if we excluded all the racial puritanism and just kept the domestic ideals, then I think we should replace our systems of capitalism with national socialism. Obviously theres an evil stigma attached to that ideology, but it doesnt have to be so.
i wont buy a fucking toyota because of all the advetising they do. its annoying everywgere you go toyotas right there. iim watching a hockey game toyota right there
Clearly the pancake story belongs on the news. People need to know about pancakes. It is vitally important that we are informed about the nutritional power of pancakes. Long live the pancakes!
@thejbx because... this is obviously the only solution to the problem, right? is it our fault? not entirely. even if TiVo and torrents never existed, the ads would still crop up. it's just far too lucrative and easy. calling for a ban on it, at least in the journalistic sense, seems well within the realm of rationality. maybe there's a compromise that can be struck, but in its current form i think it's unacceptable.
@swearinz the solution is making every channel pay tv (a la HBO). as someone who works in the TV / Film industry, I welcome that. The worst part of people not watching commercials anymore isn't product placement, it's reality TV. Reality TV has exploded in the last decade because it's trashy TV that get's lots of viewers and it's dirt cheap to produce. I say, make people pay for TV and they won't want to pay for 3 fucking shows about cakes. Quality TV will come back! :)
At least we will know what products are being used by people who are interviewed on the news and production costs may be reduced thanks to product placement.

I hate it as much as anyone, but all you people complaining about this have Tivo, commercial skip and torrents to thank for this.
TV shows have to get paid for somehow.

You want to see a TON and I mean a TON of product placement just watch King Of Queens. It's shamelessly blatant :)

I always knew there was something fishy about the Oreo fetish in "7th Heaven." I wonder how much does the US Dairy pay them as well?

@DANATANLOVER mmm... Oreos...

Wait... I didn't quite get the product placement on "24." What was it?

It mentions a cisco system protection system.
I'm assuming cisco sells firewalls and internet protection as well.

The worst of the lot were on the ill-fated MyNetworkTV telenovelas. They had all the subtlety of getting run over by a Mac truck!
