  • Lol you made this right after my vid 0_0

  • @Blackpigy102 Lol I was gettin' requests for it so I figured what the heck, might as well! What phone are you running with now?

  • @TheTechTemple Right now i'm still on the hero but i got it to cm 7.1, its exactly the same as 7.0 just wayyyyy smoother. I'm waiting for sprint to start the network upgrades to get a new phone since i dont want to get one that is cdma and then 2 months later have it not work lol

  • Will this work for the GSM model?

  • @crazybassist100 Yup but you'll need a different ROM specifically for the GSM model. I just put a link in the description so check there :-)

  • how long is it suppose to stay on cyanogen mod screen for?

  • @nickthaakidd It really shouldn't stay there for more than 2 minutes. If it does do a battery pull or go into recovery and pick "wipe data/factory rest" and also wipe the dalvik cache one more time.

  • I keep getting a verification failed message when I try to flash cm7, it says no digest for heroroot010

  • @SCLSUMuddogs I'm gonna have to look that one up since I've never had that error. You're rooted though, just can't put on CM7?

  • @TheTechTemple I was able to fix it, I basically had to wipe my phone and do the process over again. Thanks a lot, everything runs much smoother

  • @SCLSUMuddogs I'm glad you were willing to put the effort in to get it to work :-) Are your friends jealous yet? haha

  • This video was the best EVER!!! holy crap usually they dont work but this one works ppl!!!

Ijust hocked my phone up thanks to this guy!!!! Super props to u bro !!! :)

  • @Jeff1056059 I'm glad it worked for you Jeff!

  • mad respect, I was having problems installing a rom. Helped A LOT. Nice songs choices too.

  • @ALBTylerJC Glad I could help man. And thanks for the support, much appreciated!

  • rom manager isnt compatible with my htc hero...y is this?

  • @TheTechTemple is there a free ROM Manager.???

  • Dis Shit worked dude..lol ijuss had to do factory reset nd wipe cache and at the end it worked pretty cool xP

  • @ItzKiDCHiNO lol nicely done man! Enjoy your faster phone!

  • this is awesome it worked perfect for me

  • @cgroh0711 I'm glad it worked for you! :-)

  • Why do I get Hero Rooter could not be installed on this phone???

  • @hugo3conde Do you have "allow installation of non-market apps" checkmarked in your settings?

  • my phone broke its always on the cyanogen mod 7 screen but it wont work after i reboot and do the steps what can i do??

  • @shiznits115 Have you tried wiping the dalvik cache and cache partition? And factory reset?

  • can this work for the hd2

  • can this work for the tmobile hd2

  • @lionheart1372 Not sure if this particular method works for the HD2 but I don't see any reason why you couldn't root since Android can be put on it.

  • hey man, my software version on my hero is 2.32 do I need to revert back to 2.31 to do this? if so what should I do? thanx so much man for your help

  • how do u uninstall it?

  • @nikeairmj2010 I'll Inbox you. The process isn't that bad at all.

  • @techtemple i like the sense ui so i might go evo or evo shift and thanks for all your help your vidz are awsome keep up the good work

  • @zerakikenpachi19 Thanks for the support man! Don't forget that the Evo Design has a better screen than the Evo and they're the same price. Both have Sense.

  • @techtemple is the galaxy s2 a good phone for an upgrade or the photon

  • @zerakikenpachi19 I agree with you about the GS2. If only the screen was smaller :-\. I AM feelin' that Evo Design though. That thing is peeeeerfect and it's only $100. Seems more like a true successor to the Evo 4G than the Evo 3D is.

  • @techtemple do you have a vid for unroot ive been looking for some but there not good with explanation so i get lost on some parts

  • @zerakikenpachi19 For unrooting the Hero? I believe that it'll unroot if you install one of the official updates. I'll inbox you.

  • @octaviotube if you have the super user app on your phone its rooted its jus not reading the other mod so i guess we have to unroot cause our phones were updated by sprint so you cant root

  • @zerakikenpachi19 Yeah, root and unroot might be the way to go. @octaviotube is your phone still unlocked?

  • @techtemple can you also do a video on the new sense ui the 3.0 version if its posible

  • @zerakikenpachi19 I'd be about it if I had a phone with sense. I do like that carrousel effect they have.

  • @techtemple i think thats where i went wrong i dont think i downloaded it thanks for the help can i still download here on this vid or do i go to a website and download it there

  • Success!!!!!

  • @turbobenz Congrats! Thinking about gettin' the Hero 2 soon (a.k.a. Evo Design 4G) for $100?

  • Long and complicated. wack

  • @1cambiamos Hey it works. It's only long because it's detailed.

  • @techtemple i got to the part where i downloaded superuser but my htc letters are not blue there green and wen i run rom manager my clockword mod numbers are 2.5.0.7 and when i reboot my htc letters are still green plz help

  • @zerakikenpachi19 Are you sure you installed clockworkmod? I'd try to install it again using ROM Manager by clicking on "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery." The current version is 5.0.2.0, however I'm running 3.1.0.1 since I had some issues with an earlier version of 5.

  • @zerakikenpachi19 I got exactly the same mod version you did; different from thetechtemple's blue letter version...

techtemple, would it be because we are using Android bulid version 2.32.651.2? How can I be certain I've had a successful root?

I used the latest stable cyanogenmod version, cm-7.1.0

  • I get to the point in the video where you check software version. I have 2.32, does that mean I need an extra step?

  • @turbobenz I believe it should still work even if you're on 2.32

  • okay i gotta question 4 u . i got this extended battery off ebay for my htc hero but i put it on n it shows a battery with a ? inside n wont charge . wats wrong ?

  • @otemsgerald It has to be the battery if the battery that came with your phone isn't showing a question mark. I'd return it and get your money back. If they won't then you might want to remind them that you are going to give them negative feedback, which will prevent people from buying from that person in the future.

  • @TheTechTemple lol okayy dats smart

  • mine says theres an error occuring while trying to run privalage commands at the rom backup? how do i fix this

  • @da4thson Sounds like you need to go into the market and download the superuser app. It should have been installed though if everything was done correctly.

  • @techtemple..i followed everyrhing and wen i activate hero root i wait a minute and the bird recovery starts its good but my letters arent blue there still green and rom manger the numbers dont match yours and it still shows the green bar and my regular bar is there a way to fix it

  • i got a really quick question i jus tried to root my hero and its not working and i did everything in the vid the only difference was the numbers on rom manager plz help asap

  • @zerakikenpachi19 What happened when you used the rooting app?

  • Awesome video! I just loaded Cyanogen on my Hero; Took me a little longer than anticipated, & I ended up having to use both the "wipe dalvik cache," & "wipe factory..." I'm to try this on my phone before doing the same to my wife's. Thanks again for the awesome tutorial!

  • @kyoungerau Anytime! Let me know if you run into any other problems. Rooting has it's highs and lows.

  • can u teach me how to use this performance setting on CyanogenMod 7?

  • @otemsgerald The thing that says "danger, dragons ahead" or something like that? I don't even mess with those man lol.

  • @otemsgerald lol iight ill b sure not too . my battery life sucks !

  • @otemsgerald Haha yeah I feel you. I got tired of playing around with the settings after a while and just bought two more batteries. Keep one in the car just in case.

  • i got a phone with any exclamation mark n a triangle ? lol wat did i do wrong

  • @otemsgerald Lol, what did you do before you got to the exclamation mark? My guess is that you need to need to install clockworkmod through the app called ROM Manager. I wouldn't upgrade to version 5.X.X though since people have had some problems with it (including myself).

  • @TheTechTemple i got it i had to download the clockworkmod n it worked fine after that lol thanks. i backed up my current rom n it automatically downloaded it

  • what if during the nandroid backup it sayd there was an error generating md5 ??

  • @iAmSalvii Are you putting a space in the name when you rename the file?

  • When I did the HEROROOT, I rebooted, Shouldn't I have the SuperUser app? Cus I don't have it and ROM Manager isnt flashing a ClockWorkMod Recovery cus of that, I believe.

  • @iAmSalvii 1) Nope you don't have to revert back to 2.1. 2) Did you check to see if the recovery menu was there after you restarted it?

  • @iAmSalvii Did you find an answer to this? I have the exact same problem. After reboot, I installed the ROM Manager, but it fails every time with this error: "You must root your phone for ROM Manager to function. Superuser was not found at "/system/bin/su" or "/system/xbin/su". Use Google Searth on your computer to find instructions to root your phone." This is very frustrating and I'm ready to abandon hope of rooting my Hero now :(

  • @ominousnocturna No i didnt. I found a different way to flash CM7, I just didnt do the nandroid back. but I havent regretted it at all. I love the way my Hero is now. its so much better thanks to CM7

  • @iAmSalvii CM7 is that ish! How long have you had your Hero for?

  • @TheTechTemple since the beginning of summer, bought it from a friend slightly used.

  • What if my software number is 2.32? do i have to revert back to 2.1? how could i do that?

  • Thanks a lot man! I'd like to ask if you could make a video or post a tutorial on how to port the Sprint HTC Hero over to Verizon. I've seen a lot of people are able to do this but no one is giving up the information how. Please Help My Crappy Blackberry is testing my patience.

  • @Robotbop1 I'll have to do some research and get back to you. In the mean time, do you know anyone with a Droid Eris (it's the same thing as the Hero)? If not then I bet you can find one on craiglist for the low!

  • @TheTechTemple Thanks for responding! and yea that was going to be my next move if i couldn't figure this out.

  • @Robotbop1 Yeah, I think that'd be the easiest move. I saw one late last week for $80 I believe...but also saw a Droid X for $100 lol, so maybe you can get something better to hold you down for a while!

  • Thanks!! took me a while to get off the infinite loop on the cyanogen start up screen but clearing all data fixed that issue for me. Really informative video ive never done anything like this and found it rather easy with this video. Thanks

  • @bowtieracing818 Haha I remember when that happened to me and all I could think of was "noooooOOOO!" Glad you got it fixed though and happy that the video helped you out. I had some good times with my Hero...R.I.P.

  • The Hero root says it can't install on my phone but i have a htc hero (sprint)

  • @RetroCyanide Do you have the "unknown sources" box checked in menu > settings > applications?

  • Comment removed

  • @RetroCyanide I see you figured out the answer lol.

  • After I downloaded the first file I click 'open' and it says 'windows can not open this file' then gives me 2 options

1.use the web service to find the appropriate program

    2.Select program from a list.

  • @iRideHondaCR You don't need to unzip the files. Just put them on your SD card.

  • @ninjacat513 I feel you on that. It is nice just to do the one click thing and be done with it. Learning the manual way was nice though because at some point you might wanna uninstall some of the apps (like e-mail, dsp manager, etc.) to make room on your phone, which requires a computer.

  • I tried clearing the dalvick cache and it still won't restart, any ideas

  • @chunkerd81 Yeah, try picking the "wipe data/factory reset" option.

  • 1) Yup, should work with 2.32.651.2. 2) Yeah you can do a nandroid backup without ROM Manager, but I prefer to use it because you can name it something to remind you of what's on that backup. And I'm more comfortable with Clockwork Mod, which is the recovery that ROM Manager uses.

  • my hero is saying my sd card is not installed.......i installed cyanogenmod7 without unmounting my sd card. but in recovery i can view sd card, once reboot...no sd card. any suggestions??

  • @dhilldjam1 If you can get your computer to read your phone and the SD card, I'd copy everything from your card and put it onto your computer (just in case). Then turn your phone off, remove the SD card all the way, then put it back in and boot up. Did that do anything?

  • @TheTechTemple sd card keep saying "safe to remove" when i don't want to remove it

  • @dhilldjam1 When you hook it up to your computer? Whatever way you can, I'd copy everything from my SD card to my computer/another storage device. Then use your phone to format the SD card.

  • @TheTechTemple i pulled the sd card and saved to my computer. then partition the card. im good now, first time rooting, few steps i missed. lucky nothin major...thanks

  • @dhilldjam1 Nothin' like some rooting woes lol. Glad you got it workin'!

  • @ninjacat513 Hero Rooter was specifically for the Hero, so it just made more sense for me to use that than Z4root. And I believe clockworkmod has to be used in order to make a recovery backup at that point. You can alwas put AmanRa back on or any other one you like.

  • You finally took the big step :)

  • @technoupdatenow Hahah right!? Figured it was time to do so :-)

  • @TheTechTemple I love having mine rooted, adds a ton of features.

  • @technoupdatenow I can't imagine having a Hero that's not rooted...dreadful!

  • @TheTechTemple Neither can I now.............

  • @technoupdatenow How long have you had yours?

  • First :)
