  • Sad to see that good locomotives are sitting and rotting away like this and meanwhile, we're importing steam locomotives along with all the other crap we get from China. Why can't we restore what we have here first before importing something we don't need?? What's sad is that 6218 has been sitting there longer than the three QJs in the USA have even been around (they were built in the mid-80s).

  • A very sad ending to a great locomotive. Would that it restored and put in excursion service!

  • i've been inside this one a few times. everything in the cab is there. if you placed it on tracks, you could probably get it going again. Coincidence that there are tracks near by

  • that old girl would fell apart 100ft down the rails, she's all there but in really bad shape

  • Interesting video and it is good to see something being done rather than let it deteriorate!

  • just throwin this out there...what about a joint international venture with the NRHS and Western New York Railway Historical Society and similar Canadian organization to get this beauty up and steaming locally again? just throwing that into the melting pot..

  • I never got to see her running in real life, she was left to rot long before I was born.I agree she needs a roof and some TLC at least. CN or someone needs to step up and get a couple of these classics running again and im not talking about switch engines. 6069,6218,6167,6077 and the list could go on.

  • I have fond memories of 6218's last visits and photos of her last overhaul in the Stratford Shops. She should be refurbished and reinstated into service along the lines of CP's 2816. There must be a market for her somewhere. Also, it is scandalous to see the condition of 6117 in Guelph!! She, along with 6218 and 6213 on the CNE grounds in Toronto should be rehabilitated before it's too late!

  • Lets not forget 6200 in Ottawa! Did you work or CN in the steam/diesel transition era?

  • No, I was a kid when she last visited in 1970 or so. It was always a great thrill to hear that steam whistle inside your house - you knew exactly what locomotive was coming to town!

  • 6213 was well kept by a group of volunteers while she was at cne, im pleased to tell you that the TRHA (toronto railway Hertiage association) has moved 6213 to the former CP john street roundhouse and we hope to restore her to run,

  • I really wish something better would be done than having it sit out there. I strongly agree with both you guys, but the museum staff don't sound willing to do anything better for it. I heard someone put an idea form into the museum on making the engine run again, and his return was a negative paragraph from the person running the general contacts. The same time, "helojockey" took down his 6218 video and reposted another in a negative format.

Nothing was hurtful, the comback was just negative :(

  • I gotta agree with np560. Although the museum recently said a refurbishment, it really meant a coat of paint and interior checkup. I contacted the museum staff on a better use for the engine, and the contact person came back negative.

Really, if these people aren't meant to do anything proper with the engine WE must... but I wouldn't know how, except think of a fanbase force together on making the engine breathe again. But again, I'm a citizen with no hopes of getting far in this battle.

  • I rode many miles behind this engine in the 1960s. Lots of fun to ride behind her. She should be running, not sitting. Like "amtraklover" said, she should be under a roof and not out in the open.

  • yes , i certainly agree the 6218 should be looked after

  • Tell me about it. I recently contacted the museum and gave an idea form and how to make the engine work again. The ideas were pretty useful, but the staff person running the email contacts rejected it very negatively. The same time "helojockey" removed his 6218 video and posted another in a negative manner of those who had ideas and tries to clear the misconception. It sucks today, they are not willing to do anything, except give it a new coat of paint and an interior checkup.

  • they really should build a roof over this locomotive. Too bad it's not running
