@TheTechTemple Right now i'm still on the hero but i got it to cm 7.1, its exactly the same as 7.0 just wayyyyy smoother. I'm waiting for sprint to start the network upgrades to get a new phone since i dont want to get one that is cdma and then 2 months later have it not work lol
@nickthaakidd It really shouldn't stay there for more than 2 minutes. If it does do a battery pull or go into recovery and pick "wipe data/factory rest" and also wipe the dalvik cache one more time.
@zerakikenpachi19 Thanks for the support man! Don't forget that the Evo Design has a better screen than the Evo and they're the same price. Both have Sense.
@zerakikenpachi19 I agree with you about the GS2. If only the screen was smaller :-\. I AM feelin' that Evo Design though. That thing is peeeeerfect and it's only $100. Seems more like a true successor to the Evo 4G than the Evo 3D is.
@octaviotube if you have the super user app on your phone its rooted its jus not reading the other mod so i guess we have to unroot cause our phones were updated by sprint so you cant root
@techtemple i think thats where i went wrong i dont think i downloaded it thanks for the help can i still download here on this vid or do i go to a website and download it there
@techtemple i got to the part where i downloaded superuser but my htc letters are not blue there green and wen i run rom manager my clockword mod numbers are 2.5.0.7 and when i reboot my htc letters are still green plz help
@zerakikenpachi19 Are you sure you installed clockworkmod? I'd try to install it again using ROM Manager by clicking on "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery." The current version is 5.0.2.0, however I'm running 3.1.0.1 since I had some issues with an earlier version of 5.
okay i gotta question 4 u . i got this extended battery off ebay for my htc hero but i put it on n it shows a battery with a ? inside n wont charge . wats wrong ?
@otemsgerald It has to be the battery if the battery that came with your phone isn't showing a question mark. I'd return it and get your money back. If they won't then you might want to remind them that you are going to give them negative feedback, which will prevent people from buying from that person in the future.
@da4thson Sounds like you need to go into the market and download the superuser app. It should have been installed though if everything was done correctly.
@techtemple..i followed everyrhing and wen i activate hero root i wait a minute and the bird recovery starts its good but my letters arent blue there still green and rom manger the numbers dont match yours and it still shows the green bar and my regular bar is there a way to fix it
i got a really quick question i jus tried to root my hero and its not working and i did everything in the vid the only difference was the numbers on rom manager plz help asap
Awesome video! I just loaded Cyanogen on my Hero; Took me a little longer than anticipated, & I ended up having to use both the "wipe dalvik cache," & "wipe factory..." I'm to try this on my phone before doing the same to my wife's. Thanks again for the awesome tutorial!
@otemsgerald Haha yeah I feel you. I got tired of playing around with the settings after a while and just bought two more batteries. Keep one in the car just in case.
@otemsgerald Lol, what did you do before you got to the exclamation mark? My guess is that you need to need to install clockworkmod through the app called ROM Manager. I wouldn't upgrade to version 5.X.X though since people have had some problems with it (including myself).
@TheTechTemple i got it i had to download the clockworkmod n it worked fine after that lol thanks. i backed up my current rom n it automatically downloaded it
When I did the HEROROOT, I rebooted, Shouldn't I have the SuperUser app? Cus I don't have it and ROM Manager isnt flashing a ClockWorkMod Recovery cus of that, I believe.
@iAmSalvii Did you find an answer to this? I have the exact same problem. After reboot, I installed the ROM Manager, but it fails every time with this error: "You must root your phone for ROM Manager to function. Superuser was not found at "/system/bin/su" or "/system/xbin/su". Use Google Searth on your computer to find instructions to root your phone." This is very frustrating and I'm ready to abandon hope of rooting my Hero now :(
@ominousnocturna No i didnt. I found a different way to flash CM7, I just didnt do the nandroid back. but I havent regretted it at all. I love the way my Hero is now. its so much better thanks to CM7
Thanks a lot man! I'd like to ask if you could make a video or post a tutorial on how to port the Sprint HTC Hero over to Verizon. I've seen a lot of people are able to do this but no one is giving up the information how. Please Help My Crappy Blackberry is testing my patience.
@Robotbop1 I'll have to do some research and get back to you. In the mean time, do you know anyone with a Droid Eris (it's the same thing as the Hero)? If not then I bet you can find one on craiglist for the low!
@Robotbop1 Yeah, I think that'd be the easiest move. I saw one late last week for $80 I believe...but also saw a Droid X for $100 lol, so maybe you can get something better to hold you down for a while!
Thanks!! took me a while to get off the infinite loop on the cyanogen start up screen but clearing all data fixed that issue for me. Really informative video ive never done anything like this and found it rather easy with this video. Thanks
@bowtieracing818 Haha I remember when that happened to me and all I could think of was "noooooOOOO!" Glad you got it fixed though and happy that the video helped you out. I had some good times with my Hero...R.I.P.
@ninjacat513 I feel you on that. It is nice just to do the one click thing and be done with it. Learning the manual way was nice though because at some point you might wanna uninstall some of the apps (like e-mail, dsp manager, etc.) to make room on your phone, which requires a computer.
1) Yup, should work with 2.32.651.2. 2) Yeah you can do a nandroid backup without ROM Manager, but I prefer to use it because you can name it something to remind you of what's on that backup. And I'm more comfortable with Clockwork Mod, which is the recovery that ROM Manager uses.
my hero is saying my sd card is not installed.......i installed cyanogenmod7 without unmounting my sd card. but in recovery i can view sd card, once reboot...no sd card. any suggestions??
@dhilldjam1 If you can get your computer to read your phone and the SD card, I'd copy everything from your card and put it onto your computer (just in case). Then turn your phone off, remove the SD card all the way, then put it back in and boot up. Did that do anything?
@dhilldjam1 When you hook it up to your computer? Whatever way you can, I'd copy everything from my SD card to my computer/another storage device. Then use your phone to format the SD card.
@TheTechTemple i pulled the sd card and saved to my computer. then partition the card. im good now, first time rooting, few steps i missed. lucky nothin major...thanks
@ninjacat513 Hero Rooter was specifically for the Hero, so it just made more sense for me to use that than Z4root. And I believe clockworkmod has to be used in order to make a recovery backup at that point. You can alwas put AmanRa back on or any other one you like.
Lol you made this right after my vid 0_0
