I say he retired because he got rid of his original team, stopped training properly and didn't take the sport serious anymore...and even mentioned "retirement" after his fight with Spinks.

Thats the problem with that type of boxers like Tyson that they do not have anything else after boxing, that is the only thing they know. If they tried to invest in real estate, stocks, business they didnt need to go back in the ring. I know it is difficult to hang the gloves but hey if you have other things to do at least it is better, do you agree?

Tyson made poor choices.

Everything was said to be set-up for him to never have to work a day in his life after the age of about 25 had he stayed the course D'Amato, Jacobs and Cayton set for him. He was making money inside and outside of the ring and had some type of trust set-up for him.

But he made the decision to get married when he probably shouldn't have and he also got with Don King. He changed and so did his bank account and life.

You need to have an education. It doesn't necessarily have to do with going to college but you do need to read as much as possible and learn what is needed.

And you have to get your mind to understand that there is more to life than just boxing.

It can be hard to deal with though. It's a shady business/world and he was quite young and may have felt lost without a proper guide...like D'Amato...like Jacobs.

Maybe, maybe not. It became inevitable because the tools that were helping him work it all out ended up being lost/died. People like Tyson not only have to learn the right ways of doing things they may even need "guides" to stay on them all the way through until they are ready to go out on their own. Tyson even said he knew what to do...Cus taught him that...and he warned him what to stay away from...but he didn't end up listening.

Now if Cus had lived, Tyson said he would have listened.

Just look at Jose Torres and Floyd Patterson who were handled by Cus. Both during their careers and especially after with the way they handled themselves and led their life.

Tyson had that chance had he been able to stay the course. But things were placed in front of him he couldn't handle without proper helped and he fell apart. It's tough.

After Jacobs died, he felt there was nobody like that in his life left. So, he began to trust the wrong people and down he went.

From what I know, Cus was about the first and only person in Tyson's life that made him feel worth something; so, when he died, Tyson was bound to become an emotional train wreck. There's a million other factors as well. It was inevitable.
