Also you have to consider 2 things: 1. The lands of California and Texas, were already largely colonized and developed, and at a large part for its time. 2. The resources those lands held to the US, and how much it helped the US grow.

If so, it is not mentioned in anything I can find. No history I have read mentions it as a Spanish colony, territory, or protectorate - unlike Guam. Everything I have read has info about Britain's Captain Cook "discovering" it and the American influence and interference while Hawaii was still a monarchy. If you have book or publication to recommend that states differently, I would be happy to review it. Spain did not cede Hawaii as part of the Spanish-American War settlement. Read the treaty.

That's why the Union Jack was put in Hawaiian flag to honour us British.

Also you have to consider 2 things: 1. The lands of California and Texas, were already largely colonized and developed, and at a large part for its time. 2. The resources those lands held to the US, and how much it helped the US grow.
