  • Muito bom... Rach é muito foda

  • Ashkenazy can sound a little slow, but his tone, phrasing and passion are perfect here.....only let down by a poorly tuned piano .

  • fabulous Fabio the pianist!

  • ashkenazy plays rachmaninoff amazingly

  • Pure unadulterated genius.

  • Amazing!Another heart stopping piece....(¸.•¨¯`*•●♥Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ♥...

  • wow that quality is amazing...

  • I'm mad cause I can't put this entire piece on my ipod...

For some reason the second movement won't synchronize it when I download it from youtube...

  • I have this CD and it NEVER leaves my car! Every selection is beautifully played and executed by Ashkenazy. Bravo!

  • I have Ashkenazy playing this much faster on my iphone when i listen in the car, I prefer this slower version!!!! Captures the emotion better at this speed, and its not like its slow and dragged out either.

  • Wow, what a great CD buy. I'm definitely picking up that version next time I get a chance. And on the subject of @Therachh3 's implication that the piece is much like Grieg's Piano concerto I would like to contribute: I have known well and loved this piece for quite some time, and I strongly believe that it differs greatly enough from Grieg's for me to think of the very beginning of the piece is simply an appropriate allusion.

Buy both scores, and I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised.

  • @TheHollowRod I was wondering about that actually for a while and really cannot see a resemblance with Grieg's piano concerto.

  • @doomownage94 This is the composer's revised version of the concerto. If you listen to the original version the influence of the Grieg concerto is very clear.

  • FABULOSO!

  • this is sooo greig ...and very much rachmaninoff too

  • I just wondered, since I haven't quite figured out yet ...

Is it just me or does the new section @ 3:04 sound very much like something Gershwin would have used later? I'm just so strongly reminded of Gershwin there, yet I can't put my finger on it exactly. Many thanks for any illumination, cheers :)

  • A bit slow in my opinion.

  • @JosephKrammer

I also think it's a bit slow but it's nice as it is.

  • @FabioThePianist It's definitely great the way it is, I'm just accustomed to a faster tempo for this particular piece I guess :) Thanks a lot for sharing!

  • @JosephKrammer

I also think it's a bit slow but it's nice as it is.

  • @FabioThePianist

    I agree with you!

I like to enjoy different styles ;)

This one particularly is beautiful as it is

  • @FabioThePianist personally I like the slower tempo. it gives you all the longer to savour the harmonies.

  • @FabioThePianist Is Fabio your first name?

And if it is, did you play Rachmaninoff's 3rd Concerto in Buffalo, New York?

  • @franzliszt8 Nice to meet you Franz, yes Fabio is my first name but I never playd the 3rd Concerto, but I hope I will :P

  • yay Ashkenazy!

  • A masterpiece. Not much more can be said...

  • Drastic change at 3:57... This concerto has such a power...!

  • such noble playing

  • This is magnificent playing in every sense. He had so much musical flair and brilliance in around 1971 when this was recorded. I heard him many times and have always been an enormous fan.He is so special with Rachmaninov.
