My son has a heart murmur an it scared the crap outta me!! But he is 11yrs old nowim sure your baby boy is fine I like the fact that u ask slot of questions because with my son 11yrs ago it was what ever the doctors say they felt they could never be wrong so good luck
im sending my prayers your way for you and your baby boy. Im sure you will have a healthy happy baby in no time at all. your half way there! congrats!
Congrats on your healthy little boy! I wouldn't worry about the issue they found. It still needs to be confirmed, has a huge chance of resolving itself in most cases, sounds like it isn't rare, you can still go with your homebirth, nothing is necessary to be done, etc. I'm sure he's fine. I have an actual heart murmur and I'm fine...yet, I'd worry more about that than this. Prayers your way though...I undertand how it feels that something may not be quite right with your baby.
I'm use to murmurs, my family has them, every male, and I had a pregnancy induced one w/ my daughter that resolved it's self. My Dad's is mild, and one of brothers spent the first 5 years in the hospital because of his, huge hole, like a bubble kid. So I'm use to them, but not this, it's a whole new area.
I have a heart murmur. I was supposed to see a specialists once a year for it but my mother never took me because it was 'too far away'. Imagine that.
It was supposed to have resolved itself but it never has.
Anyway, I just thought it was funny how you were like, "I'm confused, what is it again?" and the nurse goes, "It's a jibberjabbermajig," like you're going to understand it any better if she says the exact same thing twice. Hahaha.
hi Lucy, i've been watching your vids for a few weeks now and thought i'd let you know i'm due on the 21st of May with a baby boy too so we're pretty close!
Godd luck with your pregnancy, you're in my thoughts alot, especially after seeing this video. I really wish i'd recorded everything with my pregnancies so i could look back on them because i also have a three year old daughter so would have been great to compair both pregnancies.
From what she was saying it sounds like its extremely common and you dont need to worry at all... Of course, as a mother you probably will- we all would!!! But thankfully you dont have anything like Congenital CMV which my son was born with- NO ONE deserves to go thru what our son and us did... We're just lucky our son turned out to b the fighter he is cuz they never expected him to live.
i saw that you didn't know what a nuchal fold was, so i looked up the medical definition for you. I knew that nuchal meant neck that might have been where the other person got that at.
1. ultrasonographic measurement of skin thickness on the back of the fetal neck; measured from 1522 weeks. Increased thickness indicates increased fetal risk for aneuploidy and some nonchromosomal disorders.
Yeah I didn't know at first. I had to ask my midwife & the sonotech we had to get a clarification on it. I asked my midwife if they had checked everything else, she said yes the nuchal folds. I didn't know though if it was something all babies had or only had when there was a problem. Newho I found out they all have it and it disappears, the importance of checking them though is their size, u want it to be under 5 mm. Mine said his were no where near that. Thank God.
Doesn't the neck thing mean because DS children basically their neck is thicker, wider, and doesn't look like they have a lot of neck? Like they have a neck, but it's weird. I don't know i am not an expert, lol, but praying it goes away even tho it's not harmful, it's always bothersome! I think your belly is "perfect pregnancy belly"! Too cute, mine was all stretch marked up! LOL Well, prayers for you and your baby, hopefully it will go away!
I know it's something they always check, part of the routine ob 20 week scan. Our son's neck is fine, so I am not sure? U might want to ask someone who's been through it? He has a spot on his heart not on his neck.
It will be alright Lucy. The fact they said you can still go ahead with your waterbirth at home etc is a reassurance that everything is fine. Try not to worry yourself!
I'm sure he'll be fine, Lucy. Just don't worry about it. Prayers are the most powerful thing you have, so just rely on that, and not on what the stats tell you about increased chances of such and such a thing. You're looking fab and you've barely gained any weight - I'm starting to feel like a whale! (19 weeks)
Don't worry Lucy, everything will be fine, we've grown to love you, and your family, like our youtube fam, and def our prayers will be w your son. Once again congrats on another beautiful baby, he'll be fine.
Your US tech sounded very educated, and knew what she was talking about. It's still never a good feeling to hear something is abnormal, But good to hear it will be nothing more and will hopefully go away.
your son is in my prayers, everything will be ok.. i just lost my son last week and it has been the hardest thing for me..he was my first child..and i would do anything to have him back..they think i had gbs and some other thing cause it caused him to pass and make me start to contract.
I cant imagine what it must feel like to be told there's something not "totally" normal in your baby! Im a vet tech and we find things like this all the time and tell owners about and they come back freakin out over info they got online or from the neighbor. Stick with your midwife and tech, stay positive and everything will turn out amazing!
So all it is a teeny chance of being down syndrome, or being just nothing. Nothing to worry about. Were there any other markers for downs? Did they do the Nuchal Fold measurement?
From what I understand there are 15 soft markers for DS. We were checked for all. Everything was normal, the nuchal folds were under 5 mm (dunno what they were exactly though?) Just was told it was normal. I actually had to call the midwife and the sonotech back today to make sure just b/c she never mentioned it during the video and I couldn't remember.
What had freaked me out what when she said heart. Heat murmurs run in the males in my family. Every male has them. So of course I thought that was going to be the issue and that I was okay with, I know about them. I had a pregnancy induced one w/ my daughter, and she had one too that just disappeared. But when she said it was something else, it freaked me out. I cried all night last night. Until this mornings convos I had w/ them, I feel MUCH MUCH MUCH BETTER!
Oh you poor little thing!! I dont even know why they tell you unless they know for sure it points to something serious! Personally, I would hate that! Between the preg hormones and my natural tendency to wonder and worry and think the worst, I'd be a complete wreak over basically nothing, or something so trivial. I wouldnt want to know unless they KNEW something was wrong. But I guess You didnt really even have a choice. Pregnancy is scary enough in it's self with out more things added to it.
Amino is not reccomended past a certain pregnancy week which we have already passed. There are no known chromosome abnormalities.
Thank goodness it won't affect his health. Hopefully it will resolve itself. What was she saying about the thickness on his neck ? My prayers are with ya'll !

It's never easy to hear that anything could be wrong with our babies! I'm glad that it is an isolated incident and that the ultrasound tech says it's nothing to worry about yet, but I can't imagine that it makes it much easier to take. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
Please don't mind the spelling I'm doing this on my 3g i phone an it messes me up alot.... LOL so once again good luck an I will say a prayer for u
