I really like this version for one reason: Elvis was one of Dylan's biggest childhood influences. I'm not sure young Bob Dylan would've thought in a million years one of his idols would be covering a song by him. Fantastic song.
The entire version should had been released by RCA back in 1972 as the full B side of Elvis Now, removing from that album Hey Jude and Miracle of Rosary and Sylvia, making it a complete concept Folk Album. It would had been a blast to everyone mainly the critics.
Thanks a bunch for the info TCB123. I was aware this was on his new "Elvis Now" on FTD...but did'nt know if it was the short version or this GREAT LONG version. Now that I know it's the long - I'm ordering it pronto! By the way - Elvis got this song as well as "That's What You Get For Lovin' Me" from his Peter, Paul and Mary listening days. Yes, Elvis loved folk music too!
TCB 123 - Hey, thanks for the info! I saw the new "Elvis Now" but I was wondering if it was the short version or this great long version! To quote a famous TV marine from the 60s....."Thank ya! Thank ya! Thank ya!" ..... (Gomer Pyle) :))
The full version of this recording runs a whopping 11:25 -- epic by anyone's standards, especially Elvis Presley's. At a "mere" 8:30, this recording was heavily edited for "Our Memories Of Elvis, Vol. 2", and vastly edited for the original "Fool" album (truncated to a tiny 2:42). Fortunately, a longer version -- running a healthy 9:16 -- has just been released on the new FTD release of "Elvis Now". You can buy it today, folks. Just put "elvis now ftd" into Google and see for yourself.
@TCB123 The longer version now is available on "Elvis-Fool" by FTD. Running time: 9'16". There are a lot of bootlegs featuring a 14'26" version but it's a fake studio version (long editing...).
Toooo cooool!!!! I just heard this on Sirius Elvis, and was really hoping I could find it. Thank you so much for the posting. Your video is the absolute best.
This song demonstrates why elvis displayed more artistry than given credit for.Oh he could have made this a sad song but the hint of optimism and repetitiveness makes this unequaled. Thanks Marco !!
hmm... so the version on the Fool CD was 2 minutes 42 seconds, and this version is 8 minutes 29 seconds - the version i have on my computer is 3 minutes 58 seconds, but i don't remember now where i found it... so weird!
The first time I heard this song was in the mid 1960's when Frankie Valle and the Four Seasons did it. They used to wear masks and called themselves The Wonder Who.
I grew up in the 59s when Elvis hit the music scene and appeared in the movie "Love Me Tender." I will never forget the 50s -- some of the best music ever!!
I love this song so very much. This is easily my most favorite version of this song. I don't own the album that this 8:30 version is on. That album was long out of print by the time I first started buying Elvis CD's in the Summer of 1994. There'll never be another Elvis. Your Elvis videos are the best by far, 10 Stars as always Marco.
The King ! But let's not forget here the rythm section, one of the best I've ever heard !...

@mipreloan Ciao.Ad oggi, la reale versione di questa canzone più luinga è quella di 9'16" della FTD nel doppio "Elvis.Fool" del 2010...
Le altre di oltre 14' sono trucchi effettuati in studio...
