haha ben kenney is definitely the better musician. dirk is still a sick bassist though, but as musicians they are on different levels. Ben play pick, fingers and is very competent at both. Can groove it up on the drums, shred on the guitar. Sing lead and do harmonies. Bass playing wise he is more creative with his use of effects, chorus and overdrive etc. Plus I dig his tone much more too, it cuts through really well. Plus his use of chords is really tasteful. Even when he wanks, hes tasteful

Dirk did cool stuff on science sure, but he isn't even close to Ben's skill level. Ben plays slap, finger style, and with a pick, and actually writes his own bass lines for incubus's music. Dirk didn't, which is not a secret as Mike has admitted in interviews that he wrote many of the bass lines as well as the guitar parts. Ben Kenney can play every instrument, and sing better than Dirk. He is just a far better musician, and comparing them is like comparing Jack White to Jimmy Page.

He is not really a guitarist, well he is but he played drums and bass before playing guitar, and plays alot other instruments than guitar. And I dont think he plays like a guitarist(only when playing guitar) I admire his bass style very much, and love his solo projects and guitar stuff too.

Ben Kenney is a sick fucking musician and just to give my opinion in a non bashing way I will say that I think hes more of a guitarist that also plays bass. I don't see him ass a bass player only because hes plays bass as if its was a guitar in my opinion. Well rounded though, dirk fit better for incubus, espefially in its earlier days and im more of a dirk fan but Ben is still sick with his shit. Sings, drums, guitar and bass. Hes got skills and hes good at everyone of them.

if you go to most videos they have ben and dirk arguements too its hilarious how many people are arguing this, just shows how great the band really is even tho ill admit it here im a dirk fan, but i like ben as a musician hes a brilliant dude but as skill in the bass dirk is the better bassist, but ben is a better musician, dirk has the upper hand in bass skill, for instance ben doesnt even slap his bass, he using only one technique of playin bass

i dont think its a matter of ben "lacking skill" he just doesnt prefer to slap, he mentioned on his FB that its just not his style and he would feel fake trying to please all the dirk fans out there, but calling him a weaker bassist doesn't make sense either. slapping is like 1/10000000000000000000000 of being a bassist just like using double bass is like 1/100000000000000000 of beng a drummer. The fact that this guy (ben) gets free basses and gear from Lakland and Mesa tells me enough....
