  • Nice tutorial. I kinda only have the money to get the kits themselves, so getting the stuff to detailing them is a pain in the ass. Now I see the easy way to do it.

  • its silver sharpie right?

  • what if u dont have a nail

  • Could you do it with other sharpie colors as well, like brown or black? And if so how do you think it would come out?

  • Thanks! Very Helpful, but next time you could have better lighting I guess.

  • I'll try this with my EW kits. they look a bit plain besides 00 and Seed Destiny kits even with deatiling

  • Using this method, what color sharpie would I use for a rust effect? So far I've only found gold and silver and I wasn't sure if the gold would be the right color to use.

  • when your done burning it then you bliw on it and finally you brush it?

  • just a thing i've heard before, so what do you think, plausible or not.

use rough sandpaper to create shallow gashes in the armor, then apply graphite dust or a very thin (watered-down) paint to the armor, and wipe off the stuff that doesn't fall into the gashes.

  • did u paint the panels first or was the weathering straight on to the plastic?

  • code geass song =D

  • i wonder how you can do this on the exia since hes mostly white

  • Nice techniques! Just a little warning:

Please do remove excess plastic on the nail or heat source before reheating it. Burnt plastic not only smells bad, it's also toxic and nauseous.

  • a drimmul works too

  • thx man :D

  • That looks pretty good. Question though. I have a HG 1/144 Ground Type Gundam en route and I plan on doing some weathering/battle damage on it. Can you use gundam markers and get the same effect as the sharpie?

  • @rayne21x i think so. It may even come out a bit better though I'm unsure. Best way to know is to test it on something.

  • that looks really good. i'm going to have to try that on next HG I get. i'm always up on try something which you can do for cheaper.

  • Is it bad for your health?

  • i tried this method using silver enamel paint on my wing zero custom and got a pretty good result, but when youre applying the paint, should you do it oging in the same direction? great guide btw :D

  • Thanks for the tutorial man,did it to my Char Zaku II and it looked great

  • lol nice! i practically do the same weathering techniques with my model kits, except i usually sand the edges first with sand paper that way the paint gets highlighted and makes the damages look more realistic. Also i don't use sharpie, i buy Testor's aluminum silver for $1.99 at my local hobbyshop. also i use a soldering tool i got @ 99 cents store to do beam saber damage.

  • Question: im getting 3 model kits, and i have never built one. Is HGUC Jegan easy to build, cuz i figure its a good place to start.

  • @SilverSpades100 hmm That is a good start also older HGUC kits with less details have less smaller pieces aswell as the seed HG kits are good starter kits too.

  • @frow55 wich is a ggod start :dynames virtue exia?

  • you can just use incence it does the same thing but its you have to take more time and its take more practis

  • very nice!

  • kool im just now going to start a collection on gundams and im getting a rx-78-2 30th anniversary edition and then im going to get a different gundam and weather and battle damage it

  • could you battle damage a trans am model?

  • I live close to a the downtown Gunpla Store but I guess this will save me the time of going out to buy silver paint. I'll try this with some cheap kit before I try this on my other more valuable models. The silver sharpie thing is a good idea :D

  • the dry brushing also works real well with a tooth brush

  • Wow that's a great idea! I think i'll tr this when my new gunpla arrives!

  • awesome i did this to my exia and it looks amazing.

  • I was wondering, could I battle damage a painted piece?

  • hhmm u could but it may not come out the same, its better to do the melting and stuff before you paint then add in the small details.

  • would gundam marker work on this?

  • well.. yeah.. lol

  • hmm geass sound track on a gundam vid is that ironic?

  • eh not really their both animes come from bandai, a zoids one would be more ironic.

  • Thanks for the vid! saved me so much money on a soldering iron .

  • im starting a gundam model kit collection, your vids are awesome. What was your first gundam model ever?

  • Thanks, my 1st model ever was the 1/144 deathscythe.(its also my fave gundam)

  • where did you get the Dynames gundam i cant find it anywhere???

  • Amazon, hlj, hobbywave, gundamstoreandmore should all carry it. And this isnt dynames this is cheridum.

  • thank you very much :)

  • lol code geass song on a gundam model lol

  • love the random song inserted.

i was like..oshit wtf was that....i think its from the vid....... xD

  • im getting the weathering merker set

  • Would it affect the shinyness of the sharpie if u put a flat or matte topcoat on it?

  • koool thing u gt =D

wow , weathering can also be great not using an airbrush !

Btw wad brush is suitable for weathering use ?

Cant use the normal brush ?

  • i used that way to wether my one model kit as well thank's Frow55

  • This tutorial is sooo useful and I love you guys for making this but I have a question. What did you do to your Cherudim before you did the things in this video? Did you paint, sand, topcoat, anything like that before, or is that the normal out of the box plastic surface?

  • Thanks, its out of the box plastic, might actually make a real attempt with the works(everything including painting the kit completly) eventually.

  • I find it doesn't work as well on sanded plastic, it forms large shiny grey areas instead of nice looking thin silver lines. I haven't tried it on painted plastic yet...

  • aren't plastic fumes poisonous?

  • tried it worked great then i actually scratched it (took hours) looked kinda better the way i did it.(would have recorded but no one to hold,

    , balance, zoom)

  • im not trying to be annoying or naggy but when u put the nail on the fire u should do it out side because the stuff the put on nails so the dont rust can become poisines when there on a flame :./

  • what colour should i weather my 1/100 tieren ground type

  • rubbing alcohol works

  • yo the first time i BAd'd i didnt know how so i went to my dads closet and got the shotgun and shot it once and my mastergrade wing zero gundam and i was like .... crap

  • dude your lucky to be able to do tha .......i dont have a model and its torcher to wacth this

  • i used this to turn my hg exia to repair 1

  • What grade do you use?

I only build HG at the moment, which come with stickers instead of having details painted on.

I'm guessing MG models are better for this?

  • have u burnt your self wit dat nail?

  • and then silver

  • I would dry brush with black later

  • thanks for the fucking amazing tips xD. it helped me out so much. I went on a battle damage spree yesterday

  • ... If you want carbon scoring in the bullet hole or gash, you can apply your brush method inside the gash, but with a black marker, or you can VERY CAREFULLY actually carbon-score it with a controlled Naphtha flame.

The heat from a bullet strike would leave a carbon trail where it impacted, and I kinda like that effect. Also, a beam hit would do the same.

All in all, it was a good tutorial, but the technique isn't perfect. I'm likely to try your technique, now. Now to find the right model

  • Good tutorial for a poor-man's weathering technique. It does lack a few things, such as carbon-scoring in the battle damage and the fact that it doesn't allow for dirt weathering. (I'm still cracking my own method for that)

Personally, I use a set of precision screwdrivers; you can buy a set of 10 for $2. The variety of sizes lets me use a variety of bullet-hole sizes, and they use 4 separate pieces of metal to a screwdriver, so I don't burn myself even with a good handhold on the driver...

  • why dont U guys Weather the gundam s weapons dudes?

  • Your "hot-nail" technique would be great for beam saber damage! Thanks for posting.

  • i agree power the sharpe

  • what was the whole thing about 'electric shaver' I didn't understand anything you said about that.

  • I said we used a cleaning brush from a electric shaver as a ordinary paint brush.

  • I wonder if you can use the sharpies for model painting?

  • you can but it comes off pretty fast

  • what i do is, i get my silver paint and i use a brush (not smooth but the prickly kind) and i put paint on it. then paint on a piece of paper until its almost out and then start weathering.

    -look at zversus channel.

    -its more defined and quicker.

thx for the nail tip thx frow

  • Interesting. Very interesting indeed.

I've heard of people using sharpies to colur the clear pieces but this is something else :)

  • Do you need a certain nail?

  • lols no. just get any normal nail

  • and whoohoo! O2!~

Ah, brings back memories...I suddenly feel like watching Code Geass again. xD

  • aha, very very nice! I thought about doing this but I was gonna use a rod under a stove...this way seems much more safer, thank you!

I've always wanted a way to make bullet holes for my Heavyarms, thanks alot 4 the tip! =D

  • can this technique be used on action figures as well? Or just model kits? I thought the plastic might be different.

  • i tried this already on 3 of my models. this is an awesome video!!!!!!

  • Cool video!

Iscence sticks have the advantage that your model smells like one of these after you're finished ^^

This 'brush' you are using looks like the cleaner that came with my electrical shaver :P

Nice way of doing BD and dry brushing.

Great Video! you deserved the 5 stars ^^

  • I couldnt find any iscense sticks, I really want to try them out. Lol it is a cleaning brush from a electrical shaver(talk about improvising lol)

    Thank you very much!

  • If I were you I would sand the part to make it less glossy, and I would brush on black and silver. But that's just me.

  • great vid, basicaly the same way i did for my seravee lol

but i think i may have had silver and flat ghost grey acrylic paint tho.......... but any who basicaly the same thing lol

  • u da man

  • Great tutorial, i'm gonna try this...but wouldnt the sharpy for the weather smudge and come off easy?

  • @counterpoint10 I'm not too sure, but I think using some sort of finishing spray would work.

  • pretty good results for low budget stuff...hella feel you on that recession mess

  • Remember, open the windows. otherwise melting plastic will give you carbon monoxide poisoning. Also, you should really state that that kit in your description isn't yours because it looks like you're trying to make it look like it's yours. Not that I think that, but others will. Nice guide though bro.

  • well the windows were open, thats why I said the birds are yelling at me lol And me and Tito have a combined collection so technically it is my kit, anyways thanks bro.

  • Very awesome. Defiantly going to try this stuff when I get a new kit.

  • They do have weathering gundam markers.I just had an Idea for a Master Grade GM Sniper, now I just have buy the model.Great job, five star treatment.

  • thanks for the tips i used it last night and fucking love it!

  • Nice what kit did you weather?

  • Dynames, looks so good.

i think im going to do my GP01 PG next idk what do you think?

  • Everyone likes to weather dynames/cheridum because we did it and some other people did it to lol

A PG? thats gonna be a challenge because its so much area to cover.

  • Hey thanks for the tutorial.. this was a lot of help... sometimes U use a blunt blade to be heated and use it to give a little scratch marks.. keep it up bro!

  • thats a really awesome idea, im gonna have to work on that technique for when i get my MG Exia.

  • Wow, really creative way to battle damage ur kits, awesome tutorial nonetheless gonna try this on some of my kits =D

  • Thanks bro.

  • would using a pencil and running it over paper many times, and applying it to a light colored frame work for weathering too?

  • I suppose but pencil rubs and smudges off really easy.

  • wow..good..

  • Cheridum Gundam

  • wow hella nice guys. Tito how did u come up with that?

  • Thanks, "frow gave me the idea to damage my kits cuz my G0-4 was messeed up so I wanted to practice on some of my HG"s so I went lookin' in the toolbox in the garage and found a tiny nail. then I took the candle from the bathroom lol hoping in would work the hot nail did work after all YAY!" -TITO

  • this video made me wanna weather my dynames sniper rifle, which i just did hehe, cept i used a silver paint marker and dry brushed it, i might do that burning nail technique though

  • WOOT code geass music!!!

  • I agree that melting it looks a lot more natural than drilling through the plastic because gundams use beam weapons. I think actual paint would work better than ink but as you said it's kind of like a video showing how to weather with basic household items.

  • Very nice man. It gives the illusion of being metal.

  • wow, tito is good at weathering!

  • Thats sick

  • very nice , thanks for passing on the tips frow an tito , 5 stars!

  • Whether it cheap or not its a great way to do all that.

  • sweet tutorial man..helped alot

  • mine is better >=]

  • sure is lol

  • you dont mean that =[

  • cool.... i wanna try this

  • thanks a lot

  • Wow Tito made it look awesome, I've used the marker as well and my brother used it to weather his gundam and it turned out pretty good, but sharpie is still removable by your fingers so it comes off sometime or smudges, that's why paint it better but paint is more permanent so you have to use caution ^^ unless you have thinner :P

oh and happy 1 year Anniversary bro, can't wait for the vid :D

  • i thought "BAD ASS" was your favorite word

  • hehe well I have been using nice alot lately so I changed it lol(its only a temp word)

  • ty so much
