  • good beat but bad snare sound

  • Comment removed

  • gonzalo suarez! =D

  • The one hand thing with not all the eighth notes played sounds cool

  • You need a new snare dude

  • easy as shit.....

  • I remember this and a few other videos of yours when I started playing drums 3 years ago. Its cool to see you again.

  • I get that hes trying to teach early beginner the absolute basics. But it seems to me that he is only a beginner himself. All you beginners out their should probably take lessons from an expert, not a beginner. I'd suggest freedrumlesson, or ExpertVillage.

  • @HUdrummer ---> expertvillage? are you trying to kill the future of drummers?

  • Nice beat imma learn that <3 :D

  • Isn't he the lawyer from Scrubs?

  • yeh i like this guy he's got funky beats! hes helped me out with my band and now were goin places! :) THNAKYOU!

  • dude.. get the other hand working..

a really good and funky beat..

  • awesome!!! this is very good,!!! great teacher!!! thanks for sharing this!! Lot!!!

  • I actually like the sound of this kit. Has a little tone to it atleast. Stupid overprocesed drums sound like nothing but attack. I want tone.

  • thank you for your videos!

  • hes got hair!!!!

  • you remind me of chester from linkin park

  • Your teaching is not too bad bro. Keep it up, but lolz get some new heads man.

  • lol that snare is not normal...tune...

  • Good Work Keep it up.

  • Good Work Keep it up.

  • thats a very Korn sounding beat

  • @cars2024 I may be wrong but, Korn is Funk-Metal/Nu Metal. So that's why!

  • who gives a monkeys what these clowns think....if you are so much better then why don't you throw out some lesson? anyways thanks man you help out alot....keep it up....haha my set sounds like shit too

  • Comment removed

  • you LEGEND. you have no idea how much of a help you are (: p.s. GO ENGLAND!

  • I love how you simplfy this for us! and taking the time to do this for us. I have been playing for quite a few years off and on. but still need to work on my technique. drumming takes time and we appreciate it. THANK A LOT ELLASKINS. I had a hard time not knowing to keep my thumbs pointed up while playing instead of facing each other.. helped me out a ton!

  • dude dats freakin common durin festivals in india

search fr nashil dhol on youtube

  • @PGXtreme12 NASHIK DHOL*

  • lol NICE TUTORIAL!

and u have a clean place too! :p

lol peace, love, music and respect

  • Time for a new snare..

  • I love this :D thankyou :D

  • uh... anyone who thinks he sucks should pay more attention. I believe this guy is right handed and yet he's playing tight with only his left. That points to being ambidextrous which takes lots of practice. try it.

  • u suck!!!

  • you are a very talented drummer i learned very fast on how to play that beat

  • The only funky thing I see is that snare head of yours man.

  • HE'S THE ENGLISH NALTS!

  • Your the kind of guy who really helps people. You simplify it for people instead of talking in notes and all of the worlds that new drummers wont understand.

  • Accent? it's called a fucking dotted note...

  • @SoundOfSorrowSOS , excuse me... even though you might be right with that... i have seen your drumming videos lately... and... even though im not a real drummer yet i can easily say that your drummin SUCKS. But thanks to "ellaskins" you now can practice and enjoy for free to get better.

  • @axel1973w Lol did i attack you? NO! i didn't say anything that was offensive i was just stating a fact... Dude you got to take a chill pill, Dont wet your self every single time when someone corrects you.

  • @SoundOfSorrowSOS , yep. i just stated a fact too. your drummin sucks! but hey.. its ok. teach the teacher... We do understand you.... have a nice day ;)

  • @axel1973w Go get our nappy change you cry baby. Enjoy being blocked aswell, Oh and sorry to hear your birth certificate is an apology letter from the condom factory. Bye :D

  • @SoundOfSorrowSOS I just have to say, that was an amazing insult. Haha

  • @Cheesenipp6 I know ain't it lol. :D

  • im keeping my drum set because of this vid

  • that is cool you should add something else

  • dude, your WAAAY better than expert villiage

  • i would open the high hat on four

  • veryy awesome

  • FUNKY GROOOOOVE

    yes yes yes

  • I hate it how people are so against this man. All he's doing is teaching, if you don't like it then don't watch it.

I can't read music, nor am I decent at it.

I played drums at school for a laugh, I got into it. I got my drum kit the other day. These videos are REALLY helpfull for a new player. If you hear 'Accent' and 'sixteenth notes' in tutorials you really don't know what they're on about.

He breaks it down for EVERYBODY to be able to play.

    KEEP THE GOOD WORK UP.

  • @MetalPoster You have a good point, but sometimes you end up learning something that is actually wrong. Most of what this guy is doing is OK, but the fundamentals are the most important part of learning. If you don't understand technical terms like "Accent" or "sixteenth notes", just like anything else on youtube, look it up.

  • @MetalPoster i started playing because rock band and then i thought they were fun as hell and now im playing drums everday practicing and looking up beat excersizes

  • please keep up these vids your helping me and alot of other people out, and this drum beat is so sick !

  • At 0:34 - "Okay, what we've got, we've got an accent..." Well, yes, we noticed that you have. :)

  • that was... nooot funky at all

  • in playing drums.. do i need to tune it like guitar? i want to learn to play drums ^_^

  • i played that drum beat when i first started it just came out of nowhere! what a coincidence

  • @TheFunnyguy383 lol well most beats are intercoordinating just speed differences beat control, and style. Wheter it be funky, fast metal tempo, rock, country, rap Whatever.

  • awrite fowks! ur accent is amazing xD

  • i just learned from your video. It works!

  • well.. you dont have to explain THAT much.. people are not retarded you know ...

  • already know it

  • at the start sounds like crazy prog grade 6 song

  • i already know this beat hahaha

  • Squeaky bass pedal ; )

Still, not as bad as a ludwig speed king...

  • @lordieuan777

I bought a speed king in 1989, it was made in the 1960s...and I never once oiled it. It sounds like a mouse being choked to death :)

  • @PositivelyBored Only a mouse? I think you got lucky :)

  • sabian is better :) :)

  • The Reverb with the kick sounds nice.

  • invest in a tripod dude.

  • this is a awsome beat and if any of you guys reconize this beat from trailer park boys when jrock wants to get into the club he plays that beat on the door and on his chest.:)

  • @flyzilla15 lmao yeah

  • thank you

  • he is kinda a freekazoid

  • You should put the camera on a tripod by your set and you rock

  • Nice one mate - watched you as DJ tutor and learnt loads. Came across this so downloaded PC Drum machine for the wii rockband drums just for a crack - had a good bash about and got a rhythym going. Might even get meself some old drums now.

Ignore all the neg comments - you can obviously play - you might not be cozy Powell but hey, I'm no Uma Thurman!!

Keep up all the good work with DJ Tutor and Drum tutor mate - ignore the stupid comments and crack on. Might be someones inspiration

    John

  • u should have done at the end like 2 base drums...and a fill to roll it up...i think ill video response u lol..XD

  • 0:12 That's what she said.

  • eh the first thing i learned when i started playing was the parididdles lol i loves me some rudiments XD

  • wouldnt of said that was funky?

  • retard set the cammera down

  • pre good, thats 1 of the beats i started of with when i started playing drums

  • nice thx,but clean up your room dude.

  • not bad, but dam it, doesn't take a genious to think of putting the camera on a table, or even on the floor?

  • Thats the point,Its Called point of view

U can see whats going on better if it was on the floor the pov would be shit

  • hhaha

  • thanks dude really helpfull

  • cool, thanks man

  • good stuff. thank you.

  • thanks man that helps u improved my drumming skills

  • You should show your "funky beat" to a real drummer because he would be impressed at how retarded your are.

  • You should say that comment to his face and then see how funny you are

  • thank you! ;)

  • damn, i thought i was gonna actually hear a funky beat, kinda dissapointed.

  • get a friggin camera stand. wtf.

  • haha i like how the description says... nothing in this tutorial is provided as legal advice haha

  • no offence bro but your snare is decaying

  • this isnt a "funky" beat. this is very rock-esqu.

your tutorial is very sub-standard, your knowledge about rhythmic theory is almost funny.

"we've got an ACCENT, which is basically.... we're hitting the bass drum in between where we would normally hit a bass drum in a bar"

    WTF does that mean?!?!

i hope you aren't making any fucking money out of this shit.

  • a bar....a measure...where it would be played on a basic 4/4 beat... maybe your knowloedge needs work

  • This guy doesn't really seem very good at drums lol. Drumming sort of came naturally to me at a very young age, so watching this video is like spanking a baby with a chainsaw.

  • should we applaud for you now?

  • think you mebbe need another snare beat at the end of that to make it sound cooler

  • ur pretty awesome

  • yu need a new kit man

  • your gay dawg

  • LOL ! Right ear =)

  • HI im also a drummer too. tht beats got the groove. It seems like your snare coat head is about to crack, but how do u have tht nice sound for your snare? ive been trying to get tht sound for my snare

  • First, make sure that the snare (the metal weave on the resonator head) is fairly tight. If it is cranked all the way and is still rattly, you need to unscrew the mechanism holding the snare in place and tighten its strings.

If you are satisfied with your snare tightness, your next move would be to fully loosen all lugs and really crank them down tightly (but proportionally!). This will give you that nice, pinging, cracking sound. You can dampen the head if you want to get rid of the ping.

  • you can get it out of a remo ambassador gotta tune it high or you can get it out of a evens reverse dot snare head but its gotta get tuned high or use a smaller snare im using a 12 x5 with evans reverse dot its tuned a little hire than his

  • That's not an accent. Accents are notes of higher volume than the standard volume of a measure. That's simply a 16th note placed at the 'e' of two (that is, 1 & 2 e & 3 & 4 &).

  • i thought 16th notes were 1 & a

  • Well, that's playing an eighth note followed by a sixteenth and an undefined note, presumably another sixteenth. A bar of constant 16ths reads "1-e-&-a-2-e-&-a-3-e-&-a-4-e-&-a". So, if it is easier to understand, his beat could also be notated like so (with notes in parentheses unplayed): "1(e)&(a)2-e-&(a)3(e)&(a)4(e)&(a)". However, this is far less standard and is in my opinion more confusing; it can be helpful to count every sixteenth note when beginning, rather than only the played notes.

  • So, what you said isn't inaccurate, it's just only part of the story :) The 16th after the '&' is 'a' (pronounced 'ah' rather than 'ae'), while the one before the '&' is 'e' (pronounced 'ee' rather than 'eh').

In this case, the bass drum falls on the 'e' of two rather than the 'a' of two. Hope this was helpful!

  • damn.. i just started drums and tries to do cool beats. thanks for this upload

  • thanks dude! cool beat

  • tune your drums man

  • ah you know how bad cameras can be.

  • OMG.....That is not funky.....it's actually a Rock Groove....

  • wow this is old

im glad you have gotten so popular!

    keep up the good work!

  • my HUGE problem in druming is that i cannot do a beat with my left foot, and at the same time do a diffrent beat with my left hand, and the same goes for my right

  • that's the reason drumming is hard, practice and experience will make your coordination and limb independence much better. keep practicing and have fun. there are plenty of exercises to fix this too.

  • Comment removed

  • can you please tell me what kind of exercises?, thank u

  • This is obvious, but the only thing that helps you build limb indepence is practice. Experiment and push your limits

  • that's takes practice man, thats not an easy thing to do

  • i think it's time for a new snare head

  • how many hits on the high hats are there in these beat

  • this is booty beat!

  • woww i actually REALLY like the drum sound from this video. it's a big sound... should definitely be in a song with this same beat :)

  • Some great bands to listen to would be Tower of Power or The Average White Band for funk. The drummers are amazing with how they approach funk

  • The ''accent'' is the off-beat.

  • cannot imagine how this guy learned playing drums...when i hear what hes saying i could play a totally other groove. Never heard anything bout sheet music? like 8s, 16s?

  • dude keep up the vids these r helping alot of ppl become better drummerz..... 5 stars *****

  • great lesson

  • get somebody else to film or put the camara on something whilst playing.

  • werry good for learning. Thank YOU!!!

  • you had hair!!!

  • sounds like godfleshs bass drum !

  • that snare head needs replacing

  • look how old this video is :)

  • just some duct-tape to kill the overtones would do

  • needs some ghost hits and fills, doubles etc. but it was a good basic little diddy to teach some people.

  • your drums sound like crap. dude fuckin replace them hahah

  • all you fucking retards can burn in hell for all i care you fucking fag bags! dude that is the best i have ever heard. it sounds amazing!!!

  • you need new heads!!

  • Don't mind wtf those haters said! You're so great, I've learned a lot :) thank you.

  • nice video i can play it now!

  • I like ur vids. Ur a good teacher. post more vids plz.

  • Your bassdrum sounds sick! If Godzilla was a bassdrum, it would sound something like that xD

  • Your vids are pretty sick.

Thanks for help and keep em up.

    Peace

  • GUYS SHUT UP! he is taking his time to teach a couple of people and also a lot of people r just starting and the might "SUCK" and they want to learn something really easy and this is perfect so why dont u guys shut the hell up and give him credit for doing this! or just dont leave a comment at all. and also if u want to give him crap just send me the crap in messages!!!! but dude u r an awesome drummer and prolly better then some of these people! keep making vids cuz im just starting to play!

  • Why so many ppl make the BAD words?

  • lol duct tape

  • your drum set suxs

  • lol u can do lots with a crappy drum set, search Brain Buys a Crappy Drum Set it's hilarious.

  • The drummer makes the drums sound good, the drums don't make the drummer good.

  • Yeah, Brain's sick.

  • what got seven arms and is a total load of shit?

you got it, it's def leppard.

  • If you needed a lesson to learn this beat, please quit drumming immediately.

  • I like that comment. That's sort of a natural beat to do. It's not close to being funky either. How does this guy get 96,000 views. I'm confused.

  • But it is a funk groove. One of the simplest grooves to play yes. It's all about how you make that simple groove feel is where the hard part is. Just because you can play it doesn't mean that you're making it funky.

  • this is so easy..

  • That's not an accent you idiot. Stop teaching people wrong things...An accent is a change of dynamics- like a ghost note for example. It's good that you're teaching drums but at least get it right...

  • well what ive been told a accent is when you hit it just a tad harder or some time you 'throw' the stick but thats just my teacher

  • thnx help me loads!!

  • thanx dude. this really helped. it was always hard for me to hit the bass drum on the an between 1 and 2. if that makes any sense. anyway it helped. :)

  • Thanks ^.^

  • that is NOT what an accent is

an accent is just a harder strike/stroke/hit

the third bass stroke was on an upbeat, i think thats what you meant, but got false information somewhere along the way

  • amen

  • youre a great "teacher"!Keep it up!
