I've never been a big fan of Paul Shaffer's band doing the music for classic songs like this one. They never sound quite right & the guitar tone is way off here. I know the guest guitarist also had alot to do with that too though. I just wish Plamer had used his own band instead. But it's always great to see/hear him.

Powerful voice, flawless sense of time! This is a guy who knew how to SING, my friends! And Palmer was substance over style, yet still managed to be more stylish than just about anyone in such an image-conscious era in music.
@clyntonprice yeah thats Buddy. Chicago legend. I guess the Late Show must have been touring? Hence in Chicago, look up Buddy I suppose... but man, yer right. Paul literally is pointing with both hands: "NOW!" Jeez. Why bring in someone like that if they dont know the tune AT ALL? Oh well.
Not at first. He released several albums and singles before "Bad Case of Loving You" (written by Moon Martin) became a hit, and then he went nuclear with "Addicted to Love".
The session musicians were each trying to improve on the original in the small parts where they had solos. Where's the problem? RP was enough of a pro to deal with it: it wasn't his band.
I love this song soo much, I heard it in an episode of Scrubs and fell inlove with it. I'm loving the suit aswell, Looks like a Dad trying to be cool lol
That conductor is Paul Shaffer, the legendary leader of the band. There are no keyboard parts for the song so he decided to act like a conductor for an orchestra. I guess he felt he had to stay busy doing something.
I wouldn't trade places with many people, but wouldn't it be great to be Robert Palmer?! God bless you, Robert--I hope to meet you one day...........Rick
oh man, this guy could sing. they don't come like this anymore. Music is degrading slowly to tacky materialistic noise. This is how it should be. RIP Palmer you're the man.
you think music is degrading slowly? it's been crap for the last 25 years. just totally fell of a cliff in my estimation. i remember waking up one day in '84 and saying "What the Fuck?!?" and i was only 14 at the time. Although i loved the Power Station record. that was a good one-off project.
You have excellent taste. Robert Palmer was such a talented, classy and versatile artist. What a handsome man. So many of us miss you terribly, Robert. And will ALWAYS love you and your music.
"That guitarist" so many of you refer to is Buddy Guy, the greatest electric guitarist of our time. He's not known as a studio player, but someone who jams. And Robert's music was more pop than jam, so it makes sense he might not have played his best in the few seconds he was given. To see the great Robert Palmer and the great Buddy Guy together on one stage is amazing.
Is that guitarist on drugs? He's all OVER the place! He misses his notes at 0:53 and is even worse at 1:37 until the other guy takes over to spare his blushes. No wonder Robert's looking around as if to say 'WTF??'
