Great video. If one were to want to make ballistic plates out of kevlar, i've heard that K29 745 would work? Would epoxy resin work just fine? What hardener should I use?
At about 3:20 you say you'd rather use more resin, but if im right i recall that you need less resin to make stronger parts? I mean make sure its soaked through but too much just leads to a weaker part i was told?
I believe he was only trying to emphasize the difficulty of wetting out Kevlar. It's true that less is more, however you must make sure the cloth is saturated.
@JamestownTV Ah okay, thanks for clearing that up for me :) I've never attempted anythign with Kevlar so i can't say i'd have understood the difficulty!
I would skip the Kevlar part. Make is out of several layers of 6 ounce fiberglass cloth and as a final touch for cosmetics use a layer of carbon twill weave cloth.
Good video to show how the resin is applied in a composite but in my opinion there is a lot more resin used than required increasing the weight of the material, taking longer to cure IF it is not squeezed out by compression (bleed). But these seem to be just the test samples, not the actual part. So its Ok in this form.
and i'd laminate the material (aramid, f/g, carbon) in plastic, and squeeze out most of the resin.
yeah true errbody got their own way of doing it. you gotta have teh goodstuff resin like hysol 828 on carbon and gell-ing it for a godo 2-3hrs. and heating should be graduall.
Yes, there are, Well kinda. They normally have a metal bladder (aluminum) that holds the air and have a outer layer for strength which can determine the thickness of the inner bladder depending on the the outer layers construstion.
Well, everyone seems to do things their own way. It always seems that pros don't do things according to the manufacturer's directions. Their years of experience often tell them something different. This demo was of a sales rep who has many years in the business.
What the hell did I just watch?

kevlar doesn't melt at all. It chares at well over 500 degrees. Put it in fire and you can see.

I have been trying to learn how to make bulet-proof armor. A friend told me that I can use melted Kevlar?

Where do you buy your materials? Carbon Fiber, Kevlar and so forth? Are they very expensive for doing just home projects?
