  • Hey great upload! Could you tell me where the version of Private Universe (5.30) is from? Would love to hear it all....cheers!

  • @drdmac You will find this version on the CD "Afterglow"; it is the acoustic version recorded at the same time as the one found on "Together Alone"

  • @AndreasSimon great! thanks for the info and upload!

  • thank you for sharing this for us Finn minions....and managed to unearth two finn gems I never heard before.. excellent

  • Yes well, THAT (deep relaxation)'s easy Neil, when you live in paradise. Which, absolutely, you do.

  • That version of Last One Standing at the beginning literally made the hair on my arms stand on end. Thanks for posting this - so cool to get a glimpse into the mind of a songwriting genius.

  • Thanks for posting. Neil is one of the greats over the past 20 years and it's been a pleasure to follow his great career. So many great songwriters came from the "2nd British Invasion" like the Finns, Elvis C. Tilbrook, Partridge, Sting. Many of Neil's songs are still being discovered, I hope, as they are as good as it gets.

  • neil is the real deal,a reputation built on his songs..not pretention

  • Thanks for posting this, I really enjoyed watching it.

  • ROFL 5:01 - 5:04-Hilarious!

  • merci for part 1 and 2 of AGTIAISS. only just found it on YT.got anything else similar?

  • I am so glad for songwriters like these most talented Finns :-)

  • Other than the Great Louis Armstrong, Neil Finn is my favorite singer.

  • He smokes!! Nobody´s perfect, not even Neil Finn!!!, although he´s soooo close to perfection ;-)

  • haha it's funny so many of the greatest singers have smoked, I'd love to know what difference it would have made if he never did.

  • such a nice guy

  • Thank you so much for posting this. What a talented man- what a talented family! Neil rarely gets the recognition he deserves as one of the best songwriters of all time. Here in the US most people don't even know who he is and they think that Crowded House was a "one hit wonder". So sad. They don't know what they're missing.

  • Right on there! i agree with you 100%

  • Tim and Neil have given me a gift I can never repay.

  • What I great comment! and well put!

  • I'm brokenhearted now, cuz Neil's been my favorite artist since ca. 1980, & I just saw the filthy cig (7:14-). The textural quality of his voice is so unique, I can't believe he would ever smoke!? A few yrs. have passed since this interview. I hope to God he quit.

  • What's wrong with that? It's his prerogative to do so. Yeah I agree it stinks, but I still think he's the best songwriter ever.

  • Neil's mother Mary once said something like this to him: "You'll always be alright, because a good tune is always in short supply."

RIP Mary Finn. What a gift she gave us with her sons.

  • That's a wonderful insight, thankyou.

  • really great! Thanks.

  • "Time On Earth" is the best CD of 2007. You know life is good...because Crowded House is back. If only Paul was with them...

  • Without a doubt.

  • fantastic this is just BRILLIANT

  • what a rare, beautiful talent. hearing a simple piano version of "message to my girl", nearly broke my heart. oye, when the cigarette made it's appearance, though, my immediate reaction: "what the EFFE! someone knock that thing out of his hand NOW before he ruins that sublime voice!!" oof.

  • I just loved this video, part 1 & 2 - thank you so much for sharing!!!

  • Adrea,

They've both written equally great songs. Neil's had more hits but it doesn't detract from the fact that they're both brilliant song writers. But when they collaborate they do occasionally transcend their individual talent.

  • Neil's great, seen him and Tim many a time.

Favourite would have to be seeing them at Splendour in the Grass a couple of years ago. It really cemented his and Tim's credability as song writers - here were thousands people who were still very young when the songs were released, yet still sang along to several hits word perfect.

Close second would be the Split Enz tour last year, madness.

  • Why don't you just enjoy Neils music...period.

  • Wow I didn't know Neil Finn still smoked?

  • Excellent !!!

  • I've seen Neil live many times, and every time I come away with at least one moment where I had chills running up and down my spine. His music, his lyrics, and his voice get under your skin and into your cells. He is totally amazing.

  • There have been three sets of songwriting genuises in history, Lennon/McCartney, Tilbrook/Difford and Finn/Finn

  • Not to mention Bacharach/David and Rogers/Hart...

  • Not to mention Simon/Garfunkel

  • Very fine music, but Paul Simon wrote their stuff exclusively...

  • How do you mean? Dont all the rest write their stuff exclusively aswell?

  • All right, let me rephrase: Paul Simon wrote all Simon & Garfunkel songs alone (save one), so this duo can hardly be counted as a "set of songwriting geniuses" (see above). Agreed?

  • Ohk, i got ya now. Agreed.

  • @AndreasSimon This is great, been reading a book on the Finn bros which makes them come across a little unappealing - this reminds me of the humour of Neill Finn. Thanks for uploading.

  • Great tribute to the greatest songwriter of our time.

  • Having seen Neil many times from the down in front of the stage (you have to get there early, but worth it), this reminds me of past shows and good times.

  • That was wonderful. Neil Finn is truly a great songwriter and seemingly down to earth. Thanks!

  • That was amazing. I have loved this man and his music since 1982. Such a beautiful soul. Thanks for putting it up.

  • Merci!

  • This is fantastic!

  • Simply beautiful! Thanks!!

  • Thank you thank you thank you. Awesome piece of film!
