1) Get really into a band with a great bassist - you'll want to learn their songs and the music will speak to you and it'll give you lot's of inspiration

2) Devote yourself to bass. Seriously. I play at least 2/3 hours a day. It takes commitment if you want to progress quickly

3) Join a band. It really helps

4) Internet TABS are great if they're good. So print and play

5) Practice makes perfect. So practice a lot (fyi: blisters hurt, but you'll get over it)
