As the father of two sons with autism, one non-verbal, I just wanted to say thanks. Cure vs. changing who our kids are… a paradox we all face as parents. My two boys are the happiest two kids you will ever meet. The trick is to change the world (acceptance) so that this special part of them never changes.
You are my hero i am a mother of 4 from ages 6 to 1 and my son is 2 he has autism i have struggled since day one i only hope to be as strong as you one day!
my son is autistic and when he has a meltdown his therapist recommended a compression weight vest to calm him- it really helps- we found one by nyknyc
If you have an autistic person in your life you need to watch this amazing story. It will give you hope and happiness . This is a story written by Barb Rentenbach who was discovered to have autism at the age of 2. In her words she said that those around her looked at her as retarded and she even believed it until many years later she was given a keyboard . She is now 36 and has 2 books in publication . She has touched my life and I hope she touches yours . look for Barb Rentenbach on youtube.
dam its bad my cousin is 12 n he cant speak properly he he gets upset over noise or when hes hungryn its really sad also tht we'll never hear him speak n that so its very dissapointing. but on the plus side when hes happy he is wonderful.
@Ejadem123 yes, they DO have a different kinda speak... my sons actually got me talkin more of his language instead of "normal"....but i guesss i had it in me all along and it just took someone like him to open ME UP TO IT!!!!!:))))
Lets not be afraid, of difference. Autism is not an illness, it's part of the identity of many people. My autistic son and his friends with ASD have taught me so much. I wish I had known this at the start of the journey. I am humbled by my son's courage, insight and love. God did not make a mistake. The mistake is in thinking it is that. It must be awful to spend your life , with everyone trying to fix you. Enjoy what you have, dear friends. We are all just passing through!
@nagaempress Yes, that's right-why do all kids need to be "normal". Is this so our children can become mindless sheeple? I get so unnerved by ignoramuses who say that children on the Autism Spectrum are "mentally retarded". The severity and intensity vary so much from kid to kid that to just group them into one bunch and write them off, is narrow. Also cannot stand when people reference "Einstein" constantly. Not every child with autism will be recognized as a genius-even if they are.
i've been watching videos like this so i can understand what autism is...my 8 year olf brother is autisitic but i dont understand how :/ he seems pretty normal to me,i think he's very organised, and very smart he seems to remember everything o.o i notice things like how he doesnt look people in the eye and communicates slowly...im only 13 so i just dont quite understand yet..he seems fine to me. he did used to have therapy for speech though when he was younger
this is very heartbreaking for me, my 11 year old brother has a pretty severe case of autism. I am one year older than him, and i hate when people give us strange looks when he screams. he can't communicate well. he can answer simple questions, say good night, etc. people need to respecct people with autism. they can't control their disorder. my brother is an inspiration and is very intelligent. I will pray for all of you sick people who make fun of people who are disabled.
there is this camp in Alvin TX that kids 8-12 can attend. It is specially for the kids that has a illness, a lost of a parent, or a disability, the kids stay in a dorm with ac for a week and have tons of fun if anybody want to no more send me a message and i will give all the information please contact me before April 212011 thanks

Thank you for sharing. My son was diagnosed at around age 9. I was the Director of Education and one of my teachers said "Mrs. Tramble I want to share something with you if it's ok" I said yes and that was the beginning of the journey. He is now 18 and graduating high school. We have mixed emotions, however, so grateful that he made it this far. Of course we seek a cure and yet as you stated we embrace the uniqueness of the essence of them. God is faithful. Thank God for these gifts.
My 14 yrs old boyfriend his name is Andrew. Andrew has Autism & Down Syndrome. Because Andrew has a Down Syndrome Face & Andrew can't speak that many words.

@mexicanmansam it is NOT a mental illness. It is a neurological difference, the brain is wired differently.
