@pirikitim1 That's a technique called "tapping". You can get sounds out of the strings if you just push them down hard enough with your fretting hand.

Of course you don't need lessons. Lessons is just a way of enhancing the understanding of techniques. I'm self taught myself, and only played for 3 and half years but i play a lot better than many my age (i'm in a school that specifies in music, and sorry if i so like a fuckin narcissist :P) you're totally right, passion is all it takes. It took me a year or so before i discovered Andy, and i began right away practicing songs like Drifting and For My Father and it has boosted my skills
