  • wow, this is a heavily commented video... cool to read the various expert and "expert" opinions.

  • looks like hes having a wank when he lands...

  • This has possibly the most instruments I have ever seen in a sailplane cockpit. The one I flew yesterday (in Hawaii) had 3 total, and I rarely refer to even them, although I would prefer to have an audio vario.

  • A nice landing and what a beautiful place to land sir! :D

Im 17 years old and hoping to join a glider/ultralight squad for this summer holiday!

My God, please let me enter :D

  • Thank you for all of your comments. Positive and negative. This was one of my first flights in a single seated. While the final may not have been of world beating standards not once did I go anywhere near a stall. Watching the film does not give you the same sensation as being there. The final turn is done at Camden over a river that is in a gully. This usually makes for an interesting ride.

  • Haha! Gliders are the best and funniest to fly at all!

No matter what boeing you fly!

    Gliders are the real flight

  • I can't believe VERY EXPERIENCED MASTER OF LORDS making comment on (un)coordinated final turn. Get a life. The pilot had a nice flight in beautiful weather and landed safely.

  • this cockpit looks familiar. is it a junior?

  • @hangarrat101 YES

  • nice landing ... the turn onto final was acceptably co-ordinated as the yaw string is quite long it looks worse than it was .... good smooth flare and held off nicely and stalled on well done PS its ok to open air brakes in a turn as long as u maintain the same airspeed and u r ready for the increased sink rate....( i wouldnt let a student do it to me tho) ......... :D

  • 00:38... if you want to survive your hobby, don't ever change the setting of the air brakes while in a curve during the landing approach. this is one critical mistake you do NOT want to make.

  • reducing airbrake setting is okay, because more lift isthen created by the wings, and less drag, therefore putting you farther away from stalling...

  • That looks like the scariest shit ever! Do you usually lose altitude that quickly on travel so fast as you are contacting the ground?

  • now i know the concept of what coordinating a turn with the yaw string is, but why is it important to maintain that coordination?

  • If you don't mantain it you create an additional drag which results in a loss of height.

  • ooohhh ok, beacuse your slipping sideways?

  • Yes.

  • ok cool, im going for ground school next year hopefully, its better i know as much as possible first

  • They will teach you there, but if you really want to know a lot I suggest you read some books or even get flying :)

  • yea, im in cadets so i have been flying a few times. any good books you recommend?

  • noooooooo, he is not totally correct. the importance of a coordinated turn is as he said to not create additional drag, BUT more importantly, if you do an uncoordinated stall, you can enter a spin, (depending on the glider, and how it's loaded) and a spin entry particularly during the landing my be impossible to recover from. THAT is truly the importance of coordinated turns, ESPECIALLY in the pattern.

  • yea, i learned about spins and stuff in my summer training course with cadets. that would be pretty bad at low altitude.

  • This is frightening. In the pattern, you need to constantly be thinking "air speed - yaw string" or else you're going to wind up being another statistic.

  • A statistic waiting to happen

  • First, you should seek further training immediately. Second, your coordination in the turns was very bad. Third, you should be making steeper banks in the pattern. Fourth, you were carrying way to much speed (which was actually okay considering your lack of coordination) for landing. Fifth, stop pumping the stick in the flare (which would lead to a future PIO). As an experienced CFIG (and aviator) I do believe you are headed for an accident. Your life depends on you getting better.

  • ive bin instructing on grob 109b motor gliders for about 2 years and im thinking i might have to start getting on to conventional gliders now lol. Ive never considered myself a glider pilot flying thoes things. its just not the same feeling. how many hours is it for full conventional licence solo and dual? im gona be lazy n ask you guys instead of lookin it up lol.

  • yeah loads too much rudder on that final turn! watch out for spin!

  • Nice landing.

  • Wow, big skid on turn to base! Watch out below!

  • That's a PZL junior if I'm not mistaken. Flew one of them yesterday :-)

  • It's a Junior. Nice Glider to fly. Looking forward to flying the Astir as it has a little more punch.

  • nice touchdown

  • watch?v=xpKWfyQq41U

  • a well flown landing, wel done

  • watch again, and pay attention to the yaw string during the turn to final.

Look at this video. It's a nice lesson on how to get into a spin while turning on final for landing.

AND YOU RATE THIS AS: a well flown landing, welL done.

  • i must have forgot the "how not..." at the start lol
