My heart soars when I hear this joyful sound. As another magnificent vocalist, Joe Lee Wilson, sings so well, "The Blues ain't nothin' - and I ain't got nothin' but the Blues!" Thanks for posting this, timmyj40.
I heard Joe W with Count Basie at Birdland in NY 1956. He was sitting at a table when Basie started Every Day and Joe entered the scene exactly in time. I came from Sweden that very day! What an experience!!!
This is killer music making. I love that huge Williams sound: big, ballsy vibrato all over the place, the Count grinning the orchestra over and swinging so bad. Thanks for this post!
Mentioned in "Black + White = Black" thought i'd check it out.

I remember seeing Joe at the Stair way to the stars on the west side of Chicago while I was in the Navy in 1950.

I have always loved the killer horn section on this version. Williams and Basie have made this blues standard uniquely their own.
