If you keep your food in a refrigerator, your clothes in closet, if you have a bed to sleep in and a roof over your - head you are reacher than 75%of the entire world population...Appreciate what you have!
I had to watch "If the World was a Village of 100 people" for my math class so we can discuss ratios. Then this video caught my eye. I'm glad I watched this. It's very touching and makes you think about what you have in your life instead of the stuff you don't.
I saw this video at Washington Leadership Conference (WLC) and was thoroughly shocked at the extent of our world's problems. If you saw two groups of people and one was technologically advanced, but left 50% of it's members behind as a result, and the other was primitive, but together, which would you deem more successful? After they showed us this they split us up into groups to eat like the world does. The largest ate rice, in small amounts, and the smallest ate multi-course meals.
@Bedu79 Humans are naturally not meant to deal with large numbers. It's not in our instinct. If someone said 5% of 6 billion, you'd be a little confused at first. The put it into an easier prespective. Imagine if I told you to visualize 3 ducks. You can do that, easy. Now visualize 594032 Ducks... Have fun. It works in the exact same way.
it is really quite a sad video because when you think about almosr everything ee have we take for granted not just our clothes and our house and our food but they saisd if you have a bank account you are one of the thirty wealthy people in the world i never even thouyght about that
This movie shows that those who live in more capitalistic countries have a better standard of living vs. those who live in more socialist to statist governments. People tend to look at the outcome and say that is unfair without asking why did one culture end up successful and the other end up in poverty. We should get the cultures who are failing to emulate those who are successful. Study Hong Kong over the last 50 years to see what happens when the poor are free to pursue their self interest.
Not only is this video sad, but the ignorant comments on it as well. It is upsetting to see how many people don't understand or don't care for the concept of this video. I feel bad for those of you who don't gain anything from this information.
Are you serious? The one thing I think I take for granted the most is basic sanitation. I live in a family of five and we fill 3-4 trash bags per week. If we didn't have a garbage service, we'd be lost. This video is telling us that almost half of the world doesn't have that basic sanitation. Not to mention the statistic about the number of people living on less than $2 a day. This video is trying to open our eyes to something most of us would rather ignore.
But anyway, if you don't believe me, just research what happened in the US in the 1970's with Title IX. The average number of children per household dropped significantly in the 70's and this was only marginally due to the availability of birth control. In developing countries, literacy and basic math skills give women a significant advantage in the market and enable them to earn enough income to not require large families. Research Grameen Banks. Don't just argue, investigate and substantiate.
Economics doesn't require quotation marks, you obviously have no comprehension of what supply-side economics involves, and that statement in itself is completely contradictory; "voodoo economics" is a conservative approach that ultimately cuts social programs, not supports them. In rural and agricultural sectors of China where the extra family labor is needed for income, restrictions to family size are typically ignored. I have my MA in "the real world", thankfully not from your university.
I have studied 'Economics' - and been through the school of "Hard Knocks"....I am NOT buying your progressive, liberal argument - which is basically *Voodoo* economics!! Also run your theory by the Chinese and see what THEIR answer will be...That's why they (Chinese) limit families to 1 or 2 children - For the exact same reasons!!! Welcome to the REAL world!!!
I'm not sure of the statistics because i have seen different figures on other sites but it makes me angry and a bit guilty that i have so much and the rest of the world doesn't.
@gombeyone I take it you have never studied economics. Families in developing countries have more children to increase their household income. More children = more workers = more money; take away the kids and you take away their livelihood. It has been shown over and over that smaller family sizes are a result of higher levels of education. It's a trend even in the US. The best policies that can be implemented are ones that support female education, not ones that attempt to control population.
...WOW =) This is an amazing video & it really has made me think about how much we take this beautiful world of ours for granted. Thanks so much =) I watched this video because at school we're asked to do a poster advertising the world with only 100 people =) x
guys ive been to a 3rd world country. costa rica. its coolbut 90% of the people are poor and don't have a roof above ther head. 5% of them do have a roof aboe their head, but their house is torn apart, and is damaged. There are some cool things down there but it is very sad. u will feel rich if u go there.
this video can and should be shown in any subject area class. there is no reason why the youth in classrooms today should not be provided the opportunity to begin to think critically about these issues so that they might become the generation united to change this mad world. powerful learning tool--plus the video contains a number of grammatical errors that teachers can ask students to identify.
It's amazing that shrinking the world can prove just how far apart cultures are. We see things like bank accounts, education, computers as the norm... we assume these are universal standards, and we don't see the big picture.
Most of the world isn't as fortunate as we are. There is so much in our lives that we take for granted... that we consider our rights to have, but that is not the case. We are immensely blessed and should never hesitate to share these blessings with the rest of the world.
This video is absolutely stunning and amazing. I have a supportive family and friends to help me through. I have the ability to access information, music, art, create, go to school, and live comfortably. What more can I ask for? Happiness... emotions; the human experience leaves me completely in awe with the notion that I even exist in this universe. I'm truly thankful for even being able to type this comment right now along with the rest of you. Peace and love
@linhandna My teacher showed me this as well.... But my friend laughed at the 2nd picture because his mouth was like... weird... After seeing this a fourth time, I laughed soooooo hard... :P

@thisisagreatacct I just came home from the US after a two month trip there, let me tell you, the US _is_ a third world country compared to Scandinavia where i live! So much poverty, so many homeless people, so many people that can't afford an education or even worse - health treatment!
I was shocked by this experience - the US truly is a horrible place, I thought I lived in a capitalistic country, man was I wrong! Thank god (as you would say, I'm an atheist) for Scandinavia and socialism!!
@thisisagreatacct um its the government of those 3rd world countries that make them what they are. quit actin like an angel saying how shitty americans are. its not our fault we were born in a country that is the most resourcefully rich one in the world and allows freedom.
@heathman8282 No it's not our fault for being born into America, but because we are, we are obligated to help those who are not in America, because it's not their fault that they were born there either.
Poverty is not a mortgage on the labor of others—misfortune is not a mortgage on achievement—failure is not a mortgage on success—suffering is not a claim check, and its relief is not the goal of existence—man is not a sacrificial animal on anyone’s altar nor for anyone’s cause—life is not one huge hospital.
We would like to play this video at an FFA Banquet. The hall doesn't have access to internet. How can we download or get this video? We saw this at the California State FFA Convention. Thanks
There's a really simple way to avoid feeling bad when you see videos like this one. Donate a small amount every month to help people who need education and food in developing countries. 10 euros per month wont hurt you at all, but it will help save a whole families life somewhere else...
@McNubcake, your discust, you think its funny that people are dieing of basic things they need, like food, water, shelter, etc. Well what happened if you were on an island for with no food, shelter, clean water, etc. I bet you'll beg to live in better lives in a developed country....

HAH! The pictures they used made me laugh so hard! LOL, im literally ROFLing right now. The best and funniest part was 2:10 - 2:16 . The look on that guys face, it cracks me up every time.
Part of the reason we laugh is because people like you come in and take offence but can't manage to speel sickos, your, or you. Honestly, if you take so much offence to that, at least make a spell check.
awesome video. as one person with no political power we cant really do anythin. just appreciate what u have and more importantly show respect for ure fellow humans no matter how different they are from you.
I disagree with the first half of your comment. You always have power because you have the ABILITY to choose. History has dictated that you do great things and political power will follow- look at Mother Teressa or Gandi.
This should just make us feel GUILTIER for not doing more...yet we sit in our computers, thinking of a clever comment to post on youtube or twitter. Let's do something, this video should inspire GOOD WILL from all of us.

we'll all just die some day anyway. And the funny thing is, in 400 years, we'll all be dead and no one will remember us. So don't waste time doing stuff for other people, and just enjoy life for yourself.
seriously. seriously. your life affects others everyday. No matter what you do. you need to live in complete isolation; no contact with people whatsoever. so you don't accidentally touch their lives. The Only way you will ever be able to not "waste time doing stuff for other people" is to leave society. So go, unless you need people as much as they need you.
this opened my eyes, it makes me feel bad that really, im an going NOWHERE where these people never actually even started to go anywhere in the firstplace.. it breaks my heart.
This is why I get sickened at the idea that there are charities for Americans. Yes, it's sad that Americans are disabled. But honestly, we need to be giving our money and efforts to people in other countries of the world. Our disabled people have wheelchairs, people to care for them, incredible hospitals... Some countries have none of that.
The majority lives on less than $1 a day is ABSOLUTELY TRUE.
I've travelled through most parts of Asia and it's been a huge eye opener for me. By then I had came to realize that all of my own countrymen were all very lucky to be here.
Sadly, almost all of them didn't even realize just how difficult it is to live outside the comfort zone of their own territory.
Just think of it, most parts of Asia considered KFC as a luxury food. The McDonald's basic meal is worth a week of their food.
It is impossible not to mention computer and internet. Nowadays in the so called modern culture who do not know how to use a computer is considered illiterate the same like a person who was not able to read and write a few years ago . This clip shows that we just gave such a big importance to something that only 3% have the access to.
and we have people in the U.S. that call 911 because McDonalds ran out of chicken nuggets. prosperity is great but never take what you have for granted, no matter how little it may be.
I love this video so much because it just gives the facts and has no major message other than appreciate your stuff. Personally I hope to see the international community start doing more to get rid of some of the more depressing statistics. I do have one question. When it says 61 Asians is it talking in the idea of Asians such as Chinese and Japanese or is it including Indians, Arabs, Persians, Turks, etc?
- BUT, to all of you woh think this is simply to be thankful for what you have, your 50% right. because the other half of the message is DO YOUR DAMN PART. if every single person of the well off 25% put change in a jar, it would go miles to changing the dirt floor and cold wind that the 75% feel everynight.
One of the saddest videos I've ever seen. It really does make you appreciate what you have. I still can't believe that 53% struggle to live on $2.00 per day. After seeing this video, I'm donating a bunch of money to foreign charities. Best of luck to them.

Dibuxxxx 2 years ago
I disagree with the first half of your comment. You always have power because you have the ABILITY to choose. History has dictated that you do great things and political power will follow- look at Mother Teressa or Gandi.

we'll all just die some day anyway. And the funny thing is, in 400 years, we'll all be dead and no one will remember us. So don't waste time doing stuff for other people, and just enjoy life for yourself.
McNubcake 1 year ago
seriously. seriously. your life affects others everyday. No matter what you do. you need to live in complete isolation; no contact with people whatsoever. so you don't accidentally touch their lives. The Only way you will ever be able to not "waste time doing stuff for other people" is to leave society. So go, unless you need people as much as they need you.

This is why I get sickened at the idea that there are charities for Americans. Yes, it's sad that Americans are disabled. But honestly, we need to be giving our money and efforts to people in other countries of the world. Our disabled people have wheelchairs, people to care for them, incredible hospitals... Some countries have none of that.
cardinalbaseballer5 2 years ago 2
thank you.
036265 2 years ago
I agree with you, i dont know why u had -4 . :)
but other countries leadrers are so arogant that they dont provide those things to disabled people. wich is very sad

I don't appreciate how they place the computer and the internet up there with food, clean water, and habitation...
laveritabella 2 years ago
It is impossible not to mention computer and internet. Nowadays in the so called modern culture who do not know how to use a computer is considered illiterate the same like a person who was not able to read and write a few years ago . This clip shows that we just gave such a big importance to something that only 3% have the access to.

I love this video so much because it just gives the facts and has no major message other than appreciate your stuff. Personally I hope to see the international community start doing more to get rid of some of the more depressing statistics. I do have one question. When it says 61 Asians is it talking in the idea of Asians such as Chinese and Japanese or is it including Indians, Arabs, Persians, Turks, etc?
daedman13 2 years ago 2
asians asing everyone from asia which includes arabs chinese japanese iranian iraqi's afghans indians koreans philipines vietnam and bunch more
pingpong16 2 years ago
eye opening? i think so.
- BUT, to all of you woh think this is simply to be thankful for what you have, your 50% right. because the other half of the message is DO YOUR DAMN PART. if every single person of the well off 25% put change in a jar, it would go miles to changing the dirt floor and cold wind that the 75% feel everynight.
period

One of the saddest videos I've ever seen. It really does make you appreciate what you have. I still can't believe that 53% struggle to live on $2.00 per day. After seeing this video, I'm donating a bunch of money to foreign charities. Best of luck to them.
