you know i sometimes go through you tube trying to get games with Magic in it. I mean some of the stuff this guy did was just amazing then. Thank you for the users who upload stuff with Magic Johnson. And thank you YouTube for having videos like this then here then here
These Lakers were primed to become the first team since the 60's Celtics to threepeat but Pat Riley, worried his team would lose its rhythm, overworked them during their prolonged wait before the Finals resulting in injuries to Magic and Byron Scott. Lakers fans will never forgive him for that.
Does anyone have Game 1 of this series. Very entertaining game, with some great open court play.....Corbin jams one on Woolridge. Worthy, after getting his shot blocked by West, comes down the next time & jams on him with authority, then stares at him. It was a classic.
The Suns were scary that year. I knew my Lakers would win the series but I didn't think they would sweep them! That was the last game Byron Scott would play that season. (injured in practice) Then Magic's hamstring and you the rest. Oh, what could've been.
Absolutely. I will argue until I'm dead that the '89 Lakers would've beaten the Pistons if Magic and Scott didn't get hurt. They were ROLLING into those Finals...and yet the last three games were ALL nailbiters. It's too bad...but Showtime's line of demarcation was basically this game.
Wow, look at the speed and fundamentals. Everyone has a post game with footwork instead of just face up and shoulder driving to the hoop, and EVERYONE can move without the ball.
NBA needs less teams. The talent is getting too watered down.
Well said BACON,expansion has done just as much damage to pro basketball,as the 3 point line moved in,no physical defense etc.,etc.Expansion has really hurt pro sports
This was the last time that great '89 Lakers team played together.

Not to take anything away from Lakers of the 80s but in 89 for once they got to see what it was like to feel snake bitten.

@rainrunner1 Umm...they lost McAdoo, and Nixon for the '83 Finals against Philly. And no Worthy with a broken leg...so it wasn't the first time.

Two things happened that sunk
the Lakers that year. Magic shaved his beard and the Fabulous Forum became The Great Western Forum. Lakers were never the same.

Yeah, both teams were so crisp and fluid, like symphonies. The ball movement and body movement were outstanding, along with the technical precision.
