I agree full extension actually allows for a bigger Kip and makes the muscle up easier....Im 255 pounds and can do muscle ups so believe me when I tell you full extension is much easier..crossfit wants full extension its a win win
Yeah what happens when you do that near t2b at the bottom actually dramatically decreases the distance for your center of gravity to travel and this the amount of work it takes. i dunno if its legal or not but its kinda cheap in my books. still fuckin impressive though good job!
it's weird cause usually in muscle up videos the guys r buff as hell, this guy doesn't look like he can do what he does. Kudos for the strength just wondering why the physical difference.
@yankeez99 its because he's not that big that he can do it as its a body weight exercise as a 150kg guy has to be twice as strong (if not a bit more to compensate for the things that you cant really train) as a 75kg guy to do the same thing
While I applaud the level of skill it takes to even do what you did here, The fact that you are relying on so much momentum takes away from it. I think it would be more impressive to see you do your max with "cleaner" form (locking legs out, less kip etc). I will look forward to future videos, cheers and keep training hard.
fucking haters this fool is a beast and this method looks way harder then any muscle up variations ive seen yet, muscle ups on bars are easier. i learned on a bar before i could even get close to doing it on rings. so keep hating hater, i garuntee none of you can do this muscle up let alone x30 in 2:59
No...a muscle up is an A level skill performed in men's gymnastics on rings all the time. And actually many people learn these om bars before rings. Same difficulty, just in slightly different ways.
@ParkourAmour Actually, it is easier for me to do on bar because my hands DON'T move around freely. On rings, it takes extra effort to maintain your false grip. By the way, I am the guy in the video and on bar I have done this same workout in 20 seconds less.
Full Body Extension where the Feet are BELOW the Hips (+/- 5 degrees), and the arms are extended straight above with no/minimal swinging set the cg (center of gravity) of the body as low as possible while still holding the rings...
I believe the exercise is to strengthen/test in the most beneficial, repeatable, and standardized way, where the shoulders go from lowest possible position to highest possible position...
The farther you suspend down, the more work required to raise up...
Granted, 'kipping' uses more muscles (core), but a straight 'standardized' Muscle Up will stress the essential muscles more, and require noticeably more energy (and time) to do the same number of reps...
Letting go and resting is like cheating, even if for seconds... Tensioned muscles, even if hanging, requires more fitness/energy...
Disagree that it is CrossFit standards. Your kip has dramatically decreased the work load of the muscle-up, reducing the work capacity that CrossFit is based on. Now if you had the rings at 8 feet, extended your whole body at the bottom and then kipped your way up would it still take 3 minutes?
What are CF standards then? Does anyone know? I heard they were full arm extension as well as turning the rings slightly outward at the bottom.
Its an interesting question which ways takes more energy. My kip would be even more powerful if I let my entire body down. It would also take far less full body tension. So which method would take more work? I don't have the answer.
Regardless, I think my time would be about the same with either technique. Maybe I will try so we can get some answers.
@ApexMovement Great effort! I know these wouldn't have counted at the CrossFit Games and yes haters, I did compete this year. You weren't allowed to kip from an inverted position like in this vid. It is definitely harder and more work to go from full extension with a turn out at the bottom and also harder if you have to jump up to the rings like we had to at the Games.
And yes Angelssuckass I can do it faster. search "biggdavet"

Nice, thanks for posting the vid, also do the let people complain about using the L sit as a Kip per the affiliate cups and the x-fit games they said that kipping was OK (same argument as why a kipping pullup is ok) all you needed was full elbow estension on the bottom and you had that. That is very awesome
Guys i heard something about that a muscle up is not confirmed if knees are higher than head anytime. Can anybody confirm this myth?
BTW nice tempo on them muscle ups, u make it look easy.

theres no way that guy could have done 30 on a bar.. cuz its harder..both his hands have the liberty to move around when hanging from rings

Just based on the physics learned in high school,
Full Body Extension where the Feet are BELOW the Hips (+/- 5 degrees), and the arms are extended straight above with no/minimal swinging set the cg (center of gravity) of the body as low as possible while still holding the rings...
I believe the exercise is to strengthen/test in the most beneficial, repeatable, and standardized way, where the shoulders go from lowest possible position to highest possible position...

This makes for the greatest 'Work' required.
(simplified) Work=Mass*HeightMoved...
