  • this is just great

  • @inflxshn. the studio recordings sound just like this. You are an uninformed idiot.

  • Bad ass!!!

  • Good picking on bass !!!!

  • Who's the sitting backing singer? Seen him in a few of their live videos.

  • @Boabyo Happy Chichester ...

  • god i miss this band...

  • I thought that broadcast content was not allowed on Youtube

  • @andym516 shut up and enjoy it.

  • One the last fuckin real bands that made a real live performance on network TV.

  • This f'n rocks. Plain and simple.

  • try listening to the lyrics and actual INSTRUMENTS!!

  • How's the Hannah Montana music collection working out for you, BS? Are you still dressing up like her and singing through a hairbrush while you watch your dance moves in your momma's mirror? Your sweet. Keep it up although I think your Tourette Syndrome has worsened.

  • What is this out of tune bullshit? Sounds like something middle aged, half deaf people would like.

  • From 4/26/1996 - Dana Carvey, Robin Quivers, Afghan Whigs appeared on Letterman

  • Best thing Afghan Whigs ever did was to produce Throneberry.

  • just started playing their songs in a band. never heard them before that. (MeTal roots) they fucckin rock!. Great Rythm. Why were they not big?... guess cause they have somethin...hot

  • @vanderlay1

in response to your question it's because they knew what they were doing. The Whigs were a real band.

  • Great song, great band... miss seeing them :(

  • c'mon kids, relax. i'm sure inflxshn's an ok guy/girl and is entitled to his/her opinion. AW's brilliance transcends what most would consider great music/art. and that's a GOOD thing.

  • Schweet video.

  • Yeah, he definitely sucks on something. They go down like piss. So who's going to be next and insult the person rather than the comment? Like I give a rat fucking shit. Big fucking deal, I said the group is dog shit. You cry babies want to get on someone for disliking what you worship it's your issues.

  • Wow, I've haven't pulled this one up in a long time. Just curious, and most respectfully..did you ever see them (AW, not Twilight) live? Music lovers are simply that; music lovers. We appreciate all types of music. Appreciating is not worship.

  • @inflxshn: Right on about the worship, it happens all over YouTube music. They ought to label the Comments section "Church." It would remind me not to enter in.

  • Gregs voice fits the music perfectly.....thats what makes them the Afghan Whigs....they fit. F-U to all those people who have to hear perfect pitch and perfect chords. Greg will sit and suck down a wisky and a joint with you right before he goes on stage....he's the man.

  • Perfect Singing for what it needs to be, perfect harmony for what it needs to be, "uncommon" chords mixed with some "common" ones (which is a lame critique anyway), and beautiful in and out of the studio. In fact more powerful live then recorded. Altough, the TV has seemed to make them (Gregg) a bit uncomfortable.

    Loved them since 90.

  • an uncommon chord? you just showed what a moron you really are

  • I agree with evenrane that I hope you are joking. But, if you are not, to critique a musician on the commonalty of their chords is so ludicrous that I am almost at a loss for words. Do they have to put a fifth or a Diminished chord in their song to gain favor with you. Perhaps, rather, you are clueless to what you speak of and to that point I have just wasted 1 minute.

  • Considering your charismatic use of four- letter words, it clearly shows the irony of you calling out "whiners". Perhaps music tutelage is not the only education that you are missing. You are funny in an empathetic way and I will miss your rants as you go through the "healing" process. Your utmost dislike for the Whigs is the best kind of compliment, not only for the Whigs, but to all those you enjoy listening to them. Please continue to prove my points....

  • I was going to let this slip but I couldn't as I was quite curious to see how you struggle with your next comment. "Common tone modulation" has to how notes within a chord are shared/ held between different keys. When you originally said" common chords" you were spouting off a laymans term for the A-G major and minor. If not, your comment would make even less sense. Your funny....keep it up please.

  • Wow, are you some dried up old woman, or a gay man? You are truly a fag if you think elitism is something new on the Inet. Go hang out with your cats.

  • I am neither but thanks for playing. I'm guessing you are struggling with your own "identity." If this helps you to figure it out then please continue this steam of meaningless gibberish. By the way, what on earth are you replying to? I am guessing that your confusion goes well beyond your sexuality. Good luck.

  • Penntellar, I'm guessing you are into magic....figures. How's momma's basement working out for you? Your online D&D tounament must not be going well for you as you seem quite hostile. AND no matter how hard you try to pretend that I am a homosexual, I am not. Sorry, you'll have to go back to daydreaming about the boys in the Sears catalogue.

  • LMAO! good one dude. At least I hope you were joking....

  • Doug Falsetti !!!

  • hahaha!!!!

  • is it just me or does this dude look like Joaquin Phoenix?

  • a cross between joaquin phoenix, john lennon, and john belushi..lmao

  • I watch this video like once every 6 months and shit my pants. Fucking amazing.

  • I feel bad for your pants.

  • The Afghan Whigs at the peak of their considerable powers...a badass rock band for the ages!

Dulli at his most suave and debonest. The red suit kills.

  • how come know one knows this?

  • God save the Whigs

  • Fucken loving the werewolf keyboarder. Man bring back the Whigs.

  • Badass drummer

  • nice recording but there's something weird about seeing them all sober- kind of loses something. Dulli without a drink and a cigarette is just wrong, but this ensemble is fantastic.

It's an obvious nod to Stevie Wonder, he segues it with Superstition all the time.

  • they have this obssession with great soul/funk without actually having the chops to pull their homages off - the result is... well, interesting... it´s basic rock and roll that strives to be something else, and the sheer rawness of it makes it work.

  • Yeah, its not that they don't have the chops though (in my opinion), it's more that their influences are so diversified that they've always been hard to categorise as anything other than a hard-rock band. I think the people who love them love the energy, and their willingness to take risks.

  • Love the crazy keyboardist at about 2:20. He's ready to 'burn it down'

  • haha that's harold chichester. gotta love him

  • Happy Chichester of the RC Mob? Nice!

  • Nice suit on Dulli. Not many people can pull off red like that.

  • @reallifenamesake If i was a girl Dully be man.

  • @reallifenamesake debonair ;)

  • does anyone know the date of this performance?

  • rock on greg

  • Even better than on the record!

  • F*CKING GREAT. Rocking!

  • underrated band

  • very underrated....my buddy turned me on to them since we went to a Guttertwins concert... Guttertwins are underrated too.... incredible vocals....

  • Saturnalia is one of my absolute av albums!

  • why is it called afghan whigs?

  • good question ahmadmashallah...these dudes have been around forever and i never knew where they got their name from...have to look that one up on wiki!!!!

  • Someone answered this on another thread here..apparently they're name for a motorcycle...

  • in the documentary released a year or two ago, there was an interview with greg dulli where he talked about the name. he said 'whigs' came from 19th century political party, and 'afghan' came from the place their favorite weed was grown.

it always has been difficult to pick up on his sarcasm in interviews, though, so who's to say whether this is accurate or not. =)

  • whether or not dulli's nomenclature for his band is accurate it's a still pretty cool one! thanks for the tidbit :D

  • Does anyone else hear Billy Preston's "Outta Space" sound here or is it only me? Compare the two, I think they did some sampling witbout expecting anyone to recognize it!

  • gregtudor, if that even is your real name, you just want to kiss Happy and make him wuv woo and kiss you goo goo goo.

  • Skinny Greg Dulli and Joaquim Phoenix have a slight resemblence!

  • heavy groove ... fantastic band

  • I wonder what happened to Greg's axe? I can't remember what saint that is a picture of...

  • HAPPY HAROLD CHICHESTER groovin on the keys / backin vocals. Anyone know what the Twilight Singers are doin ?

  • like butter

  • I wanna get drunk when I hear this.

  • Bob Hall, where are you from? My cousin is a Bob Hall.

  • Fantastic preformance!

  • yes, rock on people. Whigs did indeed rock.

  • What year is this from? Anyone know? Awesome performance.

  • I taped it on VHS! I wanna say between 95 to 98. Can't remember specific date, great song and great band! I wore that tape out by like 2002-03....

  • 120 minutes version iz better

  • cool.

  • fuckin' amazing

  • This might be the band at their height. I know Gentlemen was a better record, but this is when the band was fully realized. Cello, Harold on keys, fucking brilliant.

  • Barbara Hunter is the cello player. She's gorgeous.

  • The exception is Steve Earle is gone. My understanding is Dulli and Earle are no longer on speaking terms. They used to be roommates.

  • best band ever

  • That is seriously ill.

  • greg.. i'm here near avondale. heh.

  • You are one suave mother F'er - Dulli!!

  • LONG LIVE THE WHIGS, God Bless the TWILIGHT SINGERS!!

Dulli looks weird NOT smoking a cig.

    RocknRoll!!

  • that's hot!!!

i remember watching that show that night.....messed up!!!

  • Friggin' S-W-E-E-T!!!!

  • Great! the afgan whigs shou;d've taken over the world! i can't believe they didn't. they are so amazing!

  • No they weren`t - they just ripped off Stevie Wonders "Superstition," like The Stereophonics did with their song Mr Writer - both the Afghan Whigs and Stereophonics admitted this (at least). If you don`t believe me then listen to Superstition one of the great songs of the 70`s and also Mr Writer.

  • yea, search for a live version of this on yt...they segue from 'superstition' into this....

  • I have seen the Afgan Wigs / Twilight Singers

in Ohio (1989)& Chicago multiple times!! where I live, Greg sells out the Metro and Double Door constantly! I play in a band. Obviously, you do not! One of best bands I have EVER SEEN LIVE IN MY LIFE!!!! Pick up any pen(to right lyrics) instument to play, go to a show....

And get back to me slug.

  • Good for you, you have a nice day now.
