Nice tutorial. I kinda only have the money to get the kits themselves, so getting the stuff to detailing them is a pain in the ass. Now I see the easy way to do it.
Hi purchase a set of Gundam Weathering Maker Set (6 markers set), and after I applied it on a regular plastic figure; the marked paint rubs right off if I touch it! :( Are there any tips to bond the marker's paint to the plastic toy? I need to find a solution to using this set or else I wasted my money on them. ;_;
Do you know that Christianity is correct? The world around us reveals that G-d DOES exist, and the historical evidence reveals that Jesus Christ really did come to this earth and there is overwhelming evidence that Jesus Christ really did physically rise from the dead. Jesus is coming again and the signs of the end times that were foretold in the Bible are coming to pass.
Using this method, what color sharpie would I use for a rust effect? So far I've only found gold and silver and I wasn't sure if the gold would be the right color to use.
just a thing i've heard before, so what do you think, plausible or not.
use rough sandpaper to create shallow gashes in the armor, then apply graphite dust or a very thin (watered-down) paint to the armor, and wipe off the stuff that doesn't fall into the gashes.
That looks pretty good. Question though. I have a HG 1/144 Ground Type Gundam en route and I plan on doing some weathering/battle damage on it. Can you use gundam markers and get the same effect as the sharpie?
i tried this method using silver enamel paint on my wing zero custom and got a pretty good result, but when youre applying the paint, should you do it oging in the same direction? great guide btw :D
lol nice! i practically do the same weathering techniques with my model kits, except i usually sand the edges first with sand paper that way the paint gets highlighted and makes the damages look more realistic. Also i don't use sharpie, i buy Testor's aluminum silver for $1.99 at my local hobbyshop. also i use a soldering tool i got @ 99 cents store to do beam saber damage.
@SilverSpades100 hmm That is a good start also older HGUC kits with less details have less smaller pieces aswell as the seed HG kits are good starter kits too.
kool im just now going to start a collection on gundams and im getting a rx-78-2 30th anniversary edition and then im going to get a different gundam and weather and battle damage it
I live close to a the downtown Gunpla Store but I guess this will save me the time of going out to buy silver paint. I'll try this with some cheap kit before I try this on my other more valuable models. The silver sharpie thing is a good idea :D
This tutorial is sooo useful and I love you guys for making this but I have a question. What did you do to your Cherudim before you did the things in this video? Did you paint, sand, topcoat, anything like that before, or is that the normal out of the box plastic surface?
I find it doesn't work as well on sanded plastic, it forms large shiny grey areas instead of nice looking thin silver lines. I haven't tried it on painted plastic yet...
im not trying to be annoying or naggy but when u put the nail on the fire u should do it out side because the stuff the put on nails so the dont rust can become poisines when there on a flame :./
yo the first time i BAd'd i didnt know how so i went to my dads closet and got the shotgun and shot it once and my mastergrade wing zero gundam and i was like .... crap
... If you want carbon scoring in the bullet hole or gash, you can apply your brush method inside the gash, but with a black marker, or you can VERY CAREFULLY actually carbon-score it with a controlled Naphtha flame.
The heat from a bullet strike would leave a carbon trail where it impacted, and I kinda like that effect. Also, a beam hit would do the same.
All in all, it was a good tutorial, but the technique isn't perfect. I'm likely to try your technique, now. Now to find the right model
Good tutorial for a poor-man's weathering technique. It does lack a few things, such as carbon-scoring in the battle damage and the fact that it doesn't allow for dirt weathering. (I'm still cracking my own method for that)
Personally, I use a set of precision screwdrivers; you can buy a set of 10 for $2. The variety of sizes lets me use a variety of bullet-hole sizes, and they use 4 separate pieces of metal to a screwdriver, so I don't burn myself even with a good handhold on the driver...
what i do is, i get my silver paint and i use a brush (not smooth but the prickly kind) and i put paint on it. then paint on a piece of paper until its almost out and then start weathering.
Remember, open the windows. otherwise melting plastic will give you carbon monoxide poisoning. Also, you should really state that that kit in your description isn't yours because it looks like you're trying to make it look like it's yours. Not that I think that, but others will. Nice guide though bro.
well the windows were open, thats why I said the birds are yelling at me lol And me and Tito have a combined collection so technically it is my kit, anyways thanks bro.
Hey thanks for the tutorial.. this was a lot of help... sometimes U use a blunt blade to be heated and use it to give a little scratch marks.. keep it up bro!
Thanks, "frow gave me the idea to damage my kits cuz my G0-4 was messeed up so I wanted to practice on some of my HG"s so I went lookin' in the toolbox in the garage and found a tiny nail. then I took the candle from the bathroom lol hoping in would work the hot nail did work after all YAY!" -TITO
this video made me wanna weather my dynames sniper rifle, which i just did hehe, cept i used a silver paint marker and dry brushed it, i might do that burning nail technique though
I agree that melting it looks a lot more natural than drilling through the plastic because gundams use beam weapons. I think actual paint would work better than ink but as you said it's kind of like a video showing how to weather with basic household items.
Wow Tito made it look awesome, I've used the marker as well and my brother used it to weather his gundam and it turned out pretty good, but sharpie is still removable by your fingers so it comes off sometime or smudges, that's why paint it better but paint is more permanent so you have to use caution ^^ unless you have thinner :P
oh and happy 1 year Anniversary bro, can't wait for the vid :D
Nice tutorial. I kinda only have the money to get the kits themselves, so getting the stuff to detailing them is a pain in the ass. Now I see the easy way to do it.

Could you do it with other sharpie colors as well, like brown or black? And if so how do you think it would come out?
