti are governed by France.
Sometimes things are just like the way they are...

Her tahitian has improved much since her last videos. Good job. Go hitia o te ra!!!!
