There have been so many rumours and misunderstandings about the end of Instant Star after 4 seasons.
I want to be very clear that at the time we wrote, shot and produced the season finale for Instant Star Season 4, it was everyone's intention (including the broadcasters, the actors and the producers) to continue on through Season 5.
IAnd in fact it was everyone's intention that Season 5 would be the final season, and we would write storylines building to a finale at Episode 513.
It was extremely disappointing to me, disappointing to the cast, and disappointing to our writers and production team when we found out that the series was cancelled and that Episode 413 would be the final episode.
If we had known it would not continue, doubtless the story for Episode 413 would have been much different.
At the time when the series was cancelled, I wrote a post talking about it, and did not mention how it got cancelled—there were facts that could not be made public at the time, and indeed there was no pressing reason at that time to discuss publicly why the cancellation happened.
In fact, even my original post about this which did not go much further than announcing the cancellation and trying to make the best of it, caused enough upset that the post was removed from the degrassi.tv site (without my prior knowledge it was being removed).
In any event it is important to me to set the record straight, and to make it clear that the cast are not to blame for the cancellation.
While I know that some cast members, including Alexz, have subsequently talked about how it was time to move on, those statements have been made looking back, and trying to make the best of what was at the time a disappointing situation. Yes, in retrospect for Alexz's career she now has the time to devote to completing her album which she would not have had if Season 5 had happened—and her forthcoming album is so wonderful

It was simply impossible to replace the financing, in the short time we had to do so. We are extremely grateful for the support of both networks over the course of the 4-year run (and we all know that relatively few series run as long as 4 years).

@sophiajunie Forgive me if I'm off-base. I've only been privy to Season 1 & 2 on Netflix. Looking for a torrent for 3 & 4 (free? LOL) Perhaps the writers unsuccesfully played the corporate game and left things hanging in HOPE of being picked up for another season (5?). It failed, but to have wrapped things up would have made it VERY easy to cancel a popular show. Maybe?
@sophiajunie um, it wasn't the writer's fault. it wasn't alexz johnson's decision either. the network pulled the show after they finished filming the fourth season. they didn't get a chance to wrap things up.
I think it's in the episode where there is a party for Jude 's mother in the second season but I'm not sure. I don't know the title of the episode in english because I'm French so the title is different sorry.

Well IS wasn't supposed to end with season 4, the producers got news of IS ending with the fourth season when it began to end. If they had known sooner they would have for sure made it end better then it did. Without the cliffhangers and without Jude leaving Tommy for good, or for now.
i simply cant understand why jude doesnt stay with tommy when he was willing to do anything for her!! such a shock for me, a great ending and a real lesson for life =)

I love this song. I love how the beginning sounds so intimate with the acoustic guitar and then it slowly switches over to this hopeful tone with the drums and piano. Not to mention the lyrics are lovely. So beautiful! :)

i simply cant understand why jude doesnt stay with tommy when he was willing to do anything for her!! such a shock for me, a great ending and a real lesson for life =)

yea.. but you see the sad part is;That was the last season!! :( so we'll never know what happens after all of this... which is quite sad...:( oh well.. The show is amazing! and so are all of her songs!!! Especially this one!!

I love this song. I love how the beginning sounds so intimate with the acoustic guitar and then it slowly switches over to this hopeful tone with the drums and piano. Not to mention the lyrics are lovely. So beautiful! :)

i really like tommy but in the new season they make tommy a somewhat 'bad guy' and he is rude which is sad..cuz i really liked them together but i do think jamie and her aare cute but so is her a speed..lol..but speed has karma now! haha
