Perhaps the " Old Hippies " in Berkeley give #4449 a break when they recall themselves, their brothers, or their friends running smoking ( non-cannibus ) Lionel, American Flyer, or Marx steamers back in the 50s & early 60s. Besides, the Daylight Scheme rivals any decorations they placed on a Volkswagen van!

though the quality of the video footage may have degraded with age, after all it was probably shot on magnetic tape back in 1984, the beauty of this baby certainly has not gone away. glad to see some of the old footage still around

There's something funny I noticed about footage of 4449's marslight.

The older the footage, the faster the marslight flashes.

The newer the footage, the slower it flashes.

I wonder why?

@ThomasRivette because the mars light ws bieng used so much over the years if u were moing in a figure 8 pattern ever since 1976-2009 u would slow down and wear out too haha

In that case you should have the 4449 and the 700 trade whistles because I like the sound of 4449's 1984 whistle.

2 things: 1- I would highball it thru Berkely myself just to get away from that place. 2- I'm suprised there were no protesters complaining that the 4449 was too loud and smokey to pass thru their perfect little town.
