I always liked this scene- it seemed so real as if the cast was really saying bye to their colleague who was leaving the set. Not to mention I love the tune of waltzing maltida pretty much.
Wathing this episode I got tears in my eyes because of the sad ending, Now I get tears in my eyes reading that this actor really died So sad!!!! Does anyone knows what happende en how old he was?
@08SweetSunshine Seriously- what for? It ended as it should have, leaving the rest fopen for interpretaion. I say no, though I dsid like the show. It would be pointless to have a movie. Why do you want to have more of the same? It was good but it ended and it is how it should be.
Yes exept Trevor wasn't Australian, when born in Croydon England (and then having lived in England most of your life until you move to LA ) means you're English lol But it was a nice ending none the less.
Owning all ten seasons it's almost hard to believe this is only season five. Five years later at the end of the series the only real major change is that the Admiral retired (and another happy thought is that Lt. Bitch is dead!). Even though I love the show they were smart to go off the air rather than ruining the series with major, inevitable changes, like with what's happened to "Law and Order" over the years.
I love that JAG paid respect to Hollywood's most underrated actor of all time. Trevor Goddard truly was one of the funniest and most talented actors that ever lived. I'm almost brough to tears when I see this because it is such a fitting tribute.
this scene was sad when it aired because mic was leaving the show. now it's even more sad because in a way it's a tribute to the actor trevor goddard.
I can't help but wonder if the song was not scripted... You'd think if it was rehearsed at all Harm and Bud wouldn't have disagreed on the "And he sand as he sat, and (he) waited 'til his billy boiled". Or perhaps the disagreement was to lend an element of realism to it.
It's such a shame he died. He never could nail the Aussie accent though. Good enough to fool the USA audiences I guess but to us Australians it sounded like a drunk Aussie pretending to be a pom. RIP
So sad...I saw the 5th season episode first and then when they played this scene after his death...almost one right after the other. I had no idea he had passed.
It's a great tribute to our faithful allies, the Australians (even though Trevor was English). It would be similar to the Aussies singing Yankee Doodle or America the Beautiful in tribute to an American, though we have no true comparison.
A great tribute, missing from TV today. My heart goes out to his family. RIP Trevor..
@JokeeGA5 I was an on vacation in Boston in 2003 when I opened the Herald and read of his passing. Put me in a sour mood the rest of the morning. Saw Pirates of the Caribbean a month or so later. Seeing him was bittersweet. Ironically when reading of his death I thought of this scene. I wish they'd said Brumby passed away or something. Really show their respect by mourning his character as well
@SG1Mitchell No I saw that but I have long hated when fictional characters are never heard from or discussed again. I think they could have had an episode where 'Mac' learns 'Brumby' died of something and is really broken up
I felt so badly for the actor and man...he he co stars on one of the top 50 shows of the later 21 century....and he felt he couldn't get a break in his career! KInda why some of us feel suicide is the only way out!
He left JAG because his posting in Washington was over, and he was recalled back to Australia. Happens all the time, believe me. I've been in the navy for 4 years and I've served on 4 different ships and on both coasts already.
A quick answer for you all. The scene originally aired when Trevor Goddard (Mic) left the show. It was re-aired at the end of a later episode as after his death as a tribute to him. The text from the later episode includes an In Memory of line. And for the Australian who doesn't know how he feels. Its a Military show, showing a mutual respect for people of two allied countries serving together, and its used very respectfully. There's bigger trees to bark up these days
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
being australian, im not sure if i like it or not an american program using this song for their program, i mean its a tribute but then i dont like the american take on it. just my feelings on it
Unfortunately, yes. Wikipedia reports that he was found dead in his home in Los Angeles, California on June 7, 2003. It also says that the autopsy showed he died from a drug overdose of heroin and cocaine. His death was ruled accidental.
When I just learned he was dead, I was hoping that it was at least something beyond his control like cancer or aids.
There something special about these "old" TV shows like JAG. The characters are so close, the cast is well tied together and when a character leaves the show, the audience can just cry their eyes out (just like in the scene where Harm leaves JAG to fly an F-14)
Perfectly done, filled to the top with emotions and sadness... And the song just rulez
I was really, really surprised how much this scene got to me. I thought about what it would have been like to be Brumby and to be leaving Mac. I think it would have been extraordinarily difficult emotionally. This was a really well-done scene and spoke well of the writers of the story and their understanding of the dynamics which were going on.
I have this episode on video cassette, only as he is walking away they had added text. From what I gather, the man who played that character had died?
Yes, there was text when they showed this scene. However, it wasn't when this episode originally aired, it was a later episode after Trevor Goddard died. This scene was added to the end of an episode and they paide tribute to Trevor Goddard
I love this song. It would make a good anthem for us Australians, I think. I did notice, however, that they made a few lyric mistakes and one melody mistake. Other than that, a touching scene (even though I was not keen on Brumby's character).
This was such a wonderful scene. You could tell Trevor was showing real emotion when they sung that song for him,. Even though he wasn't really australlian, he was really moved. The way he just walked off into the darkness and the music still playing almost brought a tear to my eye. R.I.P Trevor; the most underrated actor of all time.
i love the harmony between bud and harm at the very beginning it's an amazing part and the instumental at the end is beautiful...an amazing song overall
and he sang as he "sat" ? if this was for me i'd interrupt and say "very nice and all, but please start again with 'watched' instead of' sat'..." hahaha
I loved this episode. It was great how they sang this at the end for him. I wish he could have stuck around on the show longer but the character was great.
Thanks so much for posting this - I saw this show this morning and the song is stuck firmly in my head.. I had to see this once more, just to enjoy it!
It does sound kinda weird sung in American accents- but this is stil one of my fav JAG scenes of all time! I cried the first time I saw this. Trevor Goddard will be sorely missed- RIP.
that is an amazing song and after i found out about his death it brings tears whenever i rewatch it... Brumby was an idiot but he is part of JAG and will be missed greatly...
I'm not Australian nor a Yank but I sing it. This song extends international boundaries and culture. It is a song about fighting for your freedom .."You'll never take me alive..." the swagman declared before he dove to his death. He gave more importance to his freedom over his life. This should have been the Australian National Anthem but who am I to impose if the Australians practised their freedom in a form of referendum? As the Yanks would say.. "Live Free or Die!".
this song is sung by us at footy matches, etc ... it goes above national politics, we nearly had it as our national anthem but the govt of the day chose advance aust fair because it was LESS political, the song has its roots in the huge shearers strike of the 1880s which brought australian industry to its knees, hence the song is probably too left leaning for a very conservative australia ... we tend to hide out left wing side under a stump, but its always there, in our deeper selves
yeah... striking is a right wing concept. The people doing what's necessary for themselves, not counting on governments to settle things which is the premise of left wing politics.
I am glad that Australia has allies such as the United States ... where would we be if we didn't?
