This phone is pretty awesome though, all of my customers tend to enjoy it. I personally use a regular smartphone, but I do miss having the regular keypad / buttons of a normal phone as we all know touchscreen for typing sometimes sucks
If you have'nt known yet the downer to this phone is that it uses battery even when it's off.
It happens to most japanese smartphones. But you can swich the phone to eco mode which uses less batterys unfortunately you have to charge your phone every day..
How would one go about purchasing one of these if they're ever released in UK or US? Also, would you be able to use the phone with different carriers?
The phone is really impressive. I don't really need 16mp and 3D. If they could make the same phone but with a 5MP camera but cheaper that would be awesome. ... and obviously, with the possibility to be unlocked.
every single japan domestic market phone with world wing GSM has been FCC approved. it has nothing to do with international sales, it is so that the phone can be legal used in the US / overseas.
i own both a 1810C and a 930SH (same phone, different markets) so i know they differ, and the difference is pretty big. also have a SH-10C now ^_^ pretty dam impressive phone :D
@surruk Wonder if you can answer a question for me - I am generally tech savvy but don't know anything about importing phones. Is it possible to use this phone outside of Japan? If I was to import one, would I be able to unlock it & use it on UK networks?
japanese phones are not easy to software unlock. softbank phones as a general rule of thumb CANNOT be unlocked through use of software, they require a hypersim and as a result will only work on GSM networks, though they should work on any such network in the world with the right hypersim.
recently DOCOMO has begun unlocking phones on request for 3000 yen. this only applies to phones launched on of after march 2011. many functions are still not usable outside japan including internet
long answer short, the 007SH will make phone calls and send SMS in the UK, but 3G and data will not work. HOWEVER!!!! if there is a docomo equivalent (which i expect in the winter) it WILL be unlock able and with it running andriod it should be possible to get downloadable APN changing apps from the app store to get the internet working.
if the 007SH was unlock able i would have one. instead i just bought a SH-10C, a phone of identical hardware but not andriod and is unlocked from DOCOMO.
@surruk Many thanks, I've been looking for info about importing Japanese phones generally and appreciate your comments. Have found some useful threads on Howard Forums & a good post on DarkMirage's blog. I've had a look at the SH-10C and I actually like the styling better than the 007SH. Sadly I guess neither is good for me at the moment, as I would need a 3G data connection & tethering to my laptop (for work). I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope for a docomo 007SH :)
no worries. howard forums is the best place to look so its good you have found it. i found out that the 007SH works (with 3G) on my telco here in australia so i might be selling my sh-10C soon. it will be going for 500-600 USD so keep an eye on the forums for that if you are interested. good luck and i hope you find something you like soon ^_^
@surruk I would *love* an SH-10C but I gather because of the APN issue I wouldn't be able to get 3G internet on it. :( Real shame, the look & features of that phone are just awesome, wish it was Android. Oh well... thanks for getting me started, I'm on howardforums now (VanBurenPhilips)
It should be point out that those sharp smart phone sold in china is obviously spec-downed. Meaning we still may never get those impressive device in japan.
the china model isnt so much "specked down" as almost 2 years old. but i agree with you, the chance of getting japan domestic market phones here in Australia, or anywhere else in the world for that matter is slim. at least with the docomo unlock thing we can have pretty much anything from their upcoming line ^_^ i am getting a SH-10C in a few weeks ^_^
@surruk But what make the thing even wroser is this phone is released with softbank.....and btw to see how china model different from japan one compare sharp's 7218u with sh01b and you would probably get the differences...btw the phone 007sh is approved by FCC meaning it is quite probably appear in western world later...
Seriously guys, japanese phones are waaaaay better than the rest... 3D, awesome cameras, epic design.... It kinda sucks that im now living in germany and cant buy one of those...
Seriously, the phones in East Asia, especially Japan and South Korea are AMAZING! There's such a huge market out their and some of their handsets are so much more advanced than over in Europe/America.
