clutch and transmission problems occur much more often in vehicles with larger than stock size wheels. typically going up 1 inch in wheel size won't hurt anything but i've seen it many times...
I just bought a 90 GSX and I consider my 06 Cobalt SS more of a beater than the GSX.
But DSMs have always had a special place in my heart seeing as my first car was a 92 Laser RS AWD. Never had a problem with it other than brake lines and a couple oil leaks.
Good work bro, I can always respect someone that can see a nice car in a "beater" DSM. Most people seem to think older weathered cars = junk. Thats not the case or classic muscle would be gone. Theres 3 things that can make any beater a nice car. Time, care, and money.
im lookin at one that looks like it was switched to fwd. but it's still turbo and still has a rear end. why would someone do that and would it be hard to switch back to awd?
nope just got to hook up the t-case and drive shaft and your awd again. Don't recomend doing it without welded diff tho I done seen what happen to my buddies diff and it was herendus
fuckin nice car bro. i'm selling my firebird in the spring and i'm looking into getting a 1g talon with the 420a for mileage. are they reliable with an auto or should i buy a stick. what one am i gonna spend less time fixing? i heard the turbos break nonstop too. is that true?
no that is a load of horse shit i have owned 4 tsi's and 1 gsx 1st gen and never had a problem that was not caused by my own abuse like making the turbo push 20psi on a 14B
True true....I get sick of people giving DSM a bad name simply because they beat the shit out of a 10-18 year old car and something breaks on them. What do they expect? DSM actualy had high ratings in the 90's when they were NEW! Car and drivers 10 best and a few other car awards. People just think they have a race car because they bought a turbo charged car. Worn out stock parts dont = race and that something people need to get through there head i guess lol. One word....Rebuild!
super nice dsm dood but seriously slap a turbo on her and make it awd take a look at my dsm lol rite now im tearing it down to put wiseco nine to one compression pistons eagle tods and a balanced reman crank, then maybe i will look at the hp numbers a little more not to sure yet though... great car though and take it a little easier on the clutchs man lol
What a IDIOT!! Slap a turbo and make it AWD.. LOL Why dont you go ahead and make it a Airplane while your at it!! Leave it the way it is, if you want an AWD you buy the GSX . Putting a turbo on a car that didnt come with one isnt cost effective.
actually if you already have the 6bolt block its way cheaper to do this than to buy a gsx! you can get all the parts to do this for what $600 and a gsx costs like what 8K?
how is that not cost efective i could sell him ALL the parts he would need to turbo that car right now for 550 shipped and if he wanted to go AWD 3000 including a awd evo 3 5 speed tranny, driveshafts, rear end, diff, drive axles, bolts, detailed instructions on the how to so for 3K its awd and turboed, cheaper than the GSX
Man its no where near that easy to do...You have to change wiring harness....ECU...You have to have a 1g MAF sensor, o2 houseing, downpipe, turbo, turbo manifold, turbo intake...etc etc. Thats just to name a few. Its easier almost to just but a turbo car!
The NT motor can handle the boost fine. I swapped in a NT motor into my 92 TSI AWD, run full boost all the time, no issues except having to run 93 octane fuel all the time. Motor has 145000 miles on it, never misses a beat.
yea last time I ran an N/A motor on a build shit came undone real fast and was looking for a block in two weeks. but It could have been just a bullshit dsm malfunction, but point is I will never run an N/A motor agian unless It has the squirters in it and all the other stuff because when I did that build I didn't know they had all the that down there.
Must have been a bad motor. Mine has been flawless. The squirters are a failure area for oil pressure. You are better off without them. They have kits for removing them, and it is a recommended upgrade for reliability.
something missing ? take a guess? ...........i was wrong i guessed a turbo
