the winner doesn't need to invoke the biggest laughs, the most suspense, or be the most original... what it does need is that element that you can't put your finger on; that makes you smile and go, "yup, i like this"... and this has that feeling in spades. wicked vid guys, congrats

The idea was throw away. The foreign guy was a party trick. The dialogue was frustratingly, generically kiwi-mockumentary. The camera work wasn't even dazzling. I wish I had something nice to say, but it just disgusts me how safe this film is. The elements are poorly integrated, I just don't get it. Excruciatingly underwhelming; this is the kind of film you make in an afternoon when no-one can think of anything constructive to do. Big fat 'meh'.

I think what has actually made this film so popular with audiences is that it doesn't actually feel like a mockumentary. I hadn't heard of "Pool Jumpers" either, but as with most mockumentaries it's too obviously a parody, which (I think) diminishes your enjoyment. With "The Child Jumpers" we didn't really set out to make a mockumentary per se, so much as a really genuine film about a ridiculous pass time. People seem to really respond to that.

@ChorChar Maybe 'ripped off' is a bit harsh, but if they have taken the 'original idea' from someone else's work, the overall piece must still be credited to the Pool Jumpers. But you never know, maybe Pool Jumpers used someone else's idea. I don't care how the idea was executed, the original idea, or the core idea is the most precious part!

@vincethorn Hey, thanks for pointing pool jumpers out, it's really funny, worth a watch everyone. That's the first time I've seen it (I was the writer). I'll let you in on a little inside secret, films often follow genres, and the genre we followed was mockumentary. Pool jumpers is also a mockumentary. A reference piece for us was Dogtown and Z boys, and I think Pool Jumpers probably had a similar reference (Dogtown is about guys that skate in empty pools) Ripped off? Piss off.

@tomasiboy29 Hi, yes there an obvious reference / parody of Dogtown in Pool Jumpers, I just think they did a better job of mocking the reference (a year ago). I obviously don't know if you guys did or didn't see Pool Jumpers, I guess I'm just saying this type of thing is a bit old-hat (mockumentaries in general really), and I expected something a bit fresher from something like the V 48Hour film fest.

@vincethorn Fair enough, fair comments, film's subjective. We hadn't seen Pool Jumpers, but I can see why you liked it more; it's very funny and doesn't have my face. We weren't just mocking the reference, if we were doing that it would have been a lot more screwball. We were making a film about friendship, and we like mockumentaries (so do a lot of other people, so it's fine for a few to not like it, we'll shoot for the majority) so we chose that for the medium.
