Perezhogin got blackballed by the NHL because of this. He was signed by Montreal through the 2006-07 season. When no one signed him, he went back to Russia.

It only shows a second of it, but Stafford actually crosschecks Perezhogin in the face which is how he fell to the ice. Stafford's swing does actually clip Perezhogin in the helmet which is why he spins. Regardless, he spend the next year in Russia making 5x as much money, then coming back to play for Montreal, and now back in Russia making quite a bit again, I doubt he is too worried about it at this point. Stafford too is completely fine and playing in the NHL.

Would have been cleared of all charges. It would have been a case of self defense. If Stafford connect on his own slash, it would have been Perezhogin doing the bacon on the ice.
Self defense mention that you retaliate in a appropriate matter to a threat to you. He responded with the exact same attemps.

Actually, Stafford's the one at fault here. It's just because Perezhogin's stick facial hit was the main part of the story. Stafford cross-checked Perezhogin in the face, and then tried to swing his stick at his head, but it hit the back of his helmet. Then Perezhogin retaliated by swinging his stick at Stafford's face.

The bad thing is that a retaliation shot is more often seen then an initial shot. Either way, Perezhogin was out of line and the Barons deserved to score twice off of that power play. Unfortunately for Stafford, he was still hung over and couldn't get to his feet on time. Had Stafford made contact with the first swing Perezhogin wouldn't be standing to retaliate. Stafford initiated the stick swinging and only got what he intended to give.

Stafford hit him from behind, crosschecked him in the face and took a baseball swing that luckily grazed Perezhogin's head. He's been suspended half a dozen times for high sticking incidents. He's been suspended several times since this incident for stick swinging.
Perezhogin had never been suspended. Perezhogin swung without looking at what should have been Staffords thigh at most.
Perezhogin got a year. Stafford got 6 games. Ref should have been suspended as well.

I know for a fact that Stafford was suspended at least once in the very next season for a high sticking incident. The newspaper wrote an article about what a dirty player he was after that suspension and listed a least a half dozen other suspensions. He has been suspended since as well. I tend to notice when his name pops up as the hypocrisy makes me laugh. Unfortunately, I have no idea where to look to find proof of this.

The AHL site has an archived history of all news, including suspensions, dating back to 2005. No mention of any Stafford issues there. In the season after the incident, the only year not covered by the archive, Stafford missed 12 games - 6 of them from the suspension. So you're telling me he was suspended 5 times that year for a total of 6 games? OurSportsCentral has an even bigger archive dating back earlier, and no mention of anything there either. Sorry, your info doesn't add up.

Jones' hit on Bergeron was nowhere near the same intent. That was a normal hockey play gone horribly wrong. This play was a classic example of why fighting is the best way for players to take out their anger.

Thank God, I saw little upside to this kid. He has a nice set of hands a grea shot, but limited hockey sense and takes game breaking hooking and holding penalties. Kostitsyn will replace him with much more natural talent and hockey sense.
