I Love the older Gaither video's, they seem so unrehearsted, and I Love the Old Timers, most have gone on to be with the Lord, the Songs and Singers was better than the New sound, I really dislike the New Gospel Sound, its like the New Country.
I LOVE the gaithers... but sometimes there is a really strong feel it is about the 'music'... the 'harmony' more than the subject of their worship and praise...JESUS CHRIST. I love the FUN... the fact that they are having so much fun... i am confused...that's all. Let me repeat.. I LOVE their songs... the words.. the deep deep soul searching words... I LOVE the JESUS...they are singing about!
@JuggernautWest that is RAY DEAN REESE of the legendary Kingsmen Quartet. He sang with them in the 60's and sings with them now. He sang awhile Gold City.
at 36 would be Ray Dean Reese. He sang bass with the Kingsmen in the 1960's. After the owner of t he group retired the group he sang with Gold City Quartet. Now the Kingsmen is back and he is back as the bass.
To slide up to a note in singing instead of hitting it accurately.
All parts can do this, usually to great effect when done appropriately. Scooping is used a lot in jazz or blues-type singing, and also in Southern Gospel.
See 2:56-57 in the above video, plus 4:04-5 for specific examples in this song.
It makes me think of Heaven...with all the singers worshiping God...till that time comes..I so wish to be there once and hear them singing:D God bless all the voices that sing to Him:)
I have to disagree, the basses are pretty well balanced. But you can def. hear David Phelps over Ernie...only because Ernie learned the "scoop" tenor method.
I'm not sure what the scooped method is but David's voice is much more powerful than Ernies. In Ernies work with SSQ he often is sharp and unable to hold a high note for very long. When he takes the lead you can hear the difference in his voice even compared to when he was with the Cathedrals.
I've actually worn my VHS out listening to this particular song over and over again! My dad's a bass singer, so he's gotta hear it a couple of times himself.
Hilarious at 4:07 when Mark runs up to David and Ernie and David jokingly pushes him away! Bet those two are fun to be around with the practical jokes and all!
@hugedell His name Ray Reese...He is the president and owner of Kingsmen family quarter now. He sings good bass too and he is very good friend of Rex Nelon.
Fan-triple-tastic!!! Again, takes me back to childhood, was taken by parents to Blackwood Bros., and Statesmen singing when I was six weeks old. Loved it ever since. This is excellent. Question, in this video there is a man sitting in a dark shirt beside Michael English, it's driving me nuts cause older age, not old age, is keeping me from remembering his name, can you help?? Thanks for putting this videos on as they really help in hetic times
I absolutely love the music of the Gaither Homecoming Friends, it lifts my heart everytime, and also, the now Late George Younce, was a great influence on me musically, as I started learning bass vocals from the first time I heard him sing along on the Homecoming shows :)
Thank you for uploading this, RIP George, for you're now in the god company of the Lord :)
Hey, hows it going. I just wanted to comment that our youth sings this in our church and everytime we do it, Oh my God does it send a mighty wind from up above through the Sanctuary. Somebody in our church always comes and gives there life to Jesus. Keep up the good work.
wow, great vid, hoover can u please post more vids displaying the great bass singers, rex nelon, ray reece, george younce, and any others, please please please, thanks!
what are the lyrics for the bass part??
