  • this guy's last name is Smiley? jesus no wonder he's so goddamn pleasant...

  • i've also worked a lot with not lying, its very easy to lie without noticing it, but it really makes you feel a lot better. i lol'd at the it's "loneliness and poverty" on the other side.

  • Louis is talking about Marc Maron, right? Its gotta be him.

  • this is a great interview

  • Louis is talking about Marc Maron, right? Its gotta be him.

  • Louis is talking about Marc Maron, right? Its gotta be him.

  • He is clearly a very intelligent man... some good thoughts on lying in this video.

  • fucking great conversation.

  • I.... was he in that movie?

  • @anonfromebaumsworld Yeah believe it or not he is. Look at the trailer again. Him not having that beard really makes a difference, doesn't it? lol

  • host is annoying. laughs too much.

  • great host, i've never seen a black man that sounded like that...

  • my tax money funds Tavis Smiley...

  • Louis CK is awesome but i nearly fell asleep watching this

  • The host is a massively annoying dork. Jesus.

  • A few good men

  • Great interview! Louis is a genius, and Travis Smiley is the best, most genuine host on television.

  • This was actually a really cool, smart interview.

Louis CK is great! The interviewer seemed really good as well.

  • invention of lying was awesome

  • I think the guy he was talking about being honest with about not liking him was Marc Maron, you can hear it on Marc's WTF podcast on iTunes, ck's been on a few times, but I think it was one from 10/2010

  • @iceman8067 I was thinking the same thing, but he has that sort of relationship with a few guys in NY with them proving to be intimate but sometimes proving volatile....

  • Great interview

  • This is awful

  • why is obama interviewing Louis CK?

  • @brentwhitehead

    Wow, that was clever..

  • If people were able to handle the truth, I would never lie.

  • Great host - so strange to see someone actually listening, and thinking about responses and their next question.

  • I've never seen CK as beautiful as he was in this interview, no homo. And I loved the fact that the interviewer was cracking at what Louie was saying, imagine if CK brought his funniest material

  • "I don't know if I should tell you that, right now." That's an awesome way to put it.

Anyway, I'm looking for the Louis CK bit, where he talks about how he lies all the time, and then tells the story about the guy who's late for his flight. And how he lies and says he's late for his too, just to shut the guy up. I saw it the other day but I can't find it. Anyone know where that one is?

  • I've always liked Louis CK, but the Invention of Lying was such a painfully bad movie to watch...

  • @slipperypete619 Yeah I thought so too. Louis's scenes were the only parts I liked. The movie itself just had too many things going on and wasn't very well put together.

  • @cmblack Though I thought it was interesting, the shoehorned-in love story made it fail... Also cool to see how lying can be an act of kindness in a cruel world for those not blessed with good genes, etc...

  • tavis smiley = dr. julius hibbert

  • When I didnt have cable for a while I discovered Tavis Smiley. He gets some powerhouse guests from so many different backrounds. Cant help but like his corny ass style.

  • I'm in love with him!

  • The rest of the interview is great too, esp when Louis talks about being called a "cracker." Good stuff.

  • lol Tavis Smiley just starts laughing at the drop of a hat. this is a very tame interview. it's pleasant though.

  • why is this guy going on and on about lying??? give louis some real material man. your giving him nothing to work with in this interview

  • @thegov08 This is PBS. Not Jay Leno with his lame "so you tell us about your new movie".

  • @thegov08

it's actually a pretty in depth topic when you think about it. It beats the hell out of just asking questions about a movie( was it fun making the movie? how was it working with so and so? typical lame host questions) , although the topic starts off by a movie. And Louis Ck makes it very interesting and puts a nice perspective on it, one that I never really thought about till I saw this. Even though our lies are so frequent, minor, common, and basic, they completely change our lives

  • I don't know how that host is but he's so pleasant and polite. I usually hate hosts they're so rude and invtrusive. Maybe because it's pbs? I don't know, but good interview!

  • Yeah I hear him on NPR quite a bit. He runs a great program and he's a great host.

  • @TheGoldWatch Tavis Smiley is awesome :) He is always great at interviewing people.

  • @TheGoldWatch yeah there is an interview with George Carlin also done by Travis Smiley. He is a good host.

  • @TheGoldWatch i agree. this host is a good and pleasant interviewer :-)

  • @TheGoldWatch Yeah first time seeing time seeing him. Very good host.

  • @TheGoldWatch Yeah also his questions aren't retarded like some hosts.

  • @TheGoldWatch Tavis is the Man, such a positive role model for Black people and just about everyone else!

  • One of the best science fiction novels of all time is "The Truth Machine" by James Halperin. It is free online at heritage coins. Those of you smart enough to take this post seriously and read the book will be immensely rewarded in the form of exciting new ideas. Also, "True Names" by Vernor Vinge is very interesting, if you want to expand on this conversation to the nth degree.

  • @libertarianjury thanks for that link, am going to download, print & read it

  • people don't like being told the truth, if you're always telling the truth and you have a lot of friends you're a boring person with boring thoughts

  • @boothesquirrel

or people want something from you, or they just dont listen to you in the first place.

  • 2:02 Swirlies = lying about things

  • this tavis guy is a proper suck up

  • wow who gave this guy a show? He's annoying.

  • wtf is louis ck doing on this show ?

  • Probably because he's promoting his movie "The Invention of Lying". I'm sure they got more into the movie afterwards but this is only a clip of the segment.

  • A Few Good Men!!! Damn it Smiley!!!

  • "There's a lot of old sayings, I think it was Mark Twain... just give everything to Mark Twain" lol so funny

  • truly brilliant.

  • cool comic (saw another at derekd2112 too)

  • he's honestly one of the smartest comedians of all times. the smartest of the current period, definitely.

  • damn this guy is pretty smiley. his name is appropriate

  • What movie is it? I wanna watch it.

  • The Invention of Lying

  • the invention of lying it's called

  • Can't wait to see this movie

  • Help!!!

  • Louis C.K. ♥

  • For the most part (not absolutely), in American Sign Language (ASL), there are not euphemisms. A person isn't pleasantly plump... he or she is fat. It's its own cultural norm.

  • Though because in sign language you can send two messages simultaneously - you can sign "ugly" and "fat" and "cute" and " fat" so the pleasantly plump is there or not.

Is not a language a series of euphemisms?

  • But then Louis brought it back to Hitler again, so it wound up being his show after all.
