I got mine on yesterday and the glue tastes like sour shit... it sucks and I have sores on my mouth.. it makes it awkward and kind of depressing.. all my friends noticed I was sad about it but after 4 days its suppost to be normal.

I have a herbst appliance. Mine never hurt at all and i have had it for 4 months! I eat all the food they tell you not to eat, and yay the food gets stuck, but it comes out eventually. If you are scared of getting one, don't be. There not as bad as they look.

@spacecowboy832 I've had my herbst appliance for about 8 months and I am about to get it taken out. I am a runner, and I never notice it when I run. I was worried about that too (well actually I was more worried about how it would feel for swim team), but it's not a problem. I can move my jaw side to side, but not as much as I could before. Falling on the ground shouldn't bother you unless you just happen to hit the right spot. It won't come loose, it is pretty sturdy. Hope I helped...good luck!

@alzartoz because this is more advanced technology. my parents and sister had headgear and they sleep on their sides like anyone else and it moves the head gear and you would wake up with twisted teeth and pain. i dont really think thats what i want. and ppl would forget ot put it on or be embaressed to at partys n shtuff. it would take longer. doesnt it seem reasonable?

Hi i was just wondering, will i ever be able to eat hard foods? or like big foods like a burger were you have to open your moth really wide? I got it yesterday, & i hate it. i can deal with the pain, but the eating, i can chew a little bit, it kinda hurts when i tryed to eat doritoes, and swallowing the food is hard, it always gets stuck, and wont like go down my throat, i have mine for a year, along with braces, and i hate it.

@Taraxox824 Yeah after a bit you'll be able to eat hard foods. They should have told you that dorito's and ms.vikis chips are going to brake them.. when you get it tightned go back to soft stuff like soup, mashed potatoes, yogurt, ect you know the deal. Burgers, depending on the height. a bid mac wont work but normal sized should :)

@bradebunch  They are apart of the appliance. They support the bolt. You can either get bands or crowns and my ortho said crowns are harder to break. Hope i helped!

You can see it when a piston comes apart. I had it and hated it. A few times last May and June, my top left piston fell off. That's one bad thing about it, not to open your mouth to wide. Being a mechanical mouth is not enjoyable!

none of my pistons have ever come apart or loosened. my orthodontist uses a kind that opens like a telescope so it doesnt come apart.
