I was really bummed when my album didn't come with the second "Still" disc. Likewise, I thoroughly enjoyed the live disc, and...really, the Still disc is only $8 in iTunes. Considering it's NIN, it's practically a steal.
I still remember the first time I heard this song. I was young too.. it was like this great cold universe opened itself inside me. I still get chills just thinking about how it felt. It's something so holy it only happens once.. on that first listen.
@ivanhhh1 Get their album The Downward Spiral to start with, or if you're a singles oriented person go for these. Piggy March Of The Pigs The Day The Whole World Went Away The Great Bellow The Fragile We're In This Together Closer Dead Souls (a great cover) Hurt This one Sunspots All The Love In The World Sin Something I Can Never Have That's What I Get Wish Reptile Starfuckers, Inc. Enjoy.
@EdwardMarshall1982 You took the words straight out of my mouth! I am still at a loss as to how he managed to convey such raw, powerful, complex and intricate emotions, and spin it beautifully into a tapestry of magnificence. You can look at each individual thread and see how simplistic it can be, but when you zoom out and view the entire artwork, you are immediately blown away by the beauty and blinded by the brilliance of each and every thread.
hes far from emo he dont run around slitting his wrists and saying he wants to die. hes a true artist that can take any feeling and amplify it ten fold with his music. i just hate how stupid and ignorant people are. I guess you just have to be a little mature to understand the true nature of it.
@dognita alot of the NIN fans I meet in person are annoying and extremely self absorbed. They act as if the songs really are about them and them alone. It's very annoying :/.
@Skoople88 hurting people are self-absorbed for a good reason. they're hurting. it's hardly different from physical pain. they pay attention to the pain until they find a way to make it stop. when they finally find it, they share it because they care for others. they are not annoyed by the pain of other people.
Trent can care because he has experienced pain. Some go to his words and the unspoken message of his music because they recognize that empathy - that empathy some will never have
Trent has a habit of tracking my emotions throughout the years. This one was dead nuts with how I felt at the time, as usual. Definitely goes down as one of my favorite songs of all time and favorite Trent song. I'm curious what he's going to do next so I know where my head will be in a couple years... Also, I see him unseating Elfman from the soundtrack throne. It seems like his destiny.
I just can't believe i never heard this song until today. I think it was for the best, I wouldn't have been able to handle it back then. It is the perfect song to an unhappy ending. The lyrics are so true.
@Firehckyman99 DOOOOOO ITTTTTTT! YOUR LIFE IS A BIG BLACK ABYSS OF NOTHING AND BROKEN DREAMS, OF WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN. JUST FUCKING END IT BRO, well skype while we do it .
I liked the title, so I clicked on it.... and when it began, tears were just behind the surface, and it was one of the most beautiful things I had ever heard. Well done Trent.... well done.
alot of you guys have probably heard the story trent told about how he planned to kill himself at a certain point in his life.. i'm so thankful he never did. he was one of the few who was able to overcome his adversity through his music before it killed him.
Trent, please....Please don't stop making music that others are afraid to make. That others don't know how to make. You reach into the core of all your listeners, and all forgotten, upset, lonely, and sad can relate to the songs and love the music you create. You're incredibly talented.
This song is epic. I can't imagine a world where Nine Inch Nails did not exist....Trent makes music that touches a place deep down within a person's soul, in their very core..
Hey peeps, not a fan of "shameless puns" but seems it's a must to spread yourself today. So I'm spreading this message on all vids that I love myself, figurin if You have the same taste as I do you might enjoy my own music? Sure Trent wouldn't mind. Just released a demo, check it out if ya have the time :) Take care everyone! Liam Andrew
its so weird how the saddest songs cheer me up when im depressed. i remember listening to this when it came out. and now im in the same place i was 9 years ago but this song helps.
@vetiarvind A master of turning emotion into art. I feel like trent is speaking to me when he writes like the millions of fans also do. Simplistic conveyance of complicated emotions relatable by everyone. Technically simplistic lyrically simplistic, and yet there is a master at work doing nothing too extravagant, and yet everything simply perfect. Trent is the Mozart of our time.
For me, this song is nothing but a beautiful face. porceline maybe, cracking and falling on the floor, but too sharp and too fragile to pick up, to remember. a little bonus to life is love with a big impact on who i become in the "everchanging" future. when your not around, i remember i am without you and the world seems ugly and only full of sores and black tar cancer filling their apathetic faces.
Can anyone point out any remixes or other versions? I could have sworn I've heard the 3 minutes onwards part a lot louder and more aggressively done by them....was it a live version maybe?
I used to listen this a long time ago when i broke up with a girl i loved to death.
Even when we came back together a couple of months after that, we finally took different ways. This was one of the songs that i listen to every night before sleep.
Nowadays this song still bring me chills down my spine. I usually remember her before i close my eyes to bring a new day to my life, a new day without her...
wow! i went a month without listening to this guys music... What a great way to self reflect... anyone who can enjoy this is a beautiful person, thats forsure!
@Killzoneguy117 I know right? It made me happy that I'm actually, finally doing something with my life. It made me look back and realize I hadn't done jack sh*t. And I wasn't even paying attention to the lyrics... weird.
@GamePath Exactly. Its a brilliant song. A lot of people complain about how kids listen to Justin Beiber and The Black Eyed Peas and all that crap. I personally am glad that they listen to that shit. If they take that shit seriously, they don't deserve to listen to the amazing work of art that is Nine Inch Nails. This is for those who can appreciate good music with meaningful lyrics.
@arcticmonkeyzzz I think I feel ya frequency, when I am angry, emotional, sad, depressed, Trent seems to meet me where I'm at with his brilliant music. Maynard from TOOL, PUSCIFER & A Perfect Circle does it too with his music, its just more mental/spiritual than Trent, but they both capture me introspectively and pull out my artistic and creative and even reactive side, I make music better, I allow myself to vent when I need to so I don't bottle up my emotions, first NIN, then I listen to TOOL!
@SHAWNWILD1 Brilliant taste in music. I'm fifteen and it's so hard to find anyone that will even listen to a Tool song for more than two minutes. Instead they just go listen to their mindless, obnoxious BROSTEP LOLOLOL.
@SHAWNWILD1 i feel ya dude, trent and maynard's music just have that dark, angry, sad, and just feeling blue vibe. i always listen to their music when i have a bad day/week or when it just feels like the whole world is against you and nothing is going your way.
BTW... he doesn't really like or consider his music to be "Industrial"
He is a mastermind yes... but not of industrial music. Read "Nine Inch Nails" by Mark Huxley. Not being an ass here, just correcting you with words directly from the horse's mouth.
I know this is probably a really stupid question, but everytime I search for this album it's all live songs and they're different. Where is this collection of songs?
@VerticaDrums You've probably got the right album, but it's 2 cds. You need the one that has the studio and instrumental tracks, because the other one just has live tracks.
the instruments and the lyrics are beyond breath taking, just each of them alone are a master piece, but both of them combined are truly a master piece
@dreaincarnate1231 Be strong and get over it. Life is way to short to worry about it. Everything breaks, everything dies, everyone has their day. You could go anytime. But when you go, it's not the end, but the beginning.
@KyleSurette13 yeah... wish it was this simple to make the end a new beginning JUST with words and hope, but reality is not words and hopes, or believe....
@dreaincarnate1231 hmm i didnt lose the thing that made me happiest... i lost everything that made me happy or my self... but what i do?... hmm im just cleaning all my memory from all that good things and forget all my happyness and my self, so maybe i can survive this way and find a new happiness, ofcourse i doubt i will be happy ever again, but at least i will survive im dont wana lose to this life who took every single dream of mine and burned them in frost of me... i hope u do the same....
@jaymesnin be careful...we are biased after all... having "grown up" with this guy, I will be the first to admit that his music is the soundtrack to my life... however, there are other masters out there... keep your ears and eyes open... oh....and let me know when you find some...heh... ;)
@CybershamanX Celldweller is another great one man industrial act, has that same attention to detail and perfectionism that I highly respect from Reznor. Though his music might not be as deep or layered as much of NIN's, he does put a huge amount of work into its production... if you like songs like "The Perfect Drug", you might like the style.
Oh, and Maynard James Keenan of Tool, A Perfect Circle, Puscifer is extremely talented as well.
I was really bummed when my album didn't come with the second "Still" disc. Likewise, I thoroughly enjoyed the live disc, and...really, the Still disc is only $8 in iTunes. Considering it's NIN, it's practically a steal.

Trent Reznor looked into our souls....and for a brief moment, saw all that could have been.

If this song were a waffle, it would be a damn good waffle

@xNukeUx It would also leave an ever so slight bitter taste in your mouth that only more of the waffle can suppress. o_0
