I've had one of these for about 3 yrs now. it always took many tries to light it. non of my friends could get it to light. bought new fluid and flints and nothing changed (both zippo products). And ended up stop using it for awhile cause i thought butane and flint is just a bad combination and it's never going to reliable. randomly found it few days ago went to get new flint, store didnt have zippo brand so i got a different brand recommneded by owner. Wow! now it just works fine on one flick!

Anyone know if the ones on eBay are like factory overruns or something from Zippo? I bought a normal Zippo lighter off eBay and there are a few minor cosmetic issues, much like the ones you described in this video. It could be that this is one that failed Zippo's QC for cosmetic stuff, but still worked just fine. It wouldn't surprise me, and I'd be fine buying factory overruns, I'd just like to be made aware that they are overruns. Anyone know anything about this?

That torx screw on the bottom is just security version of the torx. You can get the tools to remove them on Amazon. They look just like the normal ones, they just have a dimple on the ends.

I understand your concern about the pricing but it's much more modern than the traditional zippo lighter, and it is constructed in a more sophisticated fashion. It is a cigar lover's dream come true as the flame is concentrated making it ideal for cigar lighting.

I've ordered a Shure SM58 microphone on ebay, it looked real with all the documentation, box, manuals, warranty cards, carrying case with the engraved Shure logo, literally perfect copy - it didn't till it broke and I took it to an AV shop to be looked at they took it apart and it was all cheap, crappy components inside. It is very possible this lighter is a fake if it was cheaper than official resellers.

I find the cheaper lighters with a lot of reviews and buy 2 or 3 because they sometimes break. it takes about 2 weeks for the items to arrive at my house in illinois because they are shipped from china so if you are impatient then go somewhere else. its a slow but reliable company.

You got a defected on. Mine works perfectly fine. It lights up on the first try, and the flame is high. Also the lid is perfect, and sits very well. There was no "break in period" needed. I like the idea of an adjustable flame, but it's perfect. Sorry to hear you weren't lucky man.

a quick tip on avoiding the multiple light attempts - don't understand it, but when mine does that for one or two failed light attempts, if i shake it once, a quick flip, it lights on the next attempt. FWIW

Had plenty of 'jet flame' lighters, and just recently i have read instruction for one of them, apparently you need to remove air from the system after filling them? How why and why would air be in the system i do not know.

Original zippos are great, but The BLU are much better for cigars where that lighter fluid taste can taint the quality tobacco. Also The high temperature from the torch lighters are much better for getting an even light on a good cigar. Especially outdoors..

these are reliable. i have one. you need to hold the flint-wheel down for a second or two to release some gas so when you strike it, the sparks have something to catch on. i hope this helps

I had a lot of flame size inconsistency when I first got my Blu (Date code A 08). The lighter would put out a short flame some of the time and a really tall one at other times. I complained and sent it to Zippo and they replaced my insert with a new one (insert date code C 11). This made it a usable and even great lighter. Now the flame is always the same height and it is very consistent. I heard that Zippo revised the insert somewhere around 2010-2011. This I think is a big improvement
