I do not think people understand what is being done. In a fight it is beneficial to YELL commands. It is a psychological technique. If you have not learned the psychology of Ninjutsu, then your art is lacking. Police utilize these techniques also in terms of telling the aggressor to get down on the ground etc while fighting.

Why yell anything ? If they wore the full uniform (mask included ) they would be invisible and know would see them to be able to attack . Then they could yell "Hey , I'm over here!" then throw a smoke bomb and disappear . When I was 13 and wore my costume to the mall , however , I was quite disappointed to learn that I was not invisible , and I wondered then why I was subsequently attacked . Now i know .

This is To Sin Do, a modern form of Ninjutsu, the reason we yell out "stoppit" and things like that in the dojo is because if a real assault were to occur and you're the defender, people will know you're being attacked because you're yelling things like "stop" or "back off" and "stay away" instead of cussing at your adversary. There's a lot of roleplay in TSD and it can get pretty funny sometimes but it's also an extremely effective martial art and I recommend it to everyone.

This is an adaptation of Kiaijutsu. The instructore has just replaced the Japanese Hi-yah!, Aiyah!, Eeee-yah!, or Hyah! with the English phrase stoppit! to get the same effect.
