We are spinning her over with a motor to start, the first knocking is the decompressor gear. Second knocking after starting is fuel, took a bit of working out to get things right.
A uniflow diesel, which requires a resonant exhaust stack to work properly otherwise it would choke on its own exhaust gases- I'd imagine it's a pain to get the exhaust stack tuned just right.
Thats right, we have the correct length for the exhaust for when we install her properly. She ran surprisingly well on the short stub.
This particular design is special because it only uses crankcase compression when starting (manually operated valve), when running the tuned length exhaust creates a partial vacumn in the cylinder drawing fresh air in.
sounds like a lanz bulldog
