  • Why are those bells tuned so low?

  • What did you say on 0:19? I couldn't understand what you said.

  • I don't mind the e-bells they have on the lines I'm railfanning, but man those e-bells sound almost like a locomotive bell. I actually thought that was the locomotive's bell.

  • And tSounds like Church is in session with all the bells ROTFL

  • Those bells sound sick... is there a doctor in the house?

  • I dont like the WCH E-bells at all, but out of all the ones i have heard these are by far the worst? Are the signals suppose to skip like that? or are they starting to go out?

  • WCH HAYES!! STOP MAKING THESE HORRIBLE SOUNDING BELLS!!

  • i live very near this and you can hear this at random times in the day and night.

  • where is this?

  • These sound like church bells tolling.

  • Those bells sound awful! =(

  • what's the car number at 2:52?

  • MY two year old LOVES this video! We must account for 1,000 of the views!

  • the siren bells changed?

  • How fast can this go ?

  • @Avilaalex91 i think vta lightrail top speed limit is 55

  • Bad bells! Good video.

  • My poor ears!

  • are those GS TYPE 3 E- bells?

  • that's a WCH E-Bells

  • I know.

  • This crossing's e-bells don't sound 2 good.

  • This was the Mountain View-Winchester line, right?

  • Yes. This is the Middlefield Rd stop in Mountain View.

  • Very nice job of videography, Nuts!

The train's electronic bell sounds louder than its real bell. Is the electronic bell aimed forward and therefore "spills" less noise pollution to the sides where not needed?

UP3985, real mechanical bells wear out and have a higher failure rate.

Do electronicounterfeits send less noise to the sides than real bells?

May be important when trying to not needlessly disturb residents nearby.

  • They just sound like crap when they're set to ring that slow. Why don't they just use a real bell and have it shut-up when the gates have lowered (like on NS and CSX)? That would be the best setup, and still less obnoxious.

  • Imagine it ringing at a lower speed!

  • Do a search for "UP Carroll Iowa". It's by YouTube user tylerwinks. The bell at that crossing also rings this slow.

  • THX!

  • UP, light rails, commuter rails, and short line railroads were very popular with this bell.

  • Yes, this bell is all over the place on UP. However, UP still has more mechanical bells left on their lines than any other major RR.

  • well i know that california and michigan (and probably a few other western states too) regulate that the bell ring while the gate is down. california also is in the process of phasing in a regulation where it must ring while the gate goes up too.

  • why do the bells sound funky

  • Because they're WCH Type 3 Electronic Bells set to a slow ringing tone.

  • there a hell of a lot less obnoxious then regular bells more peacefull

  • Their ringing rate is adjustable.

  • I like it when bells ring fast like Mission Blvd in San Gabriel and in Rochelle
