  • He was well ahead of his time his humour almost seems modern when i heard a friend singing this i thought it would be a youtuber originally singing i was so surprised to see its from the 50s originally

  • Excellent! But I must wonder... has PETA gotten to see this yet?

  • Not sure who came up with the frame-in idea, but it's nice. Bought my DVD. Thanks

  • This video is now out on DVD. Please read the updated video description or visit the channel page!

  • I am blown away by how skilled a performer he was :)

  • awesome!!!!!!!!!!!

  • All the twelve Tom Lehrer songs from this channel have now been republished in better quality. Click the Lehrer icon or the username, go to the channel and select one of the uploaded HQ-versions :-) Don't forget to click the HQ-button.

  • I'm thinking of covering this song; a live recording of me actually poisoning pigeons at my local square. What do you guys say, would it be up to Lehrer's legacy?

  • glun, oh please do, and be kind enough to give this channel (6funswede - The Tom Lehrer Wisdom Channel) a hint. Bring your iPhone and play Lehrer's song in the background...

  • I was listening and am slightly confused. I listened to this one, and at one point he says 'maybe we'll do in a squirrel or two, but I have also heard, 'maybe we'll do in a sparrow or two'?

  • ScougeOfTheNight, yes, this is true, he used "sparrow" and "squirrel" in different versions. Lehrer would sometimes change and update parts of the lyrics to his songs, and you'll find more examples on the channel if you know the old versions well :-)

  • He is a pure genius, have you got rickety tickety tin? and the one with the periodic table he does? Thanks for uploading these, they're awesome!

  • @OpaleyedWolf

"Rickety Tickety Tin" is actually called "The Irish Ballad" and "The Periodic Table" is actually called "The Elements". You can search them but I don't think this user did them. I haven't found them by this user. But there are good versions out there. Hope this helps! Good luck finding good versions.

  • @DoctorWhoovian, yes, there are good versions, but they are not published by me. Truth be told, I decided to only post videos with Lehrer performing LIVE on video, which is something nobody believed that they would ever see. That changed in 2007. As an avid Lehrer fan and enthusiast I would also like to say thank you to anybody who will click on my rather stupid username and visit this dubious Lehrer-only YouTube channel.

  • @6funswede

  • my choir director would sing this song to my choir every now and again i just love it!!

  • great song

  • I staryed loving these songs not long ago when my english teacher played this one, thanks mr warwick!!

  • and now again: it's springtime. Let's do it !!! A very true and graet song, thanks.

  • palmede1, thanks. Now that it's spring and YouTube released their new app for mobile phones I would want people with iPhones or Windows Media or Symbian phones to go to the park, play the video outdoors and feed the pigeons :-)

  • this song is so great my sister and I almost died!!!! lol

  • MEsinger38, oh no! You and your sister must stay alive, but the pigeons...

  • Excellent, excellent. This was the first ever of Tom Lehrer's songs that I heard, and it remains one of my very favourites. I'm thrilled to get a chance to see it performed by the man himself, albeit with a different intro then my CD version. Thank you so much for posting these!
