@490412345 No you hardass. If you knew anything about family or love you would understand that when he went to get his things and saw that picture, the little boy was him, the older guy was his father, and that was the truck in the background. He thought that it was worth more to keep the memory of him, his dad, and that truck to save a little cash and get rid of it.
it takes an extra special brand of redneck dumbass to be emotionally manipulated by a commercial as moronic and terribly-acted as this one. kudos to you all
my family had owned a chevrolet getaway van since the year before i was born and i grew up with that thing every road trip every where we went it was in that with my two older brothers, i learned to drive on it, changed the oil for my first time on it, we went cross canada in it her name was Bessi she was part of the family everyone knew our van, sadly my folks had to sell her but one day im gonna find her i love that thing,
I drive an old Suburban that my dad got when I was 7. It's been mine now for almost 5 years. Recently run into a fair but of mechanical problems with it and wasn't sure whether to say goodbye or fix it. I started thinking of all the memories that have been made around her and with her, then I started to cry a bit. And that answered my question for what to do.
I love this commercial actually. It shows why not fix the 72 considering it still was a decent truck and not buy some garbage pile GMT900 series that they sell now, lol. Gm's pickup trucks died with the end of the GMT800 platform in the 2007 model year......
This commercial really touched me the first time I saw it. My dad has '96 Chevy Cheyenne truck that's just as old as I am. My dad passed this year and his old truck means very much to me and mom. My dad loved that truck and wouldn't get rid of it no matter what.
I owned Ford, GMC, you name, and no car I own ever performed better than my Chevy Cavalier. No kidding. Bought it used and still running like brand new since '94 to this day.
This brings back good old memories of me and dad in his old 82 Custom Deluxe. He had it since 88. He was gonna give her to me to pass on and restore, but we needed the money, so he sold for 1200. I wonder where that old Chevy is today...
My dad has a 1979 silverado and it's been in my life for as long as I've been around and about ten years before I was born. I love this truck it is our wood truck and all around good time. To anyone else this truck might be worth about 500 bucks, but to me and my dad it is worth 1 million. My brother just purchased a 2011 2500 hd silverado! let me tell you what a truck. I am 15 and just got a 1998 s10 zr2! Can't wait to turn 16!! Chevy Run Deep.
@lmcdowall man you are a retard your stating that we are selfish because we want to keep a vehicle that has lasted us years and has proven its strength, all to give it up to go buy another vehicle which is one more money then any repair or gas combined my chevy truck will give out hybrids are good cars to save gas but come on business and other plants machines aren't hybrids at the end of the day gas will be used if you like it or not i love my 94 chevy silveraldo!
My great grandfather bought a Chevy C-20 with the 396 brand new in 1969. He used it for 27 years until he passed away. I bought the truck off of my great grandmother and am currently restoring it. Chevy definitely runs deep.
My aunt has a 1972 Chevy truck. Stick shift and only two people can drive it. She, and my grandma. It was my grandpa's truck and I don't think it'll ever be sold. My father-in-law has a 1988 Chevrolet Silverado. It was his father-in-law's. I recently bought a 2006 Chevy Silverado that I want to give to my daughter as her first vehicle. From generation to generation, Chevy runs deep.
I know I might get flamed for this, but I drive a 1970 mustang fastback. I love all classic American muscle, and this commercial. If your a GM, a Ford, or even a Chrysler, the feeling is the same. They all run deep.
That's right baby LTHS CLASS OF 2010! and I LOVE CHEVY!!! ALL AMERICAN MADE. thats right giving jobs to people back home. Plus this commercial shows character to keep something that has traditons (which ppl now lack) rather than buying a new item when an old one getts a little run down. Hmm but yet again lmdcowall prob is a guy and treats girls the same way.. so im not surprised.
Just fix it because OMG my wife is HOT. Well, I have bad news for you, smartass~ I'm taking my truck somewhere to get it fixed. Now, get me my fracking keys right now, and wipe that look off your face.
I can't believe there are more likes than dislikes on this commercial. It is so stupid and fake. Every time this comes on, which is a lot I find more things wrong with it. The acting is just SOOO bad tho and that mechanics dumbass look on his face. Plain and simple this is one of the worst commercials I've seen in awhile.
Of all the 58 years of commercials I have seen, this is by far the best. As a poet of some reputation, I am speechless, it is so outstanding. Not more to say, I saved it to my hard drive.
Yes, the acting is not up to par with the excellent camera work and script. Let's not forget this was shot by an independent filmmaker though. Talent cost money.
@lmcdowall you are crazy ..... and your statement is a loose and is down right offensive. And don`t you dare jump on me about this. I serve my country and defend lunatics like you so you can have your youtube and precious hybrids. Thank you for your time, and i respect your right to free speech, but please remove this ridiculous comment. you should know better than to say something so outrageous.
I hate this commercial because it shows exactly what is wrong with America today. We are willing risk other people's lives and limbs just so we can selfishly have our toys. I think people who want to drive gas-hogs because they are 'cool' or sentimental ought to have to be the ones to go fight in the Middle East. Do America a favor and buy a new American Hybrid or economy class vehicle.
@lmcdowall you are crazy ..... and your statement is a loose and is down right offensive. And don`t you dare jump on me about this. @lmcdowall I'd like to see a Prius haul a camper/trailor/boat or be capable of scaling 4"+ of mud or snow. In the city, hybrids are more than capable. However, if you're in Oklahoma, you get a Chevy truck. Some people don't sit at desks all day. They need their trucks to feed their cattle, weld for businesses, etc. My family is a Chevy family. I got my grandpa's old C10 Silverado and my uncle has my great-grandpa's 1970 Impala. If you want a vehicle that works as hard you do, you get a Chevy.
@lmcdowall FUCK OFF you pric,,,maybe that truck is all he has left of his dad, you saw the picture,,,,,,,fuckin crist,,,,,,,,,,,,,asshole.........have a little respect for the heartbeat of AMERICA
@lmcdowall Uhhh, the people who drive old Chevrolets like this ARE the people fighting in the Middle East. And I don't know about you but where I come from we love are parents and every memory we have of them. My momma died when I was 7 and one of the best memories I have is of her, my dad, and I driving around in his old chevy 1500 single cab. It got 14 miles to the gallon.
@lmcdowall i seriously, 100% hope you die. drive your prius into a deep lake. the fact you got right is that the ones who value family and sentiment ARE the ones fighting in the middle east so you can sit here on your laptop adn talk through your liberal ass online. they should be honored. fighting overseas is not a punishment, it is an honorable act of courage, of which you will never have any.
@lmcdowall Obviously you don't get it...it's not about the truck itself, but more about what it means to the owner! Some people actually value memories of loved ones through items they owned or used. Yes it's not a brand new shiny hybrid with super gas mileage, computer controlled transmission or OnStar, but that truck means more to him than you can ever understand! That truck has been with his family for his whole life, and he wants his son to have the same fond family memories as he does!
@lmcdowall This is true to an extent. But if someone has a car like this for sentimental reasons (like me) than I believe it's ok as long as we don't drive them that often. I think you'd agree if you and you're Grandaddy spent countless times together in his Dodge van, laughing, talking, and having a great time.
Reminds me of My father who passed this year....... he had a blue 72 Chevy pick up and loved it to no end! Love the video gets me all misty eyed and stuff. Miss you Dad.
Um... good idea I guess... but damn I just saw this on Fox during the football game and for a minute there I thought it was a commercial for a Twilight sequel. I don't know what kind of competition was in that "short film contest" but did ALL the short films have weirdos in them? Damn...
Oh....oh wow.... I'm embarrassed just watching this commercial, I cant even imagine how the "actors" feel. Anyone who took part in this commercial should be ashamed of themselves.
As a Ford man, I have to concede - Point chevy. This is a beautiful, brilliant commercial that we haven't seen the likes of since that old autozone/kid on bike ad. It's a real shame people today in their trendy little eco s*** boxes have no concept of ownership or bonding with something. These are members of the family and arguable far more dependable then family..
Perfect example of horrific acting. Good concept and storyline, but horrible acting all the way around. Still makes me cry though. Only guys will understand. It's a father and son thing.
This was the worst commercial I have ever seen. I'm all for preserving the traditions and history of family and such. However, this is not the way to do it. Horrible acting. Gimmicky.
@TheJestersDance Actually if it was a ford it would have been crushed and turned into a porch swing if it was from the same era as this chevy truck. Not many 67-72 fords out there. Lots more chevys from this era.
My Son will Inherit a Chevy that is almost as old as I am from his dad one day,, He would feel the same way and write a blank check also to keep it running Emotions are more for his dad than the Chevy we even have photos of him , his son and , his dad working on it...
honestly one of the worst commercials I've ever seen! There is no way a mechanic would ever stop someone from pouring money into a junker.. too unrealistic for me.
Look, this is a commercial about an old Chevy truck not a Hollywood block buster so the acting is not the issue. It is the fact that many guys are attached to their trucks. With that said, My 1994 Chevrolet 1500 Pick-up just turned 300,000 miles. It has been repaired and rebuilt many times by my dad at his auto shop. It needs a paint job real bad. I love my truck so this commercial hits home and my heart. Chevy does run deep
Point being GM's greatness is in the past now. Its just another open hand looking for tax dollars. Buy the new truck and its made by a company that knows even if it makes a terrible product, it can still get bailed out at the last minute. RIP GM
Yall really don't understand. I've owned my 91 for eight months and spent its value on repairs. I could get my 2008 back from my dad, but I don't. Why? Two reasons: pride and cost. Repairing that old truck will be a few hundred, maybe a few thousand. A new one is 15-20k, at least. And I'm proud that I can diagnose and repair most of the common faults on a 1991 F150. I can't say the same for a new truck.
While watching this, I looked out the window at my 1984 K10 which belonged to my deceased grandfather and which has inside the first motor that I ever built with my other grandfather...I cried like crazy...Chevy runs deep!
The body looks like it's on okay shape... Just go to the scrapyard and pick out any one of a dozen 350 small blocks and throw it in that pickup and you're good to go another 100,000 miles.
Some of you don't get it. That's okay. To the rest of us, it's not just a vehicle. It's all the memories tied up in it. You taught your son how to drive a stick shift with it, you took a road trip just to enjoy the feeling of freedom. It pulled you through snowstorms and downpours and it never let you down. It's about respect and gratitude.
THIS and the Eminem DCX commercials are exactly how the big 3 need to be marketing to Americans. They need to play off the mythology of the proud American worker and 20th century craftsmanship. Yeah, even if so many parts are made overseas now, this advertisement still makes me determined to buy American for my next vehicle. Learn from this, Motor city ad men.
I have a 1984 Chevy Scottsdale, my grandpa gave it to me and im selling it to one of his friends and i know he will take good care of it, one day i will buy another Chevy truck i loved mine :)
"Just fix it. Even though it gets terrible gas mileage, the tires are worn and the rusted body will probably fall off or my son will cut his hand on it. Just fix it. Eventually I'll realize that long road trips to visit friends and family on a bench seat with no way to recline will cause endless back pain and I'll develop a pilonodial cyst. Just fix it. Because we spent too much money on Canadian Tuxedos instead of saving up money to buy a safer, cleaner, more efficient vehicle."
@CgPallaeon See, it's funny because you're a moron. Nobody with any interest in cars gives a shit about fuel economy, or safety outside of the track. A non moron also knows that tires are replacable, you can make a car cleaner using something called a "car wash", and rust only happens through neglect.
@CgPallaeon Just fix it because it's all I have left of my grand father who was the father I never had. Just fix it because it may get terrible gas milage but it'll pull your pos prius out of the ditch at 12:00am in a blizzard. Just fix it, because It doesn't require the engine to be pulled to change a spark plug. Just fix it, because I'm better than arrogant liberal ass holes like yourself who see no reason to preserve a piece of family history.
@CgPallaeon Your an idiot. This truck is made in the USA and with American steel! It is not about Gas mileage of comfort! , My 1994 Chevrolet 1500 Pick-up just turned 300,000 miles. It has been repaired and rebuilt many times by my dad at his auto shop. It needs a paint job real bad. It rides great and it gets 18 mpg and the bench seat is still comfortable and it no air bag.
This commercial almost made me cry. It reminds me of my dad and our old 1982 Chevy Scottsdale pickup. It truly was a part of my childhood and a member of the family.
Nice way to change up todays commercials, it shows what a brand stands for instead of showing fancy features and rap stars. Combined with powerful music score and setting, one of the most moving commercials I've ever seen.
Hello everybody, we are aspiring filmmakers who were finalists for this commercial contest as well, but did not win. Please take a look at our commercial, and tell us what you think! If possible, please SUBSCRIBE as well. We do't have much right now, but have a lot more projects to come! THANKS!!

people its a winner from a film festival. Chevy didn't make it, some kid or group of kids aspiring to make films one day made it.

@TheJestersDance Actually if it was a ford it would have been crushed and turned into a porch swing if it was from the same era as this chevy truck. Not many 67-72 fords out there. Lots more chevys from this era.

My Son will Inherit a Chevy that is almost as old as I am from his dad one day,, He would feel the same way and write a blank check also to keep it running Emotions are more for his dad than the Chevy we even have photos of him , his son and , his dad working on it...
downhamsheral 6 months ago
honestly one of the worst commercials I've ever seen! There is no way a mechanic would ever stop someone from pouring money into a junker.. too unrealistic for me.
darcblu84 6 months ago
Look, this is a commercial about an old Chevy truck not a Hollywood block buster so the acting is not the issue. It is the fact that many guys are attached to their trucks. With that said, My 1994 Chevrolet 1500 Pick-up just turned 300,000 miles. It has been repaired and rebuilt many times by my dad at his auto shop. It needs a paint job real bad. I love my truck so this commercial hits home and my heart. Chevy does run deep

Just fix it, because the cars that you make nowadays aren't worth shit compared to the cars that you used to make.

I expected a Ford logo to come up at the end of the commercial with a voiceover:
"If you've got a really old Chevy from the good old days, fix your Chevy. But if you need a new truck... Buy Ford Tough"
SpaceShotNet 6 months ago
Point being GM's greatness is in the past now. Its just another open hand looking for tax dollars. Buy the new truck and its made by a company that knows even if it makes a terrible product, it can still get bailed out at the last minute. RIP GM

Heifsin85 6 months ago
Yall really don't understand. I've owned my 91 for eight months and spent its value on repairs. I could get my 2008 back from my dad, but I don't. Why? Two reasons: pride and cost. Repairing that old truck will be a few hundred, maybe a few thousand. A new one is 15-20k, at least. And I'm proud that I can diagnose and repair most of the common faults on a 1991 F150. I can't say the same for a new truck.

coolwolf100 6 months ago

CgPallaeon 6 months ago
@CgPallaeon See, it's funny because you're a moron. Nobody with any interest in cars gives a shit about fuel economy, or safety outside of the track. A non moron also knows that tires are replacable, you can make a car cleaner using something called a "car wash", and rust only happens through neglect.
doritostheking 6 months ago 6
