the above verse doesn't deny in any way that man has an immaterial nature.

@shoe6464 Yes, the soul is the body + breath of life (spirit). It's like an equation. You can't have one without the other or there is no life. So yes, when the physical body dies the soul is dead.

In this passage it's impossible for "souls" to refer to living beings, for then the text would read, "I saw underneath the alter the living beings of those who had been slain??

Notice that the souls exist and are conscious despite the fact that they had been physically slain. we know that the souls are conscious because they "cry out." That which is unconscious cannot cry out or be spoken to.

Since these souls had been physically slain and since they are obviously conscious in Gods presence doesn't that indicate that they have an immaterial nature that survived their physical slaying (death)?

It doesn't make any sence for Jesus to commend His "wind" to the Father. or his body as it was in the grave for three days.

Its seems clear from a plain reading of the passage that Jesus is committing His human immaterial soul to the father.

Act 7:59 And as they were stoning Stephen, he called out, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.

This verse would make no sense if we interpret "spirit" as simply the life-force within Stephen that ceased to exist at the moment of his death. Why would Stephen ask Jesus to "receive" that which was about to cease to exist. He is clearly asking Jesus to receive and take to Himself that part of his self that would survive the death of his physical body.
